We have concocted an idea based on a woman, April Ebrius, who was out drinking and celebrating her anniversary with her husband Roland Ebrius. This, of course, leads to a crash in which she is sent into a coma.
The game starts with a black screen, a loud scream proceeded by a quick flashing scene of two cars crashing head on. The scene quickly changes to a hospital setting with our main character waking up rubbing her head. She cannot be seen, perhaps just a silouhette behind a one way viewing surface, but the female surgeon makes her presence known saying in a muffled, mascule sounding voice “Good you are awake. You've been asleep for some time now.” Confused, taking everything in all too fast, you merely ask, “What? Where am I?” The surgeon wastes no time in addressing simply, “All in due time. Now, stand up and let's see how you're feeling...” This brings us to the tutorial, in which a nurse enters and now faces you with learning simple combat commands against a simple, familiar creature. Upon its defeat, you enter the halls only to be confronted by a large mix of nurses, and a monster we simply call The Driver. They vary with personalized appearance, some having severed limbs, some having a cracked open skull. Regardless, they appear as though one would having been pulled from a horrible car accident.
This monster has IV's drooping down and around its entire body, a single IV pouch on its back. A strong blow to the back or a single shot could rupture this weak point, bringing the monster down that much quicker. Each of these personalized creatures could attack in a variety of ways. Some of shards of glass still stuck in their arms, creating an almost razor-like club. Some, with shattered limbs, may have sharp protruding bones or bone fragments for even greater puncture and ripping motions. This quickly becomes a fight or flight moment, depending on the players difficulty and experience. However you choose to dispatch this problem, the winding halls and corridors will lead to the Surgeon's office. Locking the door behind you, you find a set of papers on her desk claiming your husband, who had been driving with you the last thing you could remember, had been discharged earlier. A special note is drawn up at the bottom requesting you two could not be allowed to see each other until all treatments were complete, and that you were required to leave the hospital as soon as you were discharged.
The last thing you want to do is exit the way you came in, and so descending a fire escape outside the window, you find yourself standing in, but unaware of, your location of Silent Hill. And my friends, you have just escaped the infamous Brookhaven Hospital, a nice touch to the good old original places. Upon leaving this place, you notice a wrecked car, the front all busted up with blood on the windshield. As you are examining it, the town drunk walks up behind you and says, “Drunk driver... I don't know who, but they said she was drinkin' at the time...” To this your player can only ask, “What happened to the person who got hit?” The drunkard replies, “Dunno.... Maybe they're dead, maybe not. I don't really remember.” Your character asks, “I'm looking for someone, my husband. He's about my height, blonde hair, athletic in build.” The drunk looks off for a moment and replies, “I can't say that I recall, but a fella came through a moment ago. Gave me the money to buy this drink and headed off towards Heaven's Night down the street.” Turning around to thank the drunk for his help, you find yourself alone surrounded by fog.
You now head off to Heaven's Night in search of your husband, or perhaps the man who could help you find him. Upon passing an alleyway, you hear the loud crash of trash cans and take notice of two brutish creatures actually fighting EACH OTHER. These creature walks as if heavily intoxicated, wearing a tattered shirt with vomit down the front. I say brutish due to the common knowledge drunk people to tend to be rougher and significantly stronger. Sometimes these creatures can also carry a bottle in their hand to hit with 2-3 times before it breaks, becoming a very dangerous stabbing weapon. In many instances, the face is covered with nurse-style bandages with a tuft of hair poking out. This creature, as it shirt would imply, can spray its vomit towards you in an attempt to knock your character off balance, much like the ash-spray attack from homecoming or the volatile spray from the 2nd game.
At last, one stands the victor turning his attention towards you. After a rather tedious, painful fight you manage to make your way, dodging monster fights left and right, to Heaven's Night, yet another reminiscent place for players of 2 and 3. Walking around, you find your husband's wallet lying on a table in the middle of the room. As soon as you pick it up, the room is suddenly bursting with life as townsfolk occupy the chairs at the various tables. Some are gambling, some drinking it up, and others watching a rather seductive woman on the stage (who bears a striking resemblance to Maria from Silent Hill 2 if you have the HD collection installed on your console.) April tries to get responses from anyone, but they all act as if she doesn't exist. In a fit of blind rage, April throws a bottle against the wall at which point all music stops playing, and everyone now stares intently at her with empty eyes. Black smoke rolls from their eyes and mouth filling the room and choking April. You then gain control of your character as the bar is now on fire and all the people are brawlers. Many of these are focused on fighting themselves in what could only be described as a classic bar-fight. As you make your escape, a few will turn their attention to you throughout the endevour which you must dispense.
