Lydia Cross Dune eventually gave up and headed to the pokemon center himself for some lunch. The center was more full than he expected. Probably for some party they were expecting from the pokemon fan club house. Where some people might get excited about someone having the same cooking grill or car, the poke-fans got ecstatic about someone having the same pokemon as them, or one they wanted. Though, hardly anyone ever gave him any advice about the gym leader. It seemed like most of the trainers avoided whoever it was. Taking a seat, he bumped into someone, having taken a chair next to him in the cluttered space. "Hey! Watch it!" He retracted his elbow, looking at a pathetically skinny girl with a blank expression on her face. "Hey, it's you again!"
"We keep kinda running into each other," Lydia smiled obliviously.
Dune growled. How could anyone be so dense? "You and I are going to battle, and that's final!"
"Do we have to right now? I'm really hungry."
Dune stopped, his finger pointed right at her and stopping just short of her dumb face. A wide frown filled his own face as he though about what he wanted more: A battle, or lunch. "Okay, we can eat first," He said begrudgingly.
Lydia had already began to ignore him. The girl from cycling road had brought up her spirits, and she was determined not to lose them so easily. As she munched down on the first bite of a sloppy joe burger, Voltz nibbling on its pokemon food, she pulled up her pokegear to search for a rout out of town. She had settled on Eidolon Town, but if Climate Town proved to have an easier rout then it wouldn't bother her to change plans. "There's a road that stretches around a mountain to Climate Town, so it sounds pretty hard to get to. But the road to Eidolon isn't much better. It's almost twice as long and goes way around this forest. There's gotta be a way to just cut through instead," She muttered before picking up her messy burger for another bite. "Besides, we can catch more pokemon if we go through the forest instead. And forest pokemon should know their way around, right?" She looked over at her pikachu, too preoccupied to listen in.
Dune couldn't take it. What was she up to? What was so much more important than battling? "Seriously, what are you doing?" He leaned over. He couldn't stand not knowing.
"The nearest gym," Lydia said a little awkwardly with Dune hanging over her. "I heard that these two gyms were the best for beginners, so I'm still trying to decide."
"Begginer?" He gave a sly look. "Thant's why you didn't accept my challenge! A rookie like you wouldn't stand a chance against me." He sat down, waving his hand dismissively. Lydia's face change, becoming both insulted and curious. "I bet you can't even beat one of the easiest gyms. So I don't blame you."
"That's not it!" Lydia roared. "I could win a pokemon battle against you any day of the week! Any battle, any place, any time!"
"Prove it!" They stared each other down. Voltz looked back and forth between the two before sighing and returning to its own lunch. "First one to finish their lunch!"
"Done!" They started their eating battle. And by the end, it was hard to tell who's face had more lunch on them than in them. Both slammed down their hands and bowls, proclaiming that they had won, but unsure of who it actually was that won.
"I won!"
"No, I won!"
"I won, and you know it!"
"You did not!"
"Did so!"
"Did not!"
