TODAY was supposed to be a happy day, a day of presents and cakes and ribbons. There was supposed to be big boxes wrapped in pretty paper, topped with beutiful bows and overflowing vases of roses. Today... today was Elizabeth's birthday. There weren't supposed to be tears... her mother wasn't supposed to be locked in her room, wailing like a small child.
...and Elizabeth wasn't supposed to be opening her presents by herself, huddled in a bed full of pillows and tissues.

They had found out yesterday.

Normally such a letter wouldn't surprise them... normally they would just blow it off, seeing as Elizabeth's father was more then capable of taking care of himself... until about two weeks ago when he'd been diagnosed with lung cancer. It was from smoking that tobacco in his pipe everyday... Elizabeth had begged him to stop so many times, watching him deteriorate before her very eyes. But.. but he wouldn't. He would just pat her head and tell her he'd be perfectly fine, there was nothing to worry about!
Apparently there was.

The man had come yesterday with the letter. He had been a funny man, very friendly when Elizabeth answered the door. His midde-aged face sported a large catepillar mustace that was turning white with age, and his eyes... they were a deep green unlike Elizabeth's light green eyes, and they seemed to twinkle with merriment and happiness. She didn't understand why such a kind, nice man had come to deliver such news... it wasn't until he handed her the letter that she knew what was happening. The man had left with a cheery goodbye, Elizabeth's father easily taking the letter from her. It was a call to war.

He'd been enlisted.

Her mother, Mrs. Cherry, had instantly locked herself in their large bedroom and started wailing. Mr. Cherry had gone grim-faced, telling Elizabeth to shut up... she had been begging and begging for him not to go. He was regardless of what she said... it was the end of the debate. She couldn't save her father from the war. He would die out there for sure, he was already weak, hardly able to walk without a cane.

It was a new day now, and her father would be leaving the following morning. Her birthday was ruined... her coming of age, her eighteenth.
It wasn't fair. It wasn't fair. Biting at her bottom lip she sniffled, pulling open a small box with her name written elegantly on a tag. It was from her father... a beautiful locket, silver, with her name enscribed on it.
Elizabeth Cherry.
She held it to her heart, the tears streaming down her face. It was late evening by now... it occured to her maybe she could save her father.

Hooking the necklace around her throat she pulled her hair into a ponytail, sneaking through the house. Her father had somehow gotten her mother to open the door... she could hear them sleeping soundly. Sneaking past the shut door she slipped into her father's den, eyes darting to the letter.
She stepped towards it, her fingers running across the smooth paper before she let the dress hugging her figure fall to the ground. It was time for her to do something for this family... she was going to save her father.

Grabbing his uniform from the spot it hung she quickly pulled it on, rolling the cuffs up above the boots while rolling the sleeves to her elbows. She grabbed a pair of scissors from the mantle, taking a deep breath...
She chopped her beautiful curls clean off, quickly stuffing the helmet on her now very light feeling head. Licking her lips she traded the letter for one of her combs; her father would know what had happened.

That's about the time she snuck out.

- - - the next day - - -

She arrived at the site earlier then she'd thought, though it was still packed. She avoided detection as she slunk through the crowds, heart racing and mind swimming.
How am I supposed to pull this off?!
She was scrawny compared to the other men... she even recognized some from school. They were young, most of them... maybe she wouldn't be noticed.
"HEY, SHRIMP!" Someone yelled, making Elizabeth flinch. She felt a strong hand slam down on her petite shoulder, whirling her around to face them.

"You're a little tiny to be in the army, eh?" The man was a tad older then her, handsome in a devilish way. She pulled free meekly, keeping her eyes firmly planted on the ground.
"Y-yes sir." She squeaked, trying to make her voice sound deeper then it actually was.
"Barely outta puberty, this one. Voice isn't even proper. Bah. It'll be a miracle if we win this war." The man trundled off then, leaving Elizabeth scared and alone.
I'm not going to make it.

