You are all neighbors of eachother. You only have four rows of land, allowing you a total of 40 crops. You can rent out your land. You have to plant and plow, but you are on your FAMILY's farm, so you never have to buy thing to cook or whatnot. You can buy seeds, but there is no real currency, because I trust you to role play.
