I recently started following @CrochetUpdate on twitter, and came across an interesting article. There is a woman, who was an abuse victim, who is working on starting a non profit organization where people meet up once a month, and crochet or knit a scarf to send to a victim of abuse.
90% of the time I find myself crocheting and knitting just to be productive, and have no starting point or end point in the sense that...there is no purpose to my productivity. I would like to see if anyone would be interested in possibly knitting or crocheting a cowl or scarf or something, that could be donated for a cause. Be it Breast Cancer awareness, victims of abuse, or donating to a women's shelter to assist those in need. I just have this desire to turn my mindless, goal-less productivity into something with a purpose.
I am open to suggestions, ideas, anything, because at this point it's ground zero.
I feel that, the person crafting these cowls/scarfs, should be able to create whatever they want. Long thick scarf, short skinny scarf, spiral scarf, whatever floats your boat at that moment. Of course you could always take scrap yarn and toss something together and really make something unique too. It would be up to the individual to get yarn, make the project and what not, and maybe we can all meet up once a month and one person can collect the projects and see to it that they are donated.
Sorry if I ran away with the idea but I really feel this is something that would be fun and exciting.

Maybe you can do a little research as to what starting a small non-prof would entail? Might be able to get start up funding but what is the write-off like? Who would get involved? What organizations would we back? etc. There are some places out there (as I mentioned to you specifically, earlier) that are already dedicated to this sort of charity. I will try and pull up the links to them and post them here so everyone can take a gander. smile