At last you make it out of Heaven's Night into a back alleyway, but this trip is far from done. This alleyway leads to a puzzle. A complex network of alleyways, some with information, some with monsters, and some just a leg of the journey, branch out before you with dense fog at each end. The goal of this puzzle, as you would expect, is to figure out the pattern in which you are being sent through each exit. You know you have completed the puzzle when you find yourself at a door leading into a super market. Upon entering, you find all the lights are out but a single row of transparent refrigerators along the back wall. You walk closer, examining the contents of each one as the camera pans from the far right moving left. Eventually you see a pack of beer slide off the shelf in one of the fridges, exposing the face of a Brawler on the other side. Before you really have a chance to register what you've seen, a hand shoots for busting the glass door grabbing your shirt.
Once you've shaken yourself free, the creature we met is joined by two others who begin to relentlessly assault you. These creatures will continue to come until your health is near nothing, seeming an almost impossible mission. As your health begins to show almost nothing, your screening blinking a bright, vivid red, the monsters grab one limb each and its up to you to perform the right steps to proceed. If you successfully complete the steps, there will be a strobe light effect and right as the monsters seem to be ripping your limbs off entirely, the screen will go black. Lights will flicker and you find yourself standing in front of unbroken fridges, the rest of the store lit up now. A voice from behind calls out, “Hey lady, you buyin' or leavin'? I'm expecting a large crowd today.” Turning around, there is now a clerk behind the counter. You apologize for the intrusion and head for the front door only to be stopped when the clerk speaks again. “Hey you aren't uhhh.... April Ebrius are ya?” You stop, confused how he knows your name, and reply, “Yea but how did you-.” Cut off, the man speaks again saying, “Yea I got a note here for you. Lady who dropped this off was in a hurry, so I am guessing it was pretty important.” You take the note, reading it up close. You notice the note is completely blank and it is written on hospital stationary with a smiley face stamp at the bottom. As soon as you are done reading the world begins to change to the Otherworld.
When you turn back around the clerk is nowhere to be seen, and April looks down to examine the note in her hand once more. Only this time, the note is far from blank.... only a picture of the Surgeon pointing behind April, and the smiley face is now frowning with a bandage across its head. At this point, several monsters rush the room at once, and a side door swings open leading to a flight of stairs to a lower level. A chase scene ensues as you are greatly outnumbered and would stand no chance against the oncoming hoard. Running through the cellar leads to a dead end where a rusted door suddenly materializes at the last possible second, opening up to a long tunnel which seems to stretch on forever. At the very end, a hole, similar to the ones found in Silent Hill 2, opens up in the floor. April has no choice at this point but to jump.
A short moment passes of traversing the sewers beneath Silent Hill, and suddenly you come across the town drunk sitting by a garbage can fire. April approaches and says, “Hey, you shouldn't be here right now. There's all these.... things back there.” The drunk merely looks harder into the fire, takes a big swig of his drink and says, “Have you ever done something you wish you could just forget? Like, maybe, murder?” To this your character instantly replies, “What? No, I could never do something like that.” At this point, a moment of silence passes and April realizes and asks, “Have you? Is that why you drink all the time? Just to forget something you did?” At that remark, the old man chuckles and begins walking away. His last words before disappearing round a corner are, “Me? Of course not... I was only looking to have a good time...”
At this point, we are now introduced to a new monster. It has yet to be named, but it resembles the over-emotional condition drunks can fall in. When you first come across it, it is in a state of immense sorrow. The sound of wailing can actually be heard before you ever see the monster. It's appearance has also yet to be determined. It most strongly resembles a person who drinks due to emotional issues, as the last cutscene would imply. When attacked or when you come too close to one, its emotions swing into an almost violent frenzy as it tries everything it can to bring you down. If you were to avoid killing one and got away from its clutches, you would hear its emotions revert back to sorrow.
After being confronted with several of these creatures throughout the sewer system, and perhaps yet another puzzle, you come to a ladder leading out of the sewers. It is at this point you hear the sound of running in the streets behind you. Turning around reveals a man jogging down the street. You call to him and he stops removing his hood. Your first instinct is to call him by your husband's name, as he so closely resembles the look and build of your husband, Roland Ebrius. He glances at you oddly, and you realize it is not your husband who you have been looking for. But the similarity is too striking. A small talk ensues which dialogue has yet to be provided for. His name is Todd Lawrence.
