You want to start small with your first tattoo, which you seem to have done. Good good.
You also don't want some placement that's easily seen, or not easily covered up by clothing. Tattoos can and will limit your future job choices, or even your eligibility for promotions, etc. So that's something to think about as well.
Foot tattoos are said to be some of the most painful. Anywhere that's close to bone, has thin skin, or sensitive skin will be more painful that more meaty areas, with tougher skin.
I've got leopard rosettes on my sides. They're among my favorite tattoos so far. They're super cute every time I see them, on myself or other people, so I highly recommend them.
