"...You... stupid... Cockatrice... please.... stop... ROLLING ON ME~!" a feminine, almost childlike voice yelped, followed by a series of thuds and grunts of pain, then the sound of a very small something like a temper tantrum, and then a few moments later, a cooing, noise, like comfort. "I'm sorry, pretty birdie... come on, here, I'll give you some water..." If one were to follow the voice, one would find themselves looking at one of the strangest pairs ever imagined: a small, female moogle, and a very pudgy cockatrice were sitting in the sand, and the moogle was pulling out a water dish, pouring from a water pouch for the bird, before pouring some on herself.

"I wonder when this desert will end... it seems to stretch on and on and on..."
she murmured to herself, glancing at the unforgiving sun.

It was then, when the female and the cockatrice had settled down to share some water did a dwarf chocobo with unusual coloration and its dark moogle rider approached. Why J'lemon was wearing dark colors in a desert was a mystery. Why his choice of Chocobo was this midget compared to the rest wasn't. Choco Ono was fast, reliable, and damn intelligent. The sight of the cockatrice was curious. The sight of the moogle caring for it was even odder for J'lemon.

With a few clicks and a few light tugs on the reins, he pulled his mighty stead to a halt. J'lemon's large ears twitched, the gold hanging off jingled slightly as he peered behind those bright blue lenses at the Moogle and her stead.

" . . . Um . . . three hundred feet away is an oasis," he stated plainly as his bird chirped and whistled, peering at the round thing with great interest. " Two miles is the city. . . and you're sitting out in the sun having a picnic? . . . " A little gruff, but J'lemon had been pulled out here for a job --a ruin survey-- and he was done and ready to go back and hide beneath those canopies that dampened the heat by a few degrees. Choco Ono chirped in agreeement, or more or less whistled and did a soft snort. She wanted water too, but she had a job to do and would drink and play in the water when they were safe.

Minette blinked at the sudden intrusion of her thoughts, looking up from her seated position, ears twitching slightly as she listened to the other mog. He looked like he'd be roasting alive in such dark colors, and he had a mount almost as strange as her own Cockatrice. She frowned slightly, and then sighed, "Oh... have you ever tried riding a cockatrice? They try to roll in whichever way they want to go, and never lisen when you try to direct them... still, thanks for that bit of information, kupo. Who are you, anyway? And what're you doing out here in those colors?" she asked, tilting her head. "And your poor chocobo, it must be thirsty..."

J'lemon listened, leaned forward on his chocobo, tilted his head to the side and smirked. Or looked like he was smirking. He could have an eyelash in his eye under those goggles of his. His mini-bird, though, chirped and took watch. Anything could be lurking out there. Especially Cactuar and giant sand rocs.

"Kupo? Wouldn't it work if you built a saddle with a roll cage on it? I hear Humes could smith such items. " He didn't answer what he was doing in these rediciously dark clothes. ( Seriously, what was he doing in them? It was just silly! Not really. Thin cotton trapped the heat and black was warm in the freezing nights. A few hours of discomfort made up for the icicle growing temperatures later in the night...when he was working. ) " Yes. Both of us are, but if we stopped every time our throat got mildly parched, we wouldn't make any headway, kupo. "

Choco Ono chirped and nodded her head in agreement. Ah, intelligence. Such a great trait in a bird. And one that was absolutely invaluable to J'lemon. He wouldn't trade his Choco Ono for the world. Absently he ran his fingers through the warm birds' feathers, effectively cooling that little spot and bringing a soft coo from the delightful bird. " J'lemon Dupuk . And Choco Ono. We really dawled here too long, Miss whomever you are. I'd offer you a lift, but... can't really. She can't take more than one person and a few extra pounds. Scouting...and stuff. "

It was true, humes could smith roll-cages... but it took a while, and had to be specially fitted to her Cockatrice, Minette knew. Furthermore, Minette had only just bought her new food shop, and it had left her funding... lacking, save for enough to maintain her Cockatrice's stall and her own small home over the shop. "It would work, kupo, but it's expensive to get metals for such a thing.. and I just bought a food shop..." she shrugged, and then smiled lightly at his logic, and rose. "Minette and Vice...And I understand that completely... I've never seen a chocobo so small. Is she a special breed?" she asked, and studied his bird's vibrant markings. And she seemed very smart, too, with that nod.

His pompom twitched in his amusement, and J'lemon seemed to smile in understanding. He had very little money to his name right now as well. Just enough to keep Choco Ono well fed and his items maintained at least. But the word 'item shop' caught his attention. He would be dealing with her often.

"She's a special one. I had hoped she would have grown to standard size, but it appears her unique genetics prevented full growth. " J'lemon stared at his bird, who seemed to tilt her head to the side and let out a very un-ladylike 'WARK' in protest to standing still for so long. Though her colors were light, the dark blue of her feather tips of her wings soaked up a lot of heat. She flapped her useless wings, effectively cooling herself off and lifting off the ground a few inches. " I . . . honestly think the intelligence was a fluke, kupo. " It was a running joke between the chocobo and the rider. J'lemon was beyond thankful how intelligent his friend was. It saved him a few times...and Choco Ono was getting that impatient look in her eyes.

" We...really should find some shelter if we are to continue talking, kupo." He said, concern now dripping into his speech, and sliding off of his ride to give ChocoOno a bit of rest. " If we start now, kupo, we could probably make to the oasis in an hour. The water's cool there and there is good shade. " His gaze moved from the other mog to the cockatrice in a questioning manner. Did she need help rolling the bird to the oasis? And why was she using a cockatrice! Bah.... Moogles. His race made no sense. But at least they made more sense to him than those Humes.

Minette quietly moved to her cockatrice, nodding at J'lemon. "Ah, so... she had normal-sized parents?" she murmured, casting a curious look at him as she turned, and then pointed herself and the cockatrice towards the direction of the oasis, and nudged his side. A slight breeze picked up, ruffling his feathers as he blinked slowly, and then lunged, plunging his beak towards the ground and rolling down, and then up a few small dunes. Minette sighed deeply, and then followed him quietly. She was used to the bird taking off randomly on her, and it usually bother her, unless they disagreed about direction.
