I will soon be posting research and statistics to support my statements, but for now let me just shine a light on this disease. Celiac Disease is an intolerance of gluten and/or wheat. This disease has been cropping up at an alarming rate, and there are little resources for those of us who are allergic/intolerant of wheat products. Adverse reactions due to this intolerance can cause an abundance of other medical conditions, including infertility and asthma. Please do what you can to help me spread awareness throughout Gaia, in hopes that it will influence a change in our society.

I don't remember if it was a show or a magazine that I read it in, but I do remember something about that disease. You are correct, it is starting to affect a lot of people. The good thing is that I hear that the FDA is beginning to (maybe not force) but get companies to make products without gluten/wheat.

I don't know if this is a symptom or not, but I remember one of my old best friends had a lot of bowel issues and she eventually had it checked out. Apparently she ended up with this and these things in her food were causing her to become sick. She has to be on a very strict. specialized diet, and she told me that the specialized foods are more expensive. Though I'm not sure if that part is true or not, I've actually never looked into the foods.

"Celiac Disease can appear at any time in a person’s life. In adults, the disease can be triggered for the first time after surgery, viral infection, severe emotional stress, pregnancy or childbirth. CD is a multi-system, multi-symptom disorder. Symptoms vary and are not always gastrointestinal (GI). GI symptoms can often mimic other bowel disorders.
Infants, toddlers and young children with CD may often exhibit growth failure, vomiting, bloated abdomen, behavioral changes and failure to thrive. CLASSIC SYMPTOMS MAY INCLUDE
Abdominal cramping, intestinal gas Distention and bloating of the stomach Chronic diarrhea or constipation (or both) Steatorrhea – fatty stools Anemia – unexplained, due to folic acid, B12 or iron deficiency (or all) Unexplained weight loss with large appetite or weight gain
OTHER SYMPTOMS
Dental enamel defects Osteopenia, osteoporosis Bone or joint pain Fatigue, weakness and lack of energy Infertility – male/female Depression Mouth ulcers Delayed puberty Tingling or numbness in hands or feet Migraine headaches
SOME LONG-TERM CONDITIONS THAT CAN RESULT FROM UNTREATED CD
Iron deficiency anemia Early onset osteoporosis or osteopenia Vitamin K deficiency associated with risk for hemorrhaging Vitamin and mineral deficiencies Central and peripheral nervous system disorders - usually due to unsuspected nutrient deficiencies Pancreatic insufficiency Intestinal lymphomas and other GI cancers (malignancies) Gall bladder malfunction Neurological manifestations" (Celiac Disease Foundation, 2012)
