Outside, rain was pattering against the windows that were situated above the aquariums. Thirst had driven the young white rat out of hiding in her run down, toppled cage hide out, and knowing it was something like midday, knew that may of the predators that stalked this area would be tucked up asleep, preparing for the dusk and night time hunting. She was still careful, moving from hiding place to hiding place, peeking around corners, dashing between cover, sitting for a short time to gauge if she had been seen. At one point, the fluffy tail of a cat was observed disappearing around a shelving unit, but it did not return, and so the young rat took the chance, and continued on her way.She was young, and she was fit, and her observations of the world were, she felt, different to others! She saw things in terms of shapes, colours, and how these could translate to the fur! She had great ambitions to be a fur painter, an Asosi'th! She had coined the word herself, from what little Ratspeak she had learnt since the departure of the the Great Ones! It was an interesting language, and she was picking it up quickly, as though she had always known it, but it just needed to be reawakened. As she trotted the last few feet to the aquaria, her eyes caught sight of a bright, interesting packet, and she diverted her paws, and walked over to it. It was a fish food packet, partly open, having been scavenged by whatever creatures had decided they liked the weird taste of this fishy food. The patterns on it, though, were the most fascinating! Brightly coloured stripes, swirls, and then a cartoony fish! The young rat knew fish didn't look like this, because looking, she could see the few hardy survivors of the flood! Looking at the food, then back to the fish, her belly did a little flop! What a hunger those fish must be feeling! They couldn't get to food like she and her kin!
Rolling down the open end of the food packet, she took it in her teeth, and made her way up the precarious ledges to the lids of the only accessible tanks. In the water below, gaping mouths sucked at the surface of the water. The little white rat smiled at them.
"Don't worry, fishies! I have come with food for you!" She unrolled the packet, and took a large flake from the bag. Looking around, hoping no one was watching, she licked the flake. Gagging, dropping the flake, and using her paws to rub at her tongue, Bew cringed as the fish sucked the flake down quickly. "Horrid fishies! That is not taste good!" Sitting on the edge of the water tank, she tossed in flakes intermittantly, watching around for predators. When the fish seemed sated, the young rat risked a quick drink. A few inquisitive fish approached, but the young rat quickly reared back, to avoid being pulled into the tank. "Silly fishies! Bew too quick for you!"
