There are two types of characters in Grand Chase MP and AP!

MP characters have a bar that fills only when attacking an enemy and you can use specials when the bar has filled enough. There are three specials in a bar and you pick which one you would like to use by holding the attack key until it has charged to that specials point in the bar. So far there is one exception to the MP bar charge. She is a starting character called Arme, she can charge her bar by standing still as long as she is not hit.

AP characters have a bar that will fill no matter what you are doing. Most have passive skills that you can get to speed up the time it takes to fill their bar. Each character has five specials that are one button pushes that are on the a, s, d, f, and g keys. Each skill will take a portion of your AP and will have a cool down period befor you can use then again. The more powerful the special the longer the cool down.

There is one character that is a mix of MP and AP called Asin. He has an MP bar that slowly charges no matter what you are doing but attacking enimeis will help charge it faster. He has single button push specials with cool downs just like AP characters. But you can charge the special by holding the attack button so that you can avoid the cool down all together!

wahmbulance There are points you get when you level called SP or skill points.They are for both MP and AP characters. You can use these to get things like passives and specials! But be very careful to level up the right things because once you use an SP you cannot change your mind and take it off a skill unless you are able to pay cash for SP reset cards.

I've been playing since Ronan's 2nd job had just been released, and I really have no preference between them.~

Dio is just as fun as Ronan except that he starts at level 30.
AARRGGH (Do they still do that?)

I haven't unlocked any AP characters on my new account though. :/ (Started over with one of my best friends.~)

The best thing to do is to find a character whose first job you like, instead of trying to decide between AP and MP types and such. Even if you hate all their other jobs you can just go back to the first one and keep questing.~

If you hate the first job, you probably shouldn't bother. ;

She isnt trying to tell anyone to choose character type to choose she is just trying to explain the difference between the 2 although i also disagree with you i think the best way to decide about a character is to first try them out in practice and find a job that you like then shoot for that job. Mostly due to the fact with most MP characters the jobs are very different from one another.

Ok you may have been playing for a while but i do not agree with you. First of all it does not depend on weather or not you like the first job. Characters can change quite a bit from job to job when it comes to MP. Second you do not have to choose between AP or MP all the characters are very diferent and to know if you are going to like them you have to try them out.

Well if you like the first job, it doesn't matter if all of the other jobs suck. :3 (As in you dislike them, not that they're below quality.) For instance with Arme, I love her first job more than anyone else's, (or did when I started,) but the rest of her jobs are bar unusable to me, very uncomfortable and awkward. This did not deter me from using Arme as my main back then because I liked her first job.~ The rest didn't matter. (Her fourth is neat too.) I only like Lass' first and fourth jobs as well, so I could just play as his first job until I get said fourth.~

AP and MP characters being different is kind of obvious. razz

AP characters have the same basic attack style for all four jobs.
However, you can change their skillset completely, even between jobs, for a better variety of skills. Some gain certain skills skills via their extra tabs but don't change as drastically as MP characters.

MP characters change basic attack styles and skillsets completely between jobs, some even change movement styles and such, or even gain new attacks.
For instance Ronan's second job, you can hold down and attack in the air and perform a dive attack.
With his third job, via proper timed presses of the directional keys, you can block or even reflect projectiles and attacks.~
But there is no true way to change their skills completely, and it can be inconvenient to have to buy multiple weapons to match your new jobs, therefore having to buy several of a weapon for each character.

And don't get me started on the mid-battle weapon change thing they added right before I was forced to quit this time. l3 ;;

I was simply saying that some people who can't decide their main should narrow it down by deciding whether or not they like AP or MP characters more, and then choose from that pool.~ Not that you can only play one or the other.

EDIT: Wow, the new costumes for the characters in your sig look really sweeet. :3 I like your characters.~

I know she's just trying to explain the difference, I was simply stating my opinion, as in one possible way, that people could decide their main. x3

The choosing mid-job in practice mode thing can make the game redundant if you don't like the character's first job, for instance I know alot of people that simply cannot handle playing as Lire, but they really liked her third or fourth job in practice mode. It would be more fun, and even effective, to simply play as someone else that they liked more.~

Generally that's how I recruit friends and keep them playing longer anyway. I've introduced several people to this game and it's much easier for them to choose a character when they choose based on their first job rather than trudge through the first three or so to aim for a fourth job that's disappointingly boring in the dungeons. ;

People like to assume that the characters will be just as fun or easy to play as in the dungeons as in practice mode but tragically this is not always the case. ._. I've seen this especially commonplace for people who were eager to get Elesis' third job, Swordmaster, when it first came out, and didn't like it AT ALL in the dungeon despite how "easy" it was to use in practice mode.

I for one didn't care for it in practice mode, but Swordmaster is delicious in dungeons, especially when you're juggling entire groups. >l9

I see what you are saying but your first post could be quite confusing to someone who has not played before! I would hate to have someone start and be completely thrown off because of a misunderstanding! xp I would still recomend trying every character in practice just to at least get an idea of how their jobs work.

Thank you for the complement!!! 3nodding

Heehee, I'm sorry if my post was confusing. x3 ; I would also recommend trying all of the classes in practice mode, especially if you're new, so you can get a feel for the game and what kind of play-style you want to try for.~

I myself change pretty drastically between characters and it can be confusing when I mix up my styles, considering how frequently I can change. <(._. wink . I have to fix my computer somehow before I can even play again. >l3 ;

Yes, it certainly beats the old days when people all looked the same, or worse, plastered their characters with garbage trying to eek out every little stat point possible and STILL looked the same. =w=; The new appearance shop is awesome, until.. the new offers are all replaced by the non-permanent versions and the items you buy WITH CASH can EXPIRE.

I don't know why they sincerely believe I'm going to throw my money on a fire for them, I would have bought nearly every item there if they were permanent. ;

Same. ; I would actually equip stompers if I could make them permanently invisible. x_x I hate looking at them and personally I don't find the stat bonus worth their appearance. ; Hopefully the clear item would be omni-character like the band-aid, which I bought to cover up masks. ;

I adore my schoolgirl Elesis. ;_; My computer started refusing to load it right as the sailor outfits came out. ;
