Place: Wallace's Apartment
Time: 8:00 pm

Wallace P. Wells
Drunken Homosexual looking for Love

Wallace was not wearing the appropriate attire for a conventional date, but in his head this was not a conventional date - this was a date he had won in a love slut competition, and so a love slut he would be. Not only for the winner, but also for his other true love --

-- bacon.

Right now the sizzle of bacon in the pan was so enticing, and the kitchen smelled delicious. He would be drooling if he weren't a civilized man of class.

And so, with a slight updraft in his boxer briefs, he waited for his mysterious date to arrive, and he hoped it wasn't a teenage boy. Or Jack.

Hartley was pretty sure that bidding for the services of men over the internet was a one-way ticket to Hell, but whatever...it wasn't like it was completely anonymous, since he'd met and talked to (and made out with) Wallace on more than one occasion.

And besides...it was for charity. A reformed-criminal-turned-left-wing-socialist could appreciate that.

Charity. And bacon.

Which Hartley smelled wafting under the door as he stepped up, a corny bundle of roses in hand, and knocked on Wallace's apartment door.

Wallace forked the bacon, sliding it over on a plate. He could make waffles or pancakes, the batter was ready...he just didn't know how his mystery date would like it. He had some nice Canadian maple syrup all ready to go.

At the sound of the knock, he headed over to the doorway, pulling it open and gesturing for ...Hartley to come in. Whew, it was a guy. He wasn't sure how all of this would have gone had a female won him. Or a teenage boy. Or Jack. Besides, Hartley was cute and a good kisser. He'd always enjoyed making out with him before.

Wallace spied the flowers. He hadn't gotten any for his date. Was he supposed to? Maybe Hartley had brought his own with the foresight that Wallace would forget flowers. "Please, come on in. I made bacon...would you like pancakes or waffles?"

Pancakes or Waffles?

Trick question!

"Both." Hartley stepped in with a smile and set the flowers on the table.

"I think I can manage that," Wallace closed the door after Hartley and headed out into the kitchen. "Would you like anything to drink? I'll take your coat." Wallace extended a hand to take his jacket.

"Thanks. I'll take care of the drinks." Hartley handed over his jacket. He walked over to Wallace's astonishingly well-stocked vodka bar and looked through the selections. Any martini that could be dreamt of could be crafted in this liquor cabinet. Such was the power of the Nexus, Hartley supposed.

"Let's see...." Two dirty martinis seemed like a good call, so Hartley pulled out the olives, vermouth and Grey Goose. "How dirty do you like it?" He asked, knowing full well that was probably a corny set-up line.

At the question, Wallace looked to his own outfit (or lack there of), then to Hartley, and then back to the underwear he was adorned in. Did that question really need to be answered? Of course it did, with a cheezy reply. "I like my martinis like I like my bedroom talk - filthy. But not like my bathrooms. I like those spotless."

Lazily he flipped a pancake, then piled it on a plate. Slowly, the pile grew, and he began to focus on the pancakes. "I have syrup and fruit toppings in the fridge. Could you get those for me?"

"Sure." Hartley opened the fridge to...more vodka. Vodka to the left. Vodka to the right. Vodka stuck in the middle with vodka.

Truly, this was the fridge of the breakfast of champions.

On the lower shelf were the pancaking implements, including fruit and syrup that apparently needed to be refrigerated. He pulled these out and brought them over to the counter.

"So tell me...why the auction?"

"It feels good. Not just making money for charity, which is nice, but ... I like knowing that someone out there wants to go on a date with me enough to blow money on it," Wallace said with a shrug. For a moment he wondered if that sounded really pathetic, but then decided that it couldn't hurt to be honest. "I mean, I'm not getting any younger. If one of the Teen Gay Boy Squad was up for auction, heck...they'd probably make far more than I did. Except maybe that little magic one."

Wallace paused, finishing a waffle and then pouring the batter in to make another one. "Maybe if he marketed himself as a drag queen...." A pause in thought, and he shrugged. "It's harder the older you get."

"TELL me about it." Hartley sat down. "It's worse when you have a rap sheet. Plus, dating in the superhero-slash-villain world isn't all it's cracked up to be. Yeah, there are stories of TWOO LUV out there, but most of the time you're just hoping to keep your dating life quiet enough that someone doesn't decide to stick your sweetheart in the fridge."

Hartley took a long sip of his drink.

"Sorry, that probably wasn't appropriate to say. I blame it on my lack of love life. Where I come from, lesbians? You're practically tripping over them. But open gay men? Rarer than the dodo."

"That's gotta suck. I'm not really someone anyone is out to get, so whoever I'd date would be safe. Unless Scott decided to move in again and use all my stuff," Wallace said with a frown.

He listened to Hartley continue, and he felt a little soft spot grow in his stomach for him. Or maybe that was because he was hungry.

Putting the waffles and pancakes on plates, he brought them over with two empty ones so they could start eating. The plate of bacon soon followed. For a brief moment, he paused to kiss Hartley on the cheek, then settled in his seat. "So why did you bid?"
