Alright so, since everyone keeps making their own theory threads, I think it's time for an official one. Direct everyone here to blabber on about who is Amon... keep the theories all in one place... it's getting confusing seeing old threads being bumped up with older theories, and such.

So all theories and discussion on WHO you think Amon is... should just go here.

After Yakone, Aang realized that he needed to have a new protector that was not already a bender, someone normal, that would appreciate the power of energybending. His student was in secret, and would only be revealed later in life, when his secret student was ready.

After giving him the power to Energybend, Aang then put this student through very hard training against the elements, learning how to combat against all four, even all four at once, while Aang uses the Avatar state. Then... he trains against Katara while during the fool moon... to resist Bloodbending. So if another Yakone ever appeared, he could defeat him with this extreme training.

So Amon has only taken powers of criminals, power abusers, etc... people who are not selfless, I suppose. He seems to have hate for the Avatar, but I dunno anymore, I am still seeing this as some kind of test. I do not see it as being Zuko anymore, but I do see that his back story could have some truth. Maybe the Avatar saved him and trained him, like I said. But maybe the power he gained through the Equalists cause his morals to be twisted... like the whole "some of the worse things, started as goods intentions" kind of thing... Amon has yet to cause harm to citizens that are "innocent", in such a way where they have not abused their bending. So he seems to have some good in him, I suppose... But going after the Avatar, Amon has had her in his grip multiple times in only 9 episodes so far, over maybe 2-3 weeks in the story. (Yeah, It seriously hasn't been all that long. Most episodes carry from the previous, like, an hour, or a day later.) Him not pursuing her, either he is smart enough to wait for her, or, he is "letting" her get away... If my theory that Amon is a student/apprentice of Avatar Aang after the Yakone incident... that means he is either waiting for her to get all four elements, and learn the Avatar State, so he has a real challenge (like he said at Aang Memorial Island?)

Yeah... my theory is that...

I think your poll should've been realistic choices biggrin

Sooo, before today, I have thought Amon might be somebody we've never seen before. My theory is different from this thought, however, I pray to God that this theory is wrong, and my original thought is correct. However, if this theory proves true, I think it will still be one helluva twist to make u all waddafuq....

So my theory:

Amon is Aang. I know...cannot have two avatars blah blah blah. I pray this be true honestly...however, after todays episode, the flashback scene where Yakone did the whole mass bloodbending stuff, including on Aang got me thinking....Aang at first was stopped by it, but then he went all Avatar State and wtfpwned Yakone, practically resisting the bloodbending with the AS....

THEN we see Amon resist bloodbending against Tarlokk....That mixed with the fact that the only known person to be able to take a persons bending away is the avatar....It honestly fits.

While Aang, if alive, would be pretty old....from what I understand, people are known to live fairly long in the world of avatar(like Bumi in first series....like 113 or something and still kickin a**)

Sooo, if this is true, it leaves me with one serious question....Why would Aang be doing what he's doing if he is Amon?

Again, this is just theory, and I am seriously hoping its wrong...but am I wrong in that it would be a major wtf moment that might actually be kinda cool?

Stupid theory...no. Unlikely.....likely. Based it off what I saw in that one single episode. Just don't give me all that 'only one avatar blah blah blah...I'm aware of what people think.

I've got it!!

Amon is ozai, remember in book one TLA the fish ying and yang chose to live in the real world. Ozai's spirt must have chosen to do the same. When the turtle taught Aang to take people's bending he touched Aang in the same places Aang touched ozai, ozai leaned how to take away bending from Aang doing it to him.

Also when Korra connects with Aang and he is blood bent he is help less until the avatar state kicks in and he is no longer Aang but now the livening embodiment of all avatars past and blood bending no longer works on him because he is a spirt. The same thing happens to Amon when tarrlok  try's to blood bend him.

If what Amon said is true (doubt it) about having no face it is because Koh the face Steeler took ozai's face in the spirt world.

If what Amon said is true (doubt it) about having no face it is because Koh the face Steeler took ozai's face in the spirt world.

Face includes eyes, the faceless monkey Aang sees in the Spirit World has no eyes, mouth or nose... nothing at all. Amon has his eyes... and obviously has a mouth to talk with.

And there is a difference between the Spirits like Koh, the Avatar, and human spirits. Koh is one of the oldest, so he must be one of the most powerful. Tui and La are old as well, but become physical, but like the Avatar, still have a connection to the Spirit World. Avatar literally means "embodiment of a deity". Meaning that all the Avatars were "gods in human form". Probably why dying in the Avatar State is very very bad, because you are killing a GOD, in some ways. Also, the balance of the world would go all blarg. So I would say while the Avatar, and spirits like Koh, Tui and La are divine, human spirits are lesser, therefore Ozai would not be powerful enough to "resurrect" himself like the Avatar, who actually naturally does so to keep the world in balance.

^^^ Nephite, I was actually talking about that with a friend of mine..... And I think Ozai is Amon.

Think about it. Amon, er, Ozai, might have made up the whole thing about his parents being killed by fire benders. Aang took away his bending, and MAYBE, just MAYBE, if somebody gets their bending taken away, then they can take bending away also.

Ozai hates Aang, and he wants to take over the world. I think he'd be able to do that with or without bending.

"The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light."

The two times we have seen Aang take away someones bending we saw the flash of green light but when Amon does there is not.Maybe Amon is just an amazing Chi blocker that has found a way to block this specific Chakra.I'm thinking by the end of a series they will figure out a way to undo this...I'll be happy if they can just give Lin her bending back crying
Anyways that's just my opinion, what do you all think?

Saw this in another thread. I actually had this thought thismorning when going back through some of The Last Airbender. Then I log into Gaia and see this >.<

I think it's a solid theory...and honestly I think it's the most sensible one I've seen online so far.

Wouldn't Ozai be a tad bit old (if not dead) to be moving the way Amon can? sweatdrop I admit he would have had the motive and determination to try and do something like this though.

70 years since Ozai's defeat..... he would be about 130 years old... derp.

My theory that Amon was once an apprentice to Aang is the one of two ways he learned of energybending... OR... through Wan Shi Tong, the Owl Spirit. He knew many things, and knowing how to awaken the power of energybending I bet, is known to him. He is a very old spirit, I think the same as Koh. Now Koh hates the Avatar also... two very old and powerful spirits, that hate the Avatar... If they are ones who are supporting Amon... Korra is screwed.

Another reason why I think he was taught by Aang is because he hasn't killed anyone... he acts too much like a Monk... He does seem to take some people away, to prison, but that is about it.

But killing, nope, none... he just "cleanses" people of their bending. He is like an extremist monk...
