People have started a village there.
Somebody dies.
Is very " surprised ".

After she had written the last sentence, she couldn't help but smile. It was a masterpiece that she actually made. "Great. Now, I just need to get it approved and everything will be perfect!" Tammy hugged the freshly written paper tightly and put it back down again. A frown slowly replaced her smile. She sighed dramtically and walked towards the door. "Ugh... I still need to go to the market for dinner, don't I?" Without hesitation, she grabbed her coat (the one that people always made fun of) and headed for the door into the shady forest.
After a little walking into the town, things were kind of weird. Not the old gramma kind of weird, but just... weird. Nobody was outside, except for the few people selling things at the market. And... what was that smell?
Tammy covered her nose, almost gagging at the stench. She looked around frantically, but found nothing but the usual. Same old trees. Same old worn down stone houses. Same old market.
She started to jog faster so she could quickly buy her stuff without being around the smell any longer. Up ahead were stands full of fruits and veggies, along with the neighbors selling them. She made it to them breathing hard, and put her hands on her knees to catch her breath. They looked at her with worry.
"Is everything alright?" One of them asked. She shook her head and finally lifted it to speak. "Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just kind of in a hurry. That smell is terrible, I feel sick! I mean, don't you smell it?" They looked away and didn't say a word. Although she was suspicious, she really didn't feel like throwing up, so she shook it away.
"Actually, I can just have leftovers. I'll have some tomorrow. Bye guys." Tammy managed to cough out before running back up the path. Whatever that smell is better be taken care of. She muttered to herself.
Just then a happy thought struck her. Why don't I go visit him? I bet he won't mind. She hung a left up at the fork and headed off to his house, when she really started coughing. "Oh man. What IS that?" That's when she saw it. Right there, in the middle of the path.
It was one of the residents, Ted. Blood pooled around him. Pooled around his limp, lifeless body. Horror struck her. Run, just run. You can tell him what happened, but just run. Get out of here now! Tammy told herself.
She ran like a theif all the way to his house, banging loud on his door once she got there.

Briar stared intensely at his T.V. screen, wiggling the joystick on his controller with one thumb while rapidly hitting buttons with the other. His eyes focused on one zombie after another as they ran at his player. "Die! Die! Diiieee!" he cackled, chuckling slightly as the bodies piled up. He gave a flickering glance to his high score in the top right of the screen and saw that he was only 3,000 more points away from beating it. "Allllmost....Allllllmost! I'm going to finally beat it!"
And then Tammy started banging on his door.
Briar was so startled that he jumped, fell over, and bumped the power button on his Xbox. When he saw the screen go black, he screamed, "NOOO! Why must this always happen? Why me? Why?" He went to answer the door as he wailed. "I will tear out your throat and eat your liver, whoever has done me this cruelty, this injustice!" Then he opened the door, saw it was Tammy, and smiled. "Oh. It's you. Do you have any idea what you just did?!"

Before the door opened, Tammy tried to recollect herself, but she still looked like a mess when Briar came out. Her head was sweaty from the running and her hair even worse. She tried her best to calm down, but the scene she saw still shocked her. She swallowed and in the slowest voice possible spoke. "Look, I have some news to tell you." Her eyes darted to the ground, ignoring his question. Keeping the gaze would be impossible-especially after what she was going to tell him.
"On the way here I found... Well, while I was walking I saw. I-I..." Tammy stammered trying to find the right words. She finally looked up once she organized herself better and spit it out.
"Ted was killed."

Briar watched her as Tammy stammered and started listening once he realized that this was bigger than his video game. "Ted was killed.""What?" Briar choked out, taken aback. "Wait, wait, you're sure? Get inside, I'll get you some water. Are you positive he was dead?" Briar gently led her inside at to the kitchen, gesturing for her to sit at the island while he filled a glass with water. "Did you see the body or hear something?" He set the glass in front of her and sat on the other side of the island. "Tell me exactly what happened."

Tammy quietly followed Briar until she sat down. Although it was nice he gave her water, she was in no mood to drink or eat. Ted was like a father to her. To everyone. Losing him was like losing her world.
She thought through everything slowly, and got the courage to answer his questions. "I am positive he is dead, I saw his... his.. body for myself." She almost started to cry, but she held the tears back. If she had been strong for her sister's passing, she could handle this as well.
Tammy wiped her eyes with her hands and started again.
"I guess it started early this morning. I had finished my story and remembered I needed to buy dinner still, so I went out. Everything outside was... I don't know." She paused to cough and continued. "Nobody was outside but me and a few people at the market. There was also a really bad smell so... I guess I left and headed for your place, since... well.."
She blushed slightly and frowned. "Anyway, I found him on the way. Right in the middle of the road in his own blood. Nobody else was around at the time."

