Article: Hideo Kojima talks Star Trek and Smash Bros. at MGS Event

Although the article is mostly about the Metal Gear series itself, the interviewer from Destructoid does get around to asking about why Solid Snake is in Super Smash Bros. Brawl:

----

"Naturally, when a popular character evolves that much, it tends to becomes iconic. However, it was Kojima's own son that wondered why his father's protagonist wasn't selectable in a game they often played together, Super Smash Bros. His son said to him, "There is no character that YOU made in that game!" Kojima took that notion to heart and decided to approach Nintendo to add the character to the next iteration of the fighter. "Even though we did make Twin Snakes for them, there hasn't been a lot of Metal Gear on Nintendo platforms, so from my perspective, I thought it was a good way to expose younger people to this character of Snake. I'm actually good friends with the developer of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and I talked to him about this possible idea of including Snake, even though it had at that point been primarily associated with PlayStation. It was a little difficult, but I was lucky that he allowed me to actually put Snake in the game."

Interesting, but does this mean Snake will be able to participate in SSB4? Since he wasn't a clone an was integrated into the Subspace Emissary story, I don't see why he should be removed, but he should have his moveset and costumes tweaked a bit. Like, the should change his Final Smash from the helicopter thing, to him calling in Rex and unleashing a barrage upon the other players. Or, he could switch with Raiden for a set period of time. Eh, whatever...

Since Metal Gear Solid 2 was the most recent MGS on a Nintendo console, I'm sure his costume is going to stay in tact. I bet we'll see a Metal Gear on a 3DS or Wii U soon. Kojima is the weirdo who can do something very different with the Wii tablet or the 3D.

I might be being a bit cynical on this article, but I feel this was very selfish of Kohima to ask for Solid Snake to be in the game. He wanted to show him off to younger audiences, which is okay, but he still hasn't made a Metal Gear game for a Nintendo console since.

Actually, "MGS: Snake Eater 3D" was the most recent game on a Nintendo System. I'm assuming you follow the 3DS? It has a demo, and granted it's a remake, but it's still optimized for the 3DS. Now on a console, It was the remake of MGS 1, "Twin Snakes". Now, the fact that he hasn't made a new one is because Snake's story has ended (Supposedly).

(A brief list of Metal Gear games on Nintendo Systems:
Metal Gear - NES
Snakes Revenge - NES
Ghost Babel - GBC
Twin Snakes - GC
Snake Eater 3D - 3DS)

I think that about wraps up the entirety of Nintendo Based MGS games...
