I've never liked it. I didn't even know it existed until a friend of mine recently called himself one. The word itself has such a negative connotation.

I agree as well, it's just rude. I don't like it when people call each other tards (guess it comes from the word retard) just because they like something that they don't or is a big fan. It's insulting. I would never call myself that, just like I would never call myself an otaku.