Daelyn Greer always thought of himself as a simple man. He rose every morning, and like most readied himself for the day. He would leave every morning a quarter to eight to work down at his father's pub, and work his usual nine to five job, enjoy a pint with the old man in toast to his deceased mother, and scurry off to the mill to meet his soon to be father-in-law. Of course the man himself pushed for the two to get married over a bout of fish and chips last week, of course with a hefty amount of ale at that, and Daelyn in his drunken stupor agreed. He wasn't exactly opposed to the idea, but the problem was he had never even spoke more than two sentences with the girl before. He figured all in all that it would work out, and after much talk with his father over it, he was finally won over to the idea...afterall he wouldn't stay young forever, and the man owned the mill ensuring future generations a promise of wealth...at least that was his father's closing argument.

Finally arriving at the mill he met his future father-in-law with a smile. "Mr. Dent, as promised here I am to help you out," spoke the strapping young lad known as Daelyn Greer. "Oh come now boy...call me Arthur...after all we are soon to be related," replied the older gentlemen with a nudge. "Speaking of which, my daughter just so happened to swing by, and it's quite coincidental at that..." he said with a sly grin. Daelyn sighed within his mind and superimposed a smile. He was pretty sure this was no coincidence. "Oh...Mary's here, well perhaps she'd like to go for a walk," he said softly knowing Arthur was pressing for the two to spend more time together.

The rest of the day went uneventful. The walk was made in silence with few words spoken, but drew the approval of Mr.Dent nonetheless. They had nothing in common, and he swore he saw Mary sneaking from her house to rendezvous with another suitor...one no doubt her father didn't approve. He didn't get bothered by things like that though. As a matter of fact he was actually sort of relieved, but kept his discovery to himself. He had later left the mill after helping around a bit returning to pub for a few pints.

"Oh...Daelyn...have a seat son...I have a bit of news for you," replied his father from the empty pub as Daelyn entered. That was the day he got the news. He was to report 0800 for training and then off to war. There was no shock on Daelyn's part, and earnestly his father seemed more bothered about it then he was. Days after the news Mary began to speak more to Daelyn as the days till he was to report began to wind down. She even promised to write him at least once every two days, which was fine. She had become kinder to him in those days and he only figured that her mysterious suitor had moved on. Either way he followed suite and accepted her offer and slight peck upon the cheek.

A couple of days later he found himself on train headed for the training site. With little more than an old photo of his mother, and a sealed locket with her picture in it, a keepsake after she died, he ventured forth.

The train arrived at the station with little more than an hour to spare. He could see the training camp a few yards off in the distance and became slightly nervous. Growing up in a small town he didn't really recognize anyone, so it was a relief to him to see a young timid soldier being picked on for being too young, small, and well dainty. He thought nothing of it as he fell in suite behind the young soldier.

"Your first day here too?" he asked softly while standing in line waiting to report to the man at the table. He assumed they'd be given their gear from there and assigned tents. Oh joy...

ELIZABETH was so not blending in. Her short stature, tiny body and otherwise wimpy demeanor seemed to make her a target for the other men... some of which were much bigger then her, and others only a tad. She blushed and tried to get out of the center of attention... but apparently blushing was even worse than being tiny.
"Oy, we got a shy one, Timmy!" A man who was called Henry yelled, soon joined by this so called Timmy.
"Mighty pretty for a lad, aye?" Timmy teased, knocking the side of Elizabeth's helmet lightly with his fist and making her jump.
"What's your name, solider?" Henry asked, eyebrows raised.
"...er...D-David." She stammered, knowing full well that was her father's name and she had just stolen it.

Oh, I am in so much trouble.

"Gotta girlie voice, too. Betcha all the girls back home think you're the cutest." Timmy chuckled, becoming bored and trundling off. Henry soon followed, leaving Elizabeth... er, David... alone in the line. She was getting issued a gun and a tent.
Hopefully her own tent. If not there was going to be trouble.. how was she supposed to change? To her immense satisfaction she learned there was a seperate bathing area... at least that wasn't something she had to worry about, right?
Letting out a short puff of air she squeaked in surprise as someone moved up behind her, speaking softly... too softly.

