Adam is tall in stature with broad shoulders and a strong body. His skin can only be described as dark and weathered and his hair is a light chestnut brown. He has dark inset eyes that are a rich green in color and only truly reveal their character when Adam looks into the sun. His face is the most apparent sign of his past as Adam takes intentional care to hide it in every other way. With high cheek bones and a square jaw, his visage takes on an eerie shadow. Adam does not keep a beard but his facial hair grows in so quickly that he always seems to have a thin layer of stubble framing his lips. On the rare occasion that he smiles his face lights up as only those from his past are familiar with.
He carries a recurve bow of black locust that is equal in length to his body. Obviously cultured to an outdoor lifestyle, his garb reflects his needs. He will often wear a loose shirt and leather pants belted around his waist. He wears a black hooded cloak around his shoulders that compliments his looming figure. Black boots that look as though they've served him well for many years adorn his feet.

Adamus is kin to an old family line of English that lived isolated from others. As he has reintregrated himself into society, his speech has taken on adaptations and blends in with that of most others. Every now and again he will say something to the students and signs of his old life in the woods will come through in an untraceable accent.

Adam is somewhat aloof in nature. He usually comes off as focused and uninterested in the matters of others. Hardworking and resourceful, he is driven by his desire to be purposeful to the school. Adam is characterized by not being one of many words but only speaking when there is something useful to say. All of this not to be misunderstood in thinking Adam an unkind man. He has been known to do random acts of charity to those around him, but usually in a most subtle way.

Adamus' story begins in a forest that at one time was called Sherwood. Now it is unknown to most witches and wizards except the few that wander into the fringe from Hogwarts that borders it to the west. For generations his kin have lived under the canopy of those woods foraging from its resources and trading with villagers from the outlying villages. Adam's parents gave birth to two twin children, himself and his brother John. The two were quite fond of each other and spent all their time together playing in the shadow of the giant trees.
Youth passed and they continued to be inseperable. One early morning, in their eighth year they were out hunting together and Adam noticed that John was not quite himself. The two had a very special link between themselves, like one always knew what the other was thinking. This proved very advantageous when they were out tracking game, and the two made a successful team. But as Adam trudged through the wood that morning he felt as if something had been severed and that his brother could have been far far away. At about dawn Adam realized that in his disturbed musings he had lost sight of John. He called out to him but there was no answer. When Adam was about to run back to the village to get help, he heard what seemed to be his brother's voice coming from the glade ahead. As he topped the hill, he saw John lying in the sun beneath him, all color drained from his body. Adam roused his brother and drug him slowly back to the village.
The strange chanting continued and for days Adam worried that John may never come back to him. Their parents were at loss for what to do and they sought out help from the centaur who were learned in strange arts. The centaur inquired about the child's mumbling, whether anything was comprehensible. When the father mentioned that he had heard amongst the nonsense of a giant black tree, dead and withered to the tips of it's branches, the centaur knew at once that a powerful prophecy was being spoken. This magic was taking hold of poor John's being and was slowly using up all of his lifeforce. Their parents were forced to leave Adam and John in the care of the centaur as their village was attacked suddenly and the two were called to join the fight. They never saw their parents again. The centaur began to realize that something dark was at work in the forest and this boy might be the key to solving it's mystery. They recorded the parts of the prophecy that were understandable but nothing more was ever learned about the black withered tree. For one evening while the rest of the herd was sleeping John arose soundlessly from sleep. He wandered out of the hut and disappeared into the darkness of the forest. The following morning Adam was sent to live at the castle, Hogwarts, for the centaur knew they could not keep him safe from the dangers of the forest any longer.

------

In the time after John's disapperence, the troubles in the wood all but vanished. If not for the looming presence of an evil in waiting, the forest would seem to have carried on where it left off. Adam lived in his quarters at the castle until he was eleven when he was sorted into Ravenclaw house. The elders had decided that the centaur would continue to give care to Adam and so they gave him a portkey to return to the village when school was out. In this way, they were able to check up on him for they were eager to know if the prophecy would carry on through him. Although the nature of his guardians was course and resolute the centaur were accepting of Adam and Adam loved them for it. In fact he came to admire their lifestyle and in turn adopted many traits as his own. He practiced the ways of the centaur in his time away from the school. He learned quickly the art of the bow, as it is a right of passage to all amongst them. He had a special knack for it as if it were in his blood to hold and shoot the arrow and he grew to stand out as a fine archer that could not be matched by any of the centaur.

However the sting that was the sorrow in Adam's past never loosed it's grip on him in the proceeding years. His life at Hogwarts was marked by remorse, his heart was and is broken. He found magic to be fascinating and was diligent in his studies, but it had played such a crucial role in John's death and when reminded of that loss, it left a bitter taste in his mouth. When he finished his seventh year at Hogwarts, he put away his wand and forsook magic and its users for six years of exile in the woods of his ancestors.

------

Time went by and Adam returned to his centaur family, serving them in every capacity available to him. He lunged headstrong into a physical life, thriving on the theraputic nature of manual labor. He began to regain a sense of community and while his heart grew numb in his time away from beings it also grew soft. Adam soon found himself able to love once more. The centaur watched him diligently during his stay with them and in a meeting of the elders it was decided that Adam was to leave them and return to society where his kind nature and resourceful attitude would be put to better use. They instructed him to seek out the Headmistress at Hogwarts and inquire about the job of groundskeeper for their former had left to be with his wife in France.

Adam is a falconer. He aquired his peregrine falcon, Lucy, upon returning to Hogwarts where he found her battered by a storm. He nursed her broken wing for several months and the two are now quite inseperable. In the small bouts of leisure time that Adam gets he can be found out hunting with his Lucy.

Adam's patronus takes the form of a spirit bear and it is larger than most wizard's patronuses. It is conjured while Adam is remembering John. He had a turning point encounter during his exile while he was down by a stream deep in the heart of the forest. While cleaning his face in the cool water he looked down into the reflection of a large white bear. He froze, not wanting a confrontation with the beast but he slowly drew up his head to gaze into the bear's eyes. At once, as if being hit in the chest with a sack full of bricks, it hit him. He knew those eyes, they were the calm blue eyes of his brother John. For a moment more they lingered, looking into each other's souls and then in the blink of an eye the bear was gone. It had sauntered back into the dark recesses of the forest. It was only days after this incident that Adam returned to the centaur.
