Skyler Sterling, born human, into an age-long tradition among the spirits. The biggest problem for her is that her family had long given up the shamanist ways, living in a more modern time, but she had been born with the natural affinity to the spirits, something her parents had never expected. Her brother, not so much, but he held so much fascination with his sister, if she was leaving to go anywhere, they couldn't separate the two.
What other solution did they have but to send her and her brother away from the city she hated so, and live with her aunt and uncle in Mundus Magicus, in the city-state of Ariadne for a temporary amount of time. She was even enrolled into the academy shortly, where she picked up her weapons training and combat knowledge, despite her narcolepsy disorder. She even joined a cadet squad in training, as second in command. She even came home sometimes, and told her little brother Dakota about what she learned, even teaching him moves himself since he so much wanted to learn how to at least fight a little bit, while her aunt and uncle taught her all they could about their ways of shamanism, and the ways they managed to apply it to magic. She was most importantly taught a very important main ability, that her bloodline could pull off very well, but could never use it unless she had absolutely no other choice.
What pushed her move back to her parents, away from Ariadne, are the bad memories of a single incident that led to her current situation. She was sent on an assignment mission with her squad, her brother secretly attending along with them, since they seemed perfectly fine with it. By then she was 14, and he was 13, she was given the responsibility of watching him carefully. The mission was supposed to be simple. An extermination of a low class demon troubling a nearby household. Pretty good daily assignment for the girls. The mistake is underestimating a reported demon as being weak. As it turns out, the demon was much stronger than it appeared, known for putting on a weakened appearance until truly threatened, and then revealing itself to be an A class shadow beast, not something the girls could handle at their levels. It didn't take horribly long for the demon to ground the girls, and Dakota, and make them realize they were way over their heads.
The only source of details of the incident were given by Skyler the following day after the attack, and only once to the authorities, and Seras herself. After that, Skyler didn't speak of it. She was found by herself, the bodies of Dakota, and her three squadmates, missing. When she explained why, it was a remarkably controversial thing amongst Ariadne, as well as her guardians, even though they understood that she had no other choice. The shadow beast would have killed them, it would have consumed them, things no one deserved to live through. Skyler had used her technique. Capturing the souls, the very spirits, of all four others, she trapped them within her shaman magic, trapping them all in a safe state just when their death was imminent, where the shadow demon could not finish them off. Shortly after this incident, eventually forgiven and dropped by the authorities of Ariadne, as well as passed by her guardians, she was sent back to Mundus Vetus, under the condition she could not continue her cadet training any longer.
And so back on Earth, Skyler lives with her parents again, and finds herself in Japan while they go on a long-term business trip. She now attends Mahora, employable as a personal body guard, as a student in Mahora, and a shaman who carries with her, the spirits of her old friends and her little brother, which she is still able to summon if she needs them. She seems to be long forgiven by them since she had to do it, but she still has to wonder...
Personality:
Skyler is viewed as odd. Maybe it could be the fact most of the time she looks like she's talking to herself. But in fact as a spiritual medium, probably isn't really talking to herself. She's respectful to those she should be respectful to, in fact, including the spirits of the dead (unless she knows them personally). elderly, and in general people of respect. However amongst her peers, she's a little rough. She's honest with her opinions, while not bluntly so, if she feels like you should know something about yourself, she's going to tell you. She's friendly, but only subtly so, and only after some time of knowing you.
In closeness, Skyler's not horribly outgoing or comfortable with immediate closeness or forms of friendly intimacy. She gets flustered by it, and sometimes even aggressive or frustrated if she's not listened to about wanting the space. But at the same time if she knows you better and particular finds interest in you or likes you, gets pretty attached to people. She can take command only if she needs to, otherwise prefers it in her middle ground.

Dakota, her little brother, is actually now her animal familiar, due to as stated in her bio, it was the only way to keep him from dying at the hands of his injuries and the shadow demon. Same goes with her old squadmates, however further detail about her familiars' forms is in the combat information.
Skyler suffers from Narcolepsy and Cataplexy both. This is often without warning, as narcolepsy can be, as well as the cataplexy, and onset possibly by sudden emotion. Though, cataplexy is usually immediately followed by narcolepsy causing her to sleep for any amount of time from 5 minutes to hours.
