I have two predictions about who Amon might be. My first prediction is that Amon was mentally scared as a child. His parents were probably killed by benders and he grew up with hate for them. Maybe he wears the mask to symbolize something unique to himself, or he just wears it because of some deformity in his face that may have been caused by benders. Either way one thing is certain, he hates benders for some major reason that is either personal or he see's some sort of logic to the 'revolution' he obviously causes.

The second prediction is that Amon is Fire Lord Ozai. I know, I know it sounds crazy but if you really think about it, in the last season of ATLA Aang didn't kill the Fire Lord. He took his bending away. He was taught an ancient technique by a giant lion turtle. Aang successfully performed the technique and took his fire bending. Now lets head over to Amon's back story, or at least what we know so far. Amon is the leader of the 'Equalists'. A growing army that consists of non-benders and wants to rid the world of benders. He wears a mask to conceal his identity and as far as we know he is not a bender himself. Ok so basically my big point here is that maybe when Aang locked his chakara and took fire lord ozai's bending away he might of did something to locked the aging process. They both have an extreme amount of things in common but the thing that is most appealing to me is the fact that they both want to "promte " their "kind". The Promise part 2 is not coming out anytime soon but it's still going to tell the events that took place after the war ended. We'll know if this prediction of mine is even close to their source material when it comes out.

If you have any predictions about who Amon might be feel free to tell us...

I think that would be too far fetched to be Ozai. I mean, if it is Ozai I would be COMPLETELY surprised and love the show even more than I do now. I don't think that anyone could be so powerful as to stop the aging process. If Aang did do that, they would have figured it out by now and would have taken extreme measures to make sure he was contained.

My idea on who Amon might be is very complex. I think that he is a Earthbender or Firebender. As a child he grew up in the streets of Republic City and was the son of two Non-Benders who ran a little shop. He was proud about being a bender at the time but when he was 9 years old or so, his parents were killed by a gang of benders in the city and he was badly disfigured because of the attack. Once this happened he realized how arrogant benders were and how they looked down upon the Non-Benders like his parents; naturally he was ashamed of his bending powers and hide them. The older he got the more developed his hatred towards benders became. The rest I'm not sure of but this is my idea. razz

In the ATLA comic "The Promise part 1" there are many fire nation colonists whom don't want to leave their colony and felt Ozai is better than Zuko, which is why I think Amon has such a dislike for bending because he was probably raised by people whom were followers to Ozai or disliked Avatar Aang and Fire Lord Zuko's conversion of the Fire Nation colonies to Republic City.

The whole hared of benders and "benders oppress us" probably comes from when Aang used the Avatar state to control a situation and Amon saw it in a bad light ( causing disfiguration?!?), and also why not one type of bending has been singled out.

Amon wearing the mask might show how he idolized the Blue Spirit, and the way that the Blue Spirit didn't use bending to go against those whom oppressed earth kingdom citizens ( Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom Soldiers). Amon probably does not know Zuko was the Blue Spirit, because Zuko never revealed he was to anyone and only Aang and Zhao knew of his dual identity.

Since we've yet to have any clues or implications on who Amon might be, these are PURE guesses I think would be cool but almost totally know aren't true.

When all the info was revealed at Comic-Con I did make the guess it was Ozai. Again, just for fun guess, didn't think it would be canon. (especially now because of the different voice actors) My theory was that Ozai escaped prison and completely disappeared, no one could find him. He used meditation methods like Guru Pathik used to live a long time. He wants to take down benders for two reasons: he feels oppressed by the Avatar, and he feels that if he can't bend, no one should be able to.

Another guess I have is that Amon is a SON of Ozai. Aang not only removed Ozai from power but he took away his bending. After Ozai was sent to prison he had an affair with a female prison guard, who may have also helped him escape and settle down somewhere. Amon grew up angry at the Avatar for taking away his father's bending power (and thus taking away any chance that he, Amon, could've inherited it) and for taking away his chance of being in royalty.

I'll make up some new crazy theories as we get more evidence and information.

Eh, I can't see Amon as admiring the Blue Spirit, since the Blue Spirit did aid the Avatar and as far as the public was concerned, he was on the Avatar's side.

Eh, it's no issue. But we can keep figuring out why he does wear the mask. Maybe he's a powerful and well-known man who believes in his anti-bender cause but doesn't want to hurt his public image, so he wears the mask and goes under the name Amon. Or, it could simply be anonymity. I imagine that many of the anti-benders would be criminals, having his face out there would easily put Amon up for arrest.

I think Amon learned Aang's technique on how to lock someones chakara and take away there bending! He has his thumb on someone's forehead in this TV Spot and it looks a duplicate to Aang Taking away Ozai's bending. Pause at 0:34

As incredibly far fetched as this is, I think it could be the cabbage merchant's son. Think about it. Whenever the cabbage merchants cabbages were destroyed the Avatar or some other bender was present and in some way responsible (or atleast most of the times). The cabbage merchant grew to hate the Avatar and benders blaming his lack of sucess on them. His son saw his fathers turmoil, and decided benders didn't care who's lives they ruined. SOOO he became Amon.........fun to think about. I really doubt this is the case, but it was one of my first wildly fun theories.

I think that might be jossed, according to the Korra webpage, the Cabbage Merchant was very successful and started a company called "Cabbage Corp".

At the moment, my current serious guess is that he has no connection to any of the characters in the first show.

Okay, so this is pretty much a long shot, but putting the fact that he can take people's bending away to the side, I think it's most believable that he is Maku and Bolim's dad. It is very far fetched but Maku did say that a firebender cut down his parents. And Amon said that a firebender scared his face and so now he has to wear that mask. So because of that experience Amon has come to hate benders. To be honest I don't know how he learned to take people's bending away and all that, but this just seems to fit for me.

He might be connected to the man Aang defeated 42 years ago. as per Talok.
