Hi. I have been in marching band since high school. I was both PIT and cymbals for those four years. However, I did not sign up for auditions for college marching band because I wasn't sure how I was going to ajust to my first quarter at college.
Now that I am two quarters in, I am thinking about joining the marching band as a cymbal player. The problem I am having is that I am not sure if I should even try out, the program is hard to get into, because I have played for a year in a marching band setting and my skilled have diminished slightly.
I was wondering if there are any percussionists in college who had a opinion on what I should do.

I think you should definitely join! At least find out how the audition process goes. Cymbals aren't generally that difficult, and if you've played them in high school, you should be able to play them at a college level. My opinion is that it's a lot more interesting in college. In high school, it's mostly crash here, then click on two and four for most of the song. But in college, at least at bigger schools, you have more crashes, siz-ups, tings, zings, and so on. It'd be a lot more fun.
