this was something i had written out for bloodmoon as sort of an ending for Reko's path, i had left it open for his returnlater but i hadn't quite decided how. reguardless i'm going ahead and posting it just to get a few reactions.
Reko stopped and put his arm out in front of Hailey as the two of them pushed through the swampy lands, they had finally made it to the place Reko had come there to find. in front of them stood the ruins of what use to be a full fortress, instead now it was several parts of the main building most of it sinking into the swamp land around it. “well we found it… I think… but its so nasty looking, I was expecting a nice castle like the one your friends stay at. But this… ugh.” Hailey said as she pushed Reko’s arm down and stepped around him, only to stop as her foot sunk into the ground. “and why can’t it at least be in a place with solid ground.” Reko ignored her complaining and walked forward, his feet sinking in as he did. “don’t stop moving, this stuff will suck you down if you do.” he stayed moving forward knowing the reality of his statement was more than true the ruins around them a testament to that. Hailey looks out at him as he kept walking then back to the ground, she reached down and touched the ground watching at it squished under her finger. She pouted then stood up. “fine, if you want to go out there then I guess I have to follow.” she crossed her arms then snapped her fingers and her feet lit up for a moment and she started walking, the ground under her not even sinking or squishing as she did so.
Reko had the entrance of the fort on his mind and nothing else. This was the place Alastier had directed them to, and the old witch had told Reko would hold the thing that would rid him of Rubio, but above all the only other living guardian wolf. The entrance to the fort was still standing part ways, part of the old wooden door. That was until Reko brushed past it on his way in, with a loud creak the last hinge holding it in place broke. Reko’s fast reactions kept the thing from falling on him but he looked back to see if Hailey might have been caught, his shoulders dropped as he saw her smiling as him and waving her hand behind the fallen door. “your really fast Bambi, I’m glad I wasn’t under that when it fell.” she giggled then stepped on the door skipping across it onto the solid ground in the fort’s inner walls or what was left of the walls. Turning back around Reko looked to the entrance to the main building, the door was pulled back and had dragged the ground. Only thing was the marks were still fresh and easy to spot, with the ground around it being hard, but the marks still showing fresh dirt. “someone’s here.” almost in reply to Reko’s comment screams started coming from beyond the door, horrific death screams. Reko reached back slipping the old scythe off his back, nothing was going to take him by surprise today. Or at least that’s what he thought. “lets go. We’ve already came all the way we aren’t going to go back just because some screams.” Hailey looks at him weird. “I never said we should go back… I wanna know why they are screaming.” Reko looks back at her, adding another creepy point to the girl’s rising creeper score already. He turned back to the door and put his back to the closed door, peeking in to see if anything was waiting. Instead all that met him was a dark corridor leading down in the fort, and more screams. Reko stayed in the dark corridor for a moment letting his vision adjust so he could see what might come at them, then started making his way down, Hailey following close behind him… humming. The screams seemed to be coming from the doorway at the end of the corridor where there was lot of light coming from it and shadows moving in front of it often. As they got closer a man falls through the opening a look of pure fear on his face, but before he could look up from the ground something pulled him back in the room, a scream of terror following. “he looked happy.” Reko looks back at Hailey who still has the same smile on her face. “you could try to look a little more worried.” “why? I know I’ll be ok, besides… your gonna be the one fighting whatever it is.” Hailey reply with a cute smile. Again Hailey managed to leave Reko worried about what really goes on in that girl’s head. They continued down the steps stopping at the door, the screams only a few feet from the two of them, Reko glances past the door, the sight actually made his heart stop for a moment.
