Eh I never had this problem with my parents, I usually listen to music at a good setting, when it gets to loud it distorts everything.

Whenever I go back to see my family its usually the other way around. My dad almost always has something on his ipod dock loud. And its always either amazing or pisses me off. Mostly amazing, but his recent period of classical music love is taxing.
Personally I just tend to listen on my sennheisers most the time.