She turned to find a rather tall fellow standing behind her. He had short brown hair and impressively green eyes (or so Karu tells me). He was handsome... but he was a man. And so was Elizabeth... or at least for awhile she was. Staring at him with her light, light green eyes she swallowed hard, nodding feebly. He was certaintly taller then her, and well built...
She must look like a twig compared to him.
"Y-yes. Name's... David Cherry..." She smiled weakly though it quickly dropped. She knew her face was too 'pretty' to be considered male... hopefully he'd just assume she was one of those males that all the girls loved because they were so adorable.

Hopefully..

Clearing her throat she felt the man in front of her step forward, so autmatically she did too. What she hadn't been expecting was for the man to step backwards, slamming right into her. thank goodness she was otherwise flat-chested or she would have been caught right then and there.
"PIPSQUEAK!" The man turned around, obviously annoyed. He looked like a veteran... a very angry veteran. He picked her up easily by the front of her collar and hauled Elizabeth up off the ground, her feet kicking in protest.
"P-put me down! I... I didn't... I didn't mean to!" Her voice was not as high-pitched as before, thank goodness, or she really would have been caught.

"Watch your back, pretty boy." The man growled before dropping Elizabeth, who landed roughly on her feet and stumbled into the man who had spoken to her earlier. She turned red in the face and muttered a quick apology, watching the scary man who'd threatened her trundle off.
Now I have enemies. Great.
"...what a great welcoming committee." She mumbled to herself, stepping up to the table. She was roughly handed a pack full of who-knew-what, dog tags (after she had shown them her father's papers and claimed she was David Cherry II), and then a well polished gun.
Oh God.

"You'll be in tent 052. That way." The man pointed to the right without looking up, and Elizabeth stammered a thank you before taking off in that direction. She hadn't gotten to say goodbye to that nice man... oh well, she'd probably see him again soon.
She had no idea how right she was.
Finding the tent marked 052 in white spray paint she slipped inside, unhappy with the situation. The beds were close, small, and looked awful to sleep on. There wasn't anywhere to use the bathroom either...
Oh! I'm supposed to be a guy, I... they can just...

Her face turned red at the thought.

Licking her lips Elizabeth dumped her stuff on the bed, clearing her throat as she did so. She fingered the locket around her throat before stuffing it under the thick uniform, sitting on the edge of the bed and staring at the gun she now had sitting in her lap.
I'm supposed to shoot people?

Daelyn hadn't said much at the whole altercation, as a matter of fact he said nothing. He had learned to keep his head down in pressing matters such as that one from prior experiences in his schooling. He hadn't always been the man he was today, and was picked upon quite often for his lunch money. Thankfully they moved on to Edward Cullens, a class mate who had a fixation with glitter for some reason. By and by though he thought nothing of it as the bullies eventually forgot about him. All he could do was stare at the man who had lifted the poor chap by his collar as he began to walk off. One word best described Daelyn Greer, and that was timid. He was a looker of course, and had a certain charm about him when it came to the opposite sex, but his timid nature kept him from really putting himself out there, probably because he feared rejection. By the time Daelyn snapped to, he had realized he was still staring at the man...even worse was that the hulking man was staring angrily back.

"What you got a problem too buddy...didn't like how I was treating your girlfriend eh..." spoke the gruffy man. "What's your name pal...because I have a feeling, you...me...and Mr. Cherry are going to be great friends," grinned the man as he placed his arm roughly around Daelyn's shoulder. A good beating later, Daelyn found himself with a busted lip on the ground at the front of the line, as the larger man walked off without a scratch and casually picked up his gear and headed for his tent. Daelyn prayed he wouldn't be in the same tent as that man. Getting up, he causally dusted himself off, ignored the looks from his peers, and walked forward to receive his assignments. Truthfully all he wanted to do was to lay down and forget about the whole day.

"Name soldier?" asked the man at the desk. "Daelyn...Daelyn Greer," he quietly spoke. "You'll be in tent 052, here's your gear and weapon...good luck soldier," spoke the man sitting at the desk. Obviously the reply was an automated on...he knew the man probably said the same old thing over and over again to the future victims of this war. He sighed as he walked towards his tent, pushing back the flap and entering. He was surprised to find himself bunked with the same tiny guy he had met in line before. Wiping the blood from his lip, he looked at the young man. "Cherry right...we met in line...I'll be your new bunk mate," he said quietly extending his hand for a shake.

