Since the Disappearance of the Great Ones, the pet store has become less of a sanctuary and more of a hell to some rats. Without the maintenance from the Great Ones, cages are becoming weak and even the less crafty and intelligent creatures are escaping containment. Predators lurk everywhere, and running forever is no proper life for a rat. But Monster has discovered a solution.
He has found a series of empty cages in the reptile area that would make a good home to a colony of rats. More importantly, there is a python that lives in a large cage beneath those, and Monster believes they can get it to protect them. He thinks that if they offer a pup from each litter produced in the colony, just a single pup, the snake will protect them from the dangers around the pet store.
Monster proposes that they band together and inhabit this new safe haven! They will be the Takushuzu-sim ("Safe Snake", literally, or more liberally "Snake Protected") and they will be absolutely protected.
The OOC:
There will be several roles that need filled, or potentially need filled.
Usoothe :: One who talks to snakes :: I'd potentially like to find a usoothe that can speak to other animals. If they can break the language barrier and make an official deal with the python, it would probably be safer for them and solidify Monter's beliefs. The Usoothe would have continued contact with the snake and would choose which pups are sacrificed. (This is for RP-purposes only, the owners of the litter would be the ones to actually choose)
Feeder :: Works closely with the Usoothe to please the python and is one of the few rats able to get close enough to the snake without fear of becoming a meal. The feeder is responsible for carrying out the sacrifices.
Utak :: Mothers :: The females of the colony who have bred or will breed to feed the snake. They are well respected and taken care of. These are the lovely rats that have allowed the continued sacrifices of their children for the good of all!
Laysi :: Scouts :: The few rats brave enough to venture beyond the colony's cages. They bring water and food back to the colony, often from the aquariums nearby.

Where will you live? In a couple snake cages above an inhabited cage. These cages are stocked with snake hides and other such decorations, but they make a good home for a rat as well. There is a hole the rats have bitten through the divider in the cages that allows them to get from one to the other.