The room was littered with corpses, all in several forms of decay from bones, to freshly slain bodies. The fresh bodies were those of mercenaries, several of them still stood but were now moving very erratically. Only one thing stood above them all, a massive figure clad with old armor and holding two long katanas. An immense power flowed from the figure, his face completely blacked out by the hair falling over his face, only two red eyes came thought. The two blades slammed down splitting through two of the men that had been firing rifles at him, the death of the two men had given one mercenary the time needed to get behind the figure and throw a net oven it. As the net landed over the figure it slammed the two katanas in the ground and let out a massive roar, its evident power growing even more. The net around it disintegrated the rest of it falling to the ground, letting the figure turn to look at the man who had thrown the net. It ripped one blade from the ground and slashed it once, twice then another time. For a moment the man seemed untouched then his body simply slid apart. There were still seven men left when the figure grabbed the second katana. “I TIRE OF THIS. YOU HAVE PROVIDED NO CHALLENGE.” the figure’s voice was immense and almost shook the room. “NOW REST WITH THE ANCIENTS.” it crossed the blades to its side then slashed outwards with them, from nowhere a wind whips forth and disrupts everything in the room. The only difference from normal wind was when the men in the room were suddenly ripped apart, almost like the wind itself had been bladed. Now the room was quiet. “THE ANCIENTS WILL CONTINUE TO SLEEP THIS DAY.” the figure slid the two blades into the cases at its side and turned around, walking back to a stack of bones that had been piled up, and sat on them. It waited for a moment then looked from the ground to the door. “COWER IN FEAR IF YOU MUST BUT DO NOT DO IT BEHIND A DOOR.”
Reko swallowed hard knowing this meant it knew he was here, then slowly stepped out from the door, hoping the men who had just been slaughtered had been there to fight in the first place. As he stepped in the door way, it was suddenly slammed shut behind him knocking him into the room. “dame girl.” he said thinking Hailey had knocked him in, but his answer came when he heard Hailey pound on the door. “Bambi! Are you ok? You aren’t dead already are you?” her comment sounded as if she had no belief that he would win if they came to a fight, but his mind was quickly taken off Hailey as the figure stood up again. “WHO NOW STANDS BEFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE WOLVES?” this figure spoke with such power if left even Reko a little worried about who future. “I’m not here for the council… I’m here for the guardian wolf that is suppose to-” the figure cuts him off with his voice. “WHO STANDS BEFORE THE COUNCIL!” Reko quickly answered now. “Reko Howitz. Though the Howitz pack no longer exist.” there is a long moment of silence between the two of them. “YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE COME HERE.” now Reko was choosing his words carefully. “I have to find the last guardian wolf and get rid of-” “YOU HAVE FOUND THE GUARDIAN WOLF, BUT THE GUARDIAN WOLVES WILL NEVED EXIST AGAIN.” Reko couldn’t accept this, even from a creature as fear inducing as this. “I must return the guardian wolves to their past status!” now came a surprise more than the figure that stood before him, it slowly shrank down, its muscles fading and the armor falling away. Now a man stood before Reko, his black coat flowing with the power that now came from the man. His black spiked hair looking much like Reko’s. “I am Vale Heartstorm. And you Reko… should have never come here.” “but I need your help. You’re the only one who can help me get right of Rubio.” Vale sighed and raised a hand to his head. “you don’t remember…” Reko thought for a moment the man was going to reveal something about Rubio that would help. “what were the last words we exchanged?” Reko looked confused, he had never met this man before how could he remember anything that had said before this. “I think you have me confused wit-” “I’ll refresh your memory then.” before Reko could reply or even think Vale was gone. Vale’s movement was so fast Reko had not seen him rush forward and kick him across the face till he was slammed into the wall.
A young Reko pulled at the arm of an older wolf, he didn’t want to leave his ______ if he was forced to go with this man all he knew would be lost now. He pulled again as his ______ turned away from him. “no! _____ !” as he took off running Reko slipped his arm out of the man’s grasp and rushed after his ______. Just as the young Reko was getting close he grabbed the cloke.
Reko came out of the flashback looking down, the cloke the boy had grabbed was the one Reko now wore. But he was pulled back from the cloke by Vale standing over him.
Reko’s ______ stood over him now. “boy… we will NOT meet again… if we do…”
Reko looked up at the man hearing the next words like he had heard them so many years ago. “… I will kill you.” Reko’s eyes went wide, realizing the connection.
Hailey stood with her ear to the door listening to the words, but her eyes were not looking forward, they were glazed over and looked like smoke as she listened to the words, and saw the next three seconds of what was to come. Then suddenly her mouth dropped and she lost he breath. Her eyes cleared quickly and she started banging on the door. “REKO! Get out of there!” she could already see what he wasn’t going to make it out. “Reko!”