IT was slowly dawning on Elizabeth what she'd done... not only had she cut her beautiful blonde hair, but... one: she'd stolen her father's letter. Two: she'd also stolen his uniform, including his helmet. Three: she was one female in a group of hundreds of men. Four: she'd willingly done this.
What is wrong with me!?
Hands balling into fists she brought one to her mouth, biting her knuckles in a nervous fasion.
The last thing was dawning on her.

Five: she'd have to kill people.

Hysteria set in... how was she supposed to do that?! Oh no, oh no no, she surely wouldn't be able to pull the trigger! Eyes watering dangerously she tried her best not to cry, pulling the locket her father had just given her for her birthday from it's haven in her shirt, rubbing it between her index finger and thumb. It calmed her down a lot.
Taking in a deep, if not shakey breath, she nearly screamed when someone came buonding inside the tent.
It was the man from earlier, the handsome one.

"O-oh!" She stood up rather quickly in surprise, dropping her gun on the floor. Her face turned bright red and she quickly bent down to grab it, fumbling with the unloaded weapon for a few seconds before she got a good grip and set it on her small bunk.
"Y-yes sir, Cherry. D-David Cherry." she reached out, taking his hand in a feeble not-very-manly-at-all handshake.
She quickly retracted, hoping he hadn't noticed how soft her hands were compared to his... or how small they were.

I am going to get caught.

"W-what did you say your name was?" She cleared her throat, voice not as squeaky as before. She sneaked a glance up at him, finding he was just as handsome as she remembered.
Stop that, Elizabeth! You're... you're a man now. No looking at your fellow soldiers. She mentally chided herself, dropping her light green eyes to the ground in shame. They weren't even really green... perhaps the color of the ocean, just a dimmer version.
She quietly sat back down on her bunk, pulling her legs up with her. She just wanted to cry... but she couldn't, not with this still un-named man standing there.

"Are... are you nervous, too?" She asked pitifully.

Slightly amused at his new bunk mate's timidness, he immediately let out a breath of relief. Obviously this guy was just as timid, if not more than he was which greatly put his mind at ease. He ran his hand through his short brown hair taking a seat upon his bunk. He placed his things within the small chest provided for him, and locked it up with his own lock. He had barely caught what his new bunk mate had asked. "Oh...how rude of me...my name is Daelyn Greer, and I am immeasurably nervous," he said smiling, revealing a set of pearly white teeth, all perfectly aligned, which was rare in those days.

"So tell me David...what did you do before you got enlisted" he asked quietly removing his shirt, and folding it neatly at his bedside. It was only natural for a male to take no mind to another male when changing, so to Daelyn, this was natural. "I worked in a pub my dad owns, and volunteer at the local lumber mill from time to time, but all in all my life is pretty boring," he said omitting the fact that he was to be married to a girl he wasn't in love with. He thought it better to skip that part due to the long explanation it would require, so he simply left it at that. "My mum passed away sometime ago of sickness, and well it's just been me and my dad since. Truth be told I wanted to be a gunsmith, or a reporter, but I never had the heart for it...or at least so says my Uncle," he said with a smile. "So...now that you know all about me...tell me about yourself, tends to help break the ice right?"

"Tell ya what...we'll start easy. You got any siblings?...no...better yet...anyone waiting for you back at home?" He was full of questions, and with earnestly wanted to know his knew bunk mate, after all he was going to war with this man. He sat there bare chested and slightly sweaty from a mid-days heat and his earlier scuffle, but not too bad. He was very curious and was slowly working his way around to the question he wanted to ask...had he killed anyone before, but thought it best to bite his tongue on that one. He was very nervous at the thought of taking someone's life, that's why he felt no guilt when he locked up the pistol within his trunk without a second thought.