Briar was gaping at her after she mentioned the pool of blood. To be honest, he was as intrigued as he was horrified. "You stay here. Did you check his pulse? I'll go see if he is still alive. Call the police, okay?" He slapped the table as he jogged out the door and headed towards the market.
After a minute, he came sprinting back. "Okay. Yep. He's dead." He ran his hand through his hair as he paced back and forth. "Crap. Ted's dead."

Tammy nodded when he told her to call the police. It was the least she could do. She ran over to the table where the phone was and dialed the police. After a few short answers, they were on their way.
When Briar came back, all she did was stare. In the back of her mind, she knew he was still alive.
But she was wrong. He was really... dead.
She shook from all the emotions. Nothing seemed to make sense.
"So.. what will happen next?" She said in a voice almost too small for even an ant to hear.

Briar clapped his hands together and stopped pacing. "I have no. Freaking. Idea. I guess we will just have to wait for the police and tell them everything. Then it's their problem. I mean, job."
He dragged a hand down his face and looked at her, realizing at last just how disturbed she seemed. He walked to her and gave her a one-armed hug across the shoulders. "Hey, look, it's going to be okay, okay? No sense getting worked up. Let's just calm down now," he said, patting her arm.
He has always been bad at comforting people. Especially at times like this, when he himself could barely understand what was happening. Jeez, Ted is really dead? Our Ted? kept running through his head on a loop.

Tammy tried to listen to him, but it was hard to. Every word seemed less interesting. Strange how something as simple as a death can change everything so much.
Tammy felt a little better that Briar had come to comfort her. It was obvious he wasn't good in situations such as these, but she was happy he tried. She sighed and whispered, "..Sorry."
Suddenly, she started to feel dizzy.
Maybe it was because she was hungry, or just from everything that was going on. Who knows. Tammy couldn't really hold herself anymore.
She started to slip from his hug, falling to the ground.

"Tammy? Tammy!" Briar hooked his arms under hers and kept her from slipping onto the floor."Tammy, are you okay?"
He tugged her up a bit until he could get an arm under the crook of her legs, then used the other arm to support her back. Bridal-style, he carried her over to the couch and laid her out on it. "Hey, can you hear me? I will dump water on your face if you don't wake up in ten seconds, chickie! And then I will dance on your grave!"

Tammy opened her eyes just enough to see Briar.
Geez... why are people so loud? she thought sleepily.
She spoke just loud enough to hear, and was really hoping he wouldn't soak her in water. Her shirt might get wet, and that wouldn't be the best sight.
"I don't feel so good... Can I just lay here?" It hurt to get the words out. It was like another boulder was being added to her chest for every word she said.

"DANCE ON YOUR GRAVE! Yeah, sure. But you'd better wake up after, got it? I think you are going into shock or something," Briar chattered aloud, then he started chattering in his head instead.
Didn't I read something about this, where if the people go to sleep, they might die? Oh, wait, that was for concussions. Crap, what's the best thing for people in shock? His mind drew up a blank, so he started to spazz even more. Dammit, brain, you are supposed to give me knowledge! Handy knowledge! To know about stuffs!

She cringed at his tone, but then just closed her eyes again.
"Heh... I will. I am the amazing Tammy, aren't I?" She laughed weakly and tried to drift off into sleep.
Her dream was nice. It was about a family eating at a table, three of them. Two guys and a girl. They were laughing and having fun. She tried waking up by pinching herself in her dream, but it didn't work.
Maybe the police would be there soon or something.
She would probably be awake by then.

"Of course." Briar sat on the floor and leaned his back against the couch to wait for her to wake up and for the police to arrive. In the meantime, he thought about Ted.
He only briefly saw the scene, just long enough to make sure Ted was dead, so he couldn't tell if there had been a struggle or if it were an accident or not. It was rather suspicious, how Tammy could smell the corpse from the market, yet nobody had come to check it out. His road wasn't very busy most of the time, but it wasn't out of the way, either. Somebody could have easily have gone to see where the stench was coming from.
A sudden thought came to him out of paranoia. If somebody killed Ted, and they were at the market, and Tammy asked about the smell, what if they targeted her next? He had to know. "Tammy? Wake up, I need to know something," he said, shaking her shoulder.
