This idea is taken from a recently released game "Reckoning, Kingdoms of Amalur". Our characters are people of any race that died at some point. Their bodies taken to a place known as "The Well of Souls" where our souls are somehow returned to our bodies. In this world, there are about 6 active wells with this same ability. The game featured four races, but i figured we could go with whatever. Dragonkin (Half dragon), Elf, Human, Dwarf, and even Gnome (For you, Beo.) Of course, there are many other races to choose from.
The idea is simple. You are fateless. Nothing you do is controlled by the strings of fate anymore. Put simply, you have the ability of free choice. Not only that, you can fateshift. An ability that allows you to moves faster, stronger, and better than your opponents. Not only that you, in fateshift mode, can tear someone's fate away from them, essentially deleting everything they would have done otherwise.
This can have repercussions. Say you fateshift a guard who is fated to kill a rapist. That rapist will never be killed by that guard. You basically wipe them off the face of existence.
The downfall to Fateshifting people, besides the repercussions, is that you can't do it very often and have to regain your strength before doing it again. (The way they achieved this via the game was a fate bar. it filled a little everytime you successfully pulled off a combo or a kill. When it was full, you could fateshift again.)
Having been brought back to life, as a fateless one, you can't remember who you are beyond the name you find for yourself. In this case, the scientist that revived you probably named you. You get free choice from there, rise to power? Figure out your past? Help people? Be evil? It's all up to you.
To add to the idea, there is an evil Fae (Immortal elf like creature of magic. The Fae are not choosable characters as when they die, they eventually come back) that has "found a new goddess" named Tirnock that wants to level the earth. Kill everything and leave those that follow her as the "rightful" beings allowed to live.
Any ideas?