DAELYN Greer was his name... his unimaginably beautiful, wonderful name...
STOP THAT ELIZABETH! she scolded quickly, reaching up and taking her helmet from her head. She reveal her hastily cut blonde hair, which was still curly despite the fact that it had been chopped. It stopped just below her ears, once again giving "David Cherry" that noticable feminine look... though for now she was just a very cute guy.
Hopefully, at least. So long as now one accidently touched her chest she'd be perfectly fine. Right? Right.

Running a hand through her newly chopped hair she smiled slightly, pleased to find he was just as nervous - if not more - then she was. She glanced up at him to find him smiling, her eyes taking in his mouth for just a moment. He had perfect teeth... it was amazing, really, to find a male with teeth that didn't look like they were trying to jump out of his mouth.
Holding the giggle in that was trying to escape Elizabeth/David cleared her/his throat, trying to wrap her mind around this all.

"Well, you see-" a choking sound left her throat when he removed his shirt, her blue green eyes quickly finding the ceiling of the tent.
Oh no, this isn't good... I hope he doesn't want me changing in front of him too.
Her cheeks burned but she quickly hid it, putting her face in her hands as though she were really tired and was simply rubbing her face to stay away. By the time she was done the blush was gone and her eyes were firmly resting on his face, not his rather firm looking chest that she honestly wouldn't mind touchin-
STOP!

"A... a pub, huh? Sounds very interesting, Daelyn." She let loose a tiny smile, lips parting to reveal her equally straight teeth. Not perfect... but good enough, "I'm sure you got all sorts of strange people." She cleared her throat when her voice cracked... this whole having to talk deeper thing was making her throat hurt.
Taking a deep breath she listened intently to what he was saying, wondering if she should just make up a lie.
Yea. Sounded about right. It'd be okay, though... he didn't ever need to know who she really was, right?

"Well... my father owns Cherry Newspaper, so... so I was an apprentice there," all of that was true up until the apprentice part (in actuality she was just hoping for a husband, seeing as her mother wouldn't let her get a job), "And... no, no siblings, I'm an only child. I do have someone waiting for me at home. Her name is, uh... her name is..." she stuttered before finally blurting, "ELIZABETH."
Oh great. Good going there, smart one.
"She's... just my... girlfriend..." A conveinent blush painted itself across her face... good, that would make it more convincing.

"Both my parents are alive, my mum and dad. Uh... I turned eighteen yesterday..." That was all true. She went silent then, deciding she wouldn't tell him anymore. She didn't want him to realize something was off about her... about David Cherry.
"Hey. You have a bloody lip." Elizabeth/David finally said, frowning. How had she missed that?

"Are you... are you alright?"

Daelyn was caught off guard by the question as he reached for his lip and sighed. "Don't worry about it...I just fell," he said bringing up his guard. He sighed and stood to his feet, unbuckling his belt. Tossing the belt carelessly upon his bed, he unbuttoned his pants and let them fall with no more than a second thought, barely catching his boxers as his pants caught hold of them revealing his left buttocks. He quickly pulled up his black colored boxers before they fell any further and unhooked his pants from them hearing them drop to the ground. Changing the subject Daelyn finally broke the silence and spoke out.

"So you said you have a girlfriend...Elizabeth right...pretty name, don't tell a lot of the guys here that...they'll have a field day with you, but your secret is safe with me," he said as he picked his pants up from the ground, folding them as meticulously as he had his shirt, and placing them at the foot of his bed. Now almost nude he sat upon his bed, rolled to his side where he could face his bunk mate, and propped his head up with his arm while speaking. "I like you David...you seem like an okay guy, so tell you what...you look out for me, and I'll look out for you, no funny business, besides...I don't really know anyone around here," he said looking at David with a look that would make a rock crumble.

The proposition was legit, and he figured the two of them would be seeing a lot more of jerks like the one who gave him his fat lip. "Wanna hear a secret?" he asked breaking the silence once more, his emerald green eyes examining the frail man that shared his tent. He looked around as if someone would be listening in, and leaned in off his cot towards David, who was still a good distance away. "I hear there's a beach around here...and my dad tells me that a few of the local girls go topless sunbathing," he said with a grin. "Now I have never ever seen a girl in the nude before, but from what I hear, it's a once in a lifetime experience," he said with a chuckle as it faded to silence.