Vale’s foot shot up and connected with Reko’s chin and knocked him up in the air, the distinctive sound of a sword slidding from its sheath rang in Reko’s ears, even though he was barely alert he felt the blade slam into his chest, slashing and cutting skin, then he felt his back slam into the wall, the blade would sheer him in half. Reko’s hand barely held the blade back even though it was still an inch into his chest. “Sable trained you well…” then another sound of a sword leaving its sheath came, only as the sound came so did the blade, its tip going through Reko’s chest above the first blade, and through Reko’s heart. Reko looked down slowly at the two blades stuck into him, then back up to the man who had made good on his promise from so many years ago. Reko tried to say something but blood was the only thing that came from his mouth, he coughed and spat blood on Vale who only looked away from him. Finally Reko managed a word. “f-fath-er.” “I’m sorry son… you shouldn’t have come.” Vale took the sword that was cut across Reko’s chest and slid it across, opening Reko’s chest even more. Reko coughed up more blood then hung his head, his eyes loosing their color as he slowly faded.
“Reko! Reko! You can’t die! I still need you! Reko! Reko!” Hailey was crying out now, banging on the door harder than ever, there was no childish look, or light humming in her voice only the desperate need to get through that door. She stepped back and gritted her teeth, her eyes started to glow as she snapped her fingers. A dark flame covered her hands and she held them out. “I can’t let you die!” black flames pound into the door shattering into nothing as they hit, she raises her other hand and snaps her fingers making black electricity crackle over them. “you still have Rubio in you! I have to kill him first!” her voice now seemed to be taking on a demonic sound to it as she brought her hands together and the two elements merge, the fire crackling with electricity. It impacted with the door cracking all the stone walls around her and shifting the entire corridor but the door that kept her from Reko held firm.
Vale took the sword impaling his son to the wall and removed it. Reko sliding down the wall and crumpling to the ground. even thought Vale had just killed his only son, there was no emotion in his eyes, no sadness, no anger, nothing. He glanced back to the door Reko had come in through and heard the efforts of Hailey scoffing at her meager attempts. “the ancients have another sleeper to keep them company. May my son rest in peace.” Vale placed the swords back in their place and walked over to one pile of bones, it only took a deadly look for the bladed winds to come back and shatter all the bones clearing them from a doorway. He opened the door and started to walk through stopping only to look back at the door that was now shaking as Hailey was throwing even more at it. “they will tire soon, and I must converse with the ancients.” he turned back to the dark corridor and closed the door behind him
For one last time Reko found himself standing before his life. Watching what looked like a movie but this one had taken on a personal touch. First and foremost was the most recently revealed moment, his father leaving him behind, to stay with the howitz pack leader Sable, it was now clear why Reko had removed that oment from his memory. Followed by the kind face of a young Kayla, the first person to leave a good impression on the wolf. Kayla was soon replaced by Reko’s first rival… Sid, a short lived Rival. The memory was quickly replaced by his first hunt, one that left him alone in a vampire’s gathering place and released the wrath that had passed down from his father. Reko’s next moment was the day he finally dawned his father’s cloke, the one he had stolen from his father’s back the last time they met. The next was a bit odd for Reko to be recalling, it was Kayla taking the pack from Sable, how many time he had tried to barge in only to be outpaced by the two of them. Then the dreaded memory of the pack’s split, that dark night had become so clear now, every face revealed and detailed now, many not lasting long against Reko’s blade. Then the many miles that followed were empty ones, and silent. Just like most of his life had been. The next memory made Reko feel like there was still a little life left, even if there wasn’t. it was Kairi. The night they had met, just just as it had come it was over and now the moment Reko made the pact with the devil Rubio played. The last moment everyone had been together was when they had returned to Alexandra’s castle, the night Reko turned to play the role of betrayal. Atticus’ battle was quick, and the final moments of his at the hand of Reko were even quicker. Now again Reko was left with silent long memories, till Hailey showed up. It was hard to watch the reunion between the once, and only love he had ever had, Kairi’s harsh words were all he deserved in his mind. Shorty after the last few seconds of his life played again, as father and son meet for the first and last time. Now there was nothing, only white, that white soon grew to a blinding light that left Reko unable to feel himself anymore. But a voice soothed him as everything started to go away. “come Reko…. Lets go home now.” even though he didn’t feel himself he knew he had taken someone’s hand, only as a child now. The young Reko looked up at the beautiful woman with blond curles as his lip quivered. “m-m- mama….” with that the child threw himself into his mother’s dress and cried. “that’s right Reko. You can let it out. Its all over now.” Reko found peace there in his mother’s arms.