After the meeting with Todd has ended, you as a player are now left standing in the streets of Silent Hill, clueless as to where to go next. If you, as the player, have been paying attention, you will remember the wallet you picked up earlier and will select to open it from your inventory. Inside there will be a flipbook of pictures, mostly of friends and family, but one family member in particular stands out. (This family member is Andrew DeSalvo of Silent Hill 4. I have chosen him because not a lot is known about him, but he lived in Silent Hill. Also, he was a drunk all the time, and so fits perfectly with this theme.) This is but another puzzle to solve, but the answer lies simply in flipping over the picture of this Uncle. Depending on your puzzle difficulty, the address could be fully spelled out, or the street name could be missing several letters (as a gag, the numbers of the address are 1821, as any player of silent hill 4 would know he was victim 18 of 21). Regardless, you head to the house believing that perhaps your husband has gone to his relative's. It's still a cold trail but worth looking into April figures.
Upon arrival, you find the door to be unlocked and head inside to look around. You are free to explore the house as long as wish, finding work uniforms from Water Prison in the closet, and books on Wish House and The Order on a bookshelf. If you investigate the nightstand by the bed, you can find several journal entries noting Andrew's daily life, his job, and one kid in particular who is often caught "coming and going" from Wish House. Eventually April will remark that she is starving, and that Andrew should have no problem if she grabbed something to eat from the fridge. When you open the fridge (as Andrew was often very drunk), every shelf is lined with booze bottles. The caps burst off and a constant, fast stream of liquid begins to fill the room. Next the faucet begins to flow as well. Eventually April is completely submerged in the liquid as an otherworld change occurs. With the changes comes a drain which clears the room of all liquid, but you are now in an unfamiliar setting with extremely blurred and dizzy vision and the controls are inverted. Monsters are attacking you and things are jumping out at you as you try to run your way through the twisting maze of stairs, hallways, and rooms. Eventually you come to a dead end room, monsters closing in on you fast. April blacks out instantly, falling to the floor.
Awakening in a forest, she is now lying beside the town drunk next to a fire. Sitting up and rubbing her head, she asks "What happened?" The drunk replies, "Not sure, but you was running through the streets and into the woods screaming something awful." To this April can only reply, "Running through the.... streets?" The drunk takes a big swig and nods his head, staring deep into the fire. April then asks, "Well, how can I find my way back to town?" The drunk only points a finger towards a trail leading to a boat shored by Toluca Lake. The fire flickers out and when April looks back over the Drunk has disappeared. You now get to perform a rowboat scene similar to that in Silent Hill 2 across the famous lake.
Crossing the lake, a cutscene occurs of April hearing a splash behind her and looking. As she is looking for the source, the voice of the Drunk comes from the front of the boat and says, “It's just a fish... but folks used to say it was the spirits of the dead.” Confused, April inquires “Spirits of the dead?” The Drunk stares into the distance and replies, “Yep, they say a ship sank here on this very lake some time ago. Took a lot of innocent lives when it went too.” April stares over the boat into the water and says, “That's terrible. I couldn't imagine drowning like that.” The drunk replies, “We all drown in somethin', dear. For couples it's love...” the camera pans over to the Drunk now staring directly at her, “For others, it may be guilt...” He takes a big drink and tosses his bottle in the water. “As for me, it's all about the liquor.” Still staring into the water, April asks, “Why don't you just stop then?” The Drunk looks directly at her again and can only say, “Why didn't you?” At that response, April looks up but the Drunk is now gone. You continue rowing towards the docks despite your confusion to the response.
Fast forwarding to the end of the game, you end up in the Silent Hill junk yard. You traverse several different paths through mountains of trash and wrecked vehicles, performing a couple different puzzles for clearing paths and making new ones. Somewhere in the near distance you hear the sound of a machine clicking on and a cry for help. The voice is unfamiliar to it at first, but suddenly you realize it is Todd, and he is definitely in danger. He is trapped in the busted up car from the beginning of the game, which is now moving down a large escalator belt towards a giant crusher. No matter how fast you run and weave your way through the hills of junk, there are parts where paths will stretch forever, or your character will be stuck running in place as if in a bad dream. It is inevitable what is to come.
You finally come bursting out into the clearing only to find that it is too late. One strong blow and the car is no more, along with Todd Lawrence. You had arrived only in time to see the horrified last look. A look you now remember crossing your husbands face as the flashbacks come over you of the crash you were in before all this happened and of the anniversary and your insistance on driving you both home. Falling to your knees, you pound the side of the crusher blaming yourself for everything. Everything was suddenly making sense, at least to some degree. She comes to a realization though, that Todd was not her husband, and she should not be so quick to give up. For all she knew, she had killed no one and her husband was still out there. As she starts to walk away, the crusher opens up and the cube falls out.