His smile faded as he gave little time for response. "Truth be told David...I never really wondered about seeing a girl nude. I figured if she wanted me to see her, then she'd show me when the time was right," he chided flopping onto his back, his head sinking into the pillow. He sighed...and turned his head back to David. "Tell me David...your girlfriend and you...are you in love, and if you are...what's it like?" he asked thinking back to his obligation at home. He didn't feel in love with her, but then again they were to be married. Weren't people in marriage suppose to be in love?

He could remember asking his dad the same question when he was 16 years of age. His father only rubbed him on the head, and replied, "Don't worry boy...when your in it, you won't know it, and if you worry too much about it...you'll miss it completely, so say your prayers and off to bed." That was around the time his mother grew ill. She passed away later on that year, and he never asked his father that question again.

ELIZABETH quickly turned her eyes away when the belt came off. She instead examined the stains on the side of the tent... some looked suspicously like blood. She shuddered to wonder what had happened in this tent before... blech. Licking her lips in an almost annoyed fashion she chanced a glance back at Daelyn and wished with all her heart she had just kept looking at the blood stains.
Oh jeez.
By now his pants were falling and his underwear had almost gone with it. Her face turned so red it was pitiful... she quickly buried it between her knees to make it look like she was tired or something.

A proper Lady isn't supposed to see this much skin.

"J-just fell..." she said blandly, keeping her face hidden. She was going to have to start acting more... manly. But if that included stripping she was out, because frankly there wasn't much she could do in that category. She'd just get caught... she was going to have to change whenever Daelyn wasn't around, that much she knew.
"Um. Yes. Yes... Elizabeth..." she murmured quietly, avoiding looking at him. Instead she focused on her tiny little hands... they were very tiny compared to Daelyn's, and most of the other men here. She was going to get picked on endlessly...
She could feel it already. Nodding feebly to his words Elizabeth finally glanced up, cocking her head to the side.
"O-of course. I'll... I'll watch your back..." she said quietly, eyes darting away when he gave her that unmistakably sad look.

"Sure." She said, perking up when he offered her a secret. She kept her eyes trained intently on his face... refusing to look anywhere else. Nope. That would just result in a whole lot of un-needed blushing... then he went on about girls without swimming tops.
Skanks.
Huffing quietly she smiled as best she could, all the time thinking, I see those everyday, buddy.
"I suppose that is exciting, but with Elizabeth waiting for me back home..." her voice trailed off, eyes lingering on Daelyn's face longer then neccescary before darting away, focusing on the ceiling tent.

"In love?" Elizabeth choked, quickly recovering, "I... I honestly don't know. I'm not sure I even know what... what love is..." she murmured, trying to change the subject. She didn't want to talk about the imaginary girl back home, let alone herself.
"I... I think I'm going to go to sleep now. See you tomorrow..." with that she quickly slipped under her blankets, pulling them over her head in a half-hearted attempt at hiding her blushing face.
Oh, I can do this! He thinks I'm a guy... right? Right. If I can trick Greer I can trick anybody!

- the following morning -

A loud trumpet blasting woke the unsuspecting Elizabeth up. She sat up straight, eyes groggy and hair splayed every which way.
What's going on..?
Then it all came back to her. Right. Training...

Daelyn awoke to the loud blasting of a trumpet and immediately swooped out of bed quickly jumping into his bdu pants and placing on his boots. He immediately knew what the trumpets were for and was somewhat excited being that this was his first day of training. Rushing over to his timid bunk mate David, he shook him eagerly, his pants still unbuttoned and his shirt still lying on the floor.

"Hey Cherry...wake up! Don't want to make a bad impression for being late to our first day of training. Now hurry up and get dressed," he said with a smile as he grabbed his shirt and bdu jacket, quickly placing them on and rushing out of his tent to greet the day.

