On Friday May 4,2012 Adam MCA Yauch passed on. Adam is most known as a founding member of the "Beastie Boys". He from died salivary gland cancer. While I may be showing my age here,I remember hearing the "Beastie Boys" growing up and enjoyed their music. They told me " Don't Sleep Till Brooklyn". Well, my friend it seems we've arrived... Rest in peace.

Less age than you might think, considering they've been around since just before the 80s.

15 year old me spent a good portion of yesterday broken up, some old CDs suddenly back in rotation. There's a couple bands that defined a large portion of adolescent experience, and a couple albums. Hello Nasty is one of those. I remember those parties, those people and that time. It's a little heartbreaking.

I remember them teaching us many things. Like the virtues of brass monkey, that funky monkey. And that we had to fight for our right to party. It's a sadder world without the guy crying

I was devastated when this news was announced. The Beastie Boys were a key part of my youth and Adam Yauch, MCA, was a big part of that. I can't remember the first time I saw the video for Intergalactic but that video never failed to make me laugh when I saw it. The man had a great eye for using kitsch and cult films as a source for humor and eye catching videos. This of course supplemented his amazing ability to rhyme. More than that though, Yauch was a man who gave back time and time again. He raised awareness for the crimes being committed against the people of Tibet with his Milarepa Fund and Tibetan Freedom concerts. He helped independant film with his Oscilloscope Laboratories which released a wide variety of films and documentaries. It's not just a loss for his family and friends but the people who he touched using the fame that he used to try and better and enrich people's lives. Thank you Mr. Yauch for making my life more interesting and doing so much with what you had.