Pieces of old automobiles come together, sparking and spewing oil everywhere forming a sort of automaton.... a first for any creature we have yet to face in Silent Hill, but nonetheless eerie, very creepy, and very much alive. This magnificently horrendous being squeals and grinds with every step it takes, mismatched parts clanking together unevenly. Where the head should be sits the cube from the crusher, the horrified face frozen in place on the surface of the box staring at you. One hand is just a giant fan made of radiator fan blades, the other a spear like weapon formed from an axle. The fight itself is very similar to that of Scarlett in that as you hit the automaton, pieces of metal break off exposing blood bone and flesh beneath the cold metal exterior. The whole time, this being is screaming at you “Why did you let this happen?!” “What has happened to me?!” “I thought you care about me, who lets this happen?!” Essentially just yelling insults and things to make April feel worse.
When the fight has completed, you are in desperate need for answers. You can only think to go back to Brookhaven to find the Surgeon and demand the answers you seek. So you end up fighting your way back to the hospital, making your way through an almost unfamiliar setting within the hospital, to find yourself standing within an enlarged operation room with only a single bright light shining on you. The Surgeon begins to talk cryptically from behind yet another screen, hardly making sense for all the effort you went through. April instantly begins to take her frustration out on the Surgeon as she enters from the screen room and the big fight at the end begins. The Surgeon, a figure with a long black operating coat, fights with a large syringe which, when injected, makes an extremely blurry and wavy effect on your screen. The other hand holds a large scalpel. After you have successfully weakened the Surgeon, it falls to one knee and cries out, “Why didn't I stop?!” At hearing her own voice from this being, your character falters from delivering the final blow and asks, “What?” To which the Surgeon stands and responds, “I am not your enemy here, April. After all I've done to help you realize and get better, you still don't see yourself for what you REALLY are.”
A sort of possession scene follows, and when the screen fades from black you are now standing as the Surgeon, seeing yourself as it saw you. The actual monster appearance of April has yet to determined and still needs development. You finish the fight as the Surgeon and whether you kill the monster or die results in a different ending along with the rest of your gameplay.
This is all of the main story we have so far, and we are looking for all recommendations and ideas for anything I listed above that was undetermined or undesigned. Also, we need more story between meeting Todd Lawrence in the street and the junk yard scene. More bosses, more puzzles, and more information as to what happens in Heaven's Night is needed. Any sort of historical or accurate canon connections we could make would be LOVED, as I am sure we miss that from the old games. Also there should be several notes and documents scattered around. Details as to the places listed can be changed or added as well. POST EVERYTHING BELOW!!!!
ENVIRONMENT:
For the most part, we know many of the MAJOR roads will be broken off like in previous installments, and heavy fog will as always be necessary. Minor roads that are blocked off will most likely be done so with wrecked cars and yellow tape similar to most crash sites. Also there will be lots of empty alcohol containers throughout the buildings and streets as a minor touch of this story and its effect on the town.
EASTER EGGS:
We have also come up with several easter eggs that the fans would probably enjoy. For one, if you have the HD collection installed on your system, you can find Heather's clothes in a bathroom in Heaven's Night. This unlocks Heather's clothes as an alternate costume for playthrough.
Another Easter Egg is one of the alleyways during the alleyway puzzle has a poster at the far end of it that reads “Have you seen this little girl?” with a torn up picture, but serving as reference to the first game.
There is also a hole in the wall somewhere that you can climb through and it takes you to Bar Ashfield from Silent Hill 4. Inside, there are transparent versions of Henry Townshend and the slugs on the walls and floor. This is suppose to serve as though wandering into an alternate universe and all roland can say is “What the hell?” You can also find a rusty ax sitting on a bar stool for you to take.
There is also a jukebox in Heaven's Night which allows you to flip through several hit songs from previous games.
MINI GAME:
There are several beer cans scattered on barrels throughout the game you can shoot or hit off the barrel. Each one you hit or shoot off unlocks a piece of artwork.
DLC:
There is a mini-game you can download that enables you to play as Pyramid head from Silent Hill 2. You are in a prison full of those who feel the need to be punished, and each round you must successfully kill a certain number of these prisoners. If you fail to do so, the game ends and your hi-score is posted.
This is all we have so far, and we are currently looking for all of your input to make this game something that we all want! I am awaiting a call back from Konami, and when they call I am going to try hard to convince them to look into our idea. SO PUMP OUT THE IDEAS biggrin This could be the best thing our guild ever does!