Upon emerging from the tent he was surprised at the sight of a gaggle of soldiers scrambling to get their morning rituals out the way before they became late to formation. Daelyn had chose to skip brushing his teeth this morning and figured he'd have enough time to do so around lunch. He quickly ran to a nearby water pump and began pumping the handle, all the while stooping to catch a bit of water on his head to wash the sleep from his eyes. Satisfied with his makeshift shower he turned to look towards his tent, hoping that David had roused from his slumber.

He was caught off guard when Henry pushed him onto the ground letting out a sneer, continuing to run to formation. Daelyn grunted and swore under his breath as he watched the brute trudge off again. This was going to be a problem. Sighing he hoisted himself up from the ground, dusting off his BDU’s. Swearing once more realizing he had forgotten his dog tags, he rushed back into his assigned tent with little warning of his intrusion. He didn’t think twice to announce his presence being that he was roomed with another man, or so he thought.

SHE was still half asleep when Daelyn jumped from his bed, slinging on a pair of pants and half pulling on his shirt. Elizabeth, or David in this case, was rubbing her eyes in a rather pitiful way, combing her hair down in a attempt to not look so silly. On the contrary she looked a lot less female with her hair splayed every which way... still entirely too pretty, but at least the hair threw that off. Just a bit. After a moment of wrestling with her hair it laid flat, a yawn erupting from her mouth as Daelyn came out of nowhere and shook her shoulder roughly.

"I'm awake... I'm awake..." she moaned quietly, pushing his hand away with a shrug of her shoulders. He was gone quicker then hell then, leaving Elizabeth to her own changings. She stood up and stretched, back popping several times. Assuming that Daelyn was gone she looked down at herself.
Oh.
Oh, dammit!
She'd fallen asleep in her uniform! Gasping she was suddenly wide awake, struggling out of her shirt to shake it out.

Now now, don't get excited. She had a bra on... but regardless, she hadn't been expecting Daelyn to come banging inside. Gasping she fell back on her bottom, holding the top tightly against her chest.
"I... uh..." she stuttered, cheeks blossoming a gentle pink as she sat on the floor.

It appeared she'd been caught. Or so she assumed; she was unaware that Daelyn was horribly unobservant... if she had known she wouldn't have been so read, her heart wouldn't have been hammering so harshly in her chest.
Or would it have?
The thought of having a young male (a handsome one at that) actually... see her... well, it was exciting.

Thrilling.
Terrifying.

Her cheeks turned brighter at the thought; she didn't know Daelyn like that in the slightest, plus he thought she was a man. Albeit a very adorable fun-sized male... but still, he didn't know she was secretly supporting a clam between her legs.
How very unladylike... the thought made her duck her head in mild shame.

"D-Daelyn..." she could feel her voice shaking, "I... can explain this..."

Daelyn's mind swam in confusion as he stood frozen staring at his bunk mate...apparently he had breasts. His next move became an important one, he simply reached over to his other arm, pinched it, and sighed closing his eyes and suddenly turning away. Nope...this wasn't a dream at all. Finally he blurted out with his back turned to Cherry..."Um...I didn't see anything I swear! Erm...don't be late for first formation," and with that said he rushed out of the tent, too confused to even deal with the situation right now. He simply kept his mind focused on the task at hand, and that was making it to formation on time, all the while playing back the scene that had unfolded within his tent. This would truly make things more...difficult.

Should I say something to the Drill Sergeant? No...she had to have joined for a good reason...maybe I should hear her out before I even consider blowing the whistle...but still, this was a dangerous game to play, especially at war time. He wouldn't feel right if they got shipped out and she got injured, something about a woman getting hurt really hit home...just didn't feel right. Making formation with only a few minutes to spare, he fell in with the rest of the troops, only snapping to attention upon the Drill Sergeant's request.

"All right maggots...if you haven't heard the news yet, apparently our country is at war. Your sorry asses signed the paper, which ultimately means your my property now. My name is Drill Sergeant...no first or last name. You will call me Drill Sergeant...anything else, and I'll chew your a** up so fast, you'll be begging me to send you home. This ain't preschool anymore, and you sure as hell aren't in Kansas. Things like love, friendship, all that mamby pamby bullshit gets left at home with the women. No...you boys are gonna learn how to be lean mean killing machines. Your gonna sweat...your gonna bleed...and God willing i'm gonna make your asses cry...so get your asses in gear, and move out to the obstacle course. Get in groups of two...today we're learning teamwork."

Daelyn was impressed, and had to admit slightly amused at the Drill Sergeant's rant. The man was a tall stocky man, who became rather veiny and red when yelling, and had an air of authority about him. Daelyn just fell in suite with the rest of the group when ordered to pair up, and searched the crowd knowing exactly who he wanted to pair with. He needed answers, and hopefully David Cherry could provide some.

ELIZABETH was more than embarrassed. She was mortified. A man who certainly wasn't her betrothed nor would he ever be her husband had just seen her in her unmentionables. Granted it was only the top half, but that was still terrifyingly scarring. He stared at her for a moment, her bottom lip trembling dangerously as she hugged the shirt tightly to her tiny form.
"O-oh, I..." she stumbled awkwardly through her words, watching as he whirled around and proceeded to tell her very nervously that he hadn't seen anything.
"D-Daelyn, wait... wait a second..." she raised her hand, reaching for him as he vanished from the tent folds.

"Dammit!"

Quickly pulling the shirt over her head she could feel her cheeks burning, and uncomfortable sensation that made her want to cry. Despite the fact that she was embarrassed beyond belief, she could feel her heart pounding in excitement.
No one but her mother had ever seen that much of her skin before. And she was a woman. Clearing her throat she quickly stuffed her helmet over her messy hair and took a shaky breath, trying to calm herself down.

After a few shaky exhales she stood up, grabbing her army issued gun as she passed it. She made it to the line up just in time; just a second later and she would have been yelled at for missing formation.

Elizabeth avoided Daelyn completely, standing on the opposite side of the line-up as she listened to Drill Sergeant bark orders. Her heart began to pound harshly in her tiny chest; she was never going to make it. She was so frail and tiny looking; this was only amplified by the fact that she was standing next to full grown men who towered above her.
She felt the Drill Sergeant's eyes linger on her and tried her best not to blush; someone like him would see right through her disguise.

Little did she know she'd been picked out as the weakling; he'd be ruthless when it came to anything she did. She would figure it out eventually, she supposed.

Licking her lips as they were sent off to try the obstacle course she felt her arm being grabbed; Daelyn.
"Oh, I... I uh told... someone else I'd..." he was buying it, and soon enough Elizabeth - David - found herself stuck with the man who'd caught her for a fake.

The rest of the day was miserable.

Not only was Elizabeth dodging around obstacles, but she was dodging around Daelyn's never ending stream of questions. She had shushed him several times... but he just didn't stop.
At some point she became frustrated and turned on him, tripping over her own feet and falling smack on her bottom. Unfortunately for Drill Sergeant he was standing with his back to them, calling some poor soldier a maggot.

His back was sprayed with mud that flew from under Elizabeth's feet.

Expecting to be yelled at she was rather surprised when Daelyn grabbed her arm, yanking her to her feet and quickly taking the blame for her mistake.
"N-no, that was me-" her voice was too quiet compared to his; Drill Sergeant assigned him kitchen duty for a week.
Elizabeth felt terrible, and she still did even as the sun began to set.

The soldiers were sent to shower and go to bed; they'd had a long day, and Drill Sergeant needed them rested up so he could torture them so more the next day. Elizabeth was rather fatigued herself; dirt streaked her pretty face and her helmet was catty-wompus on her head... not to mention she had holes in her shirt and pants from when Daelyn had to untangle her from barbed wire.

It had been a long... really annoying day.

Coughing in a rather pitiful manner she nearly tripped, grabbing Daelyn's arm with her small hand to keep herself upright. Once she realized what she had done she released him, feeling a blush rise. The color was hidden behind the mud, much to her relief.

"Y-you... can go ahead... I... I uh, I can't shower when everyone else... does..." Again she blushed, green eyes swinging to the ground in shame. She was waiting for him to tell someone; in fact, she was surprised he hadn't told Drill Sergeant already...
