Malice waited quietly for the first two would be combatants to arrive. His Mandalorian training and understanding of the importance of the battle circle making his body rigid, the circle's unflinching guardian. Malice wondered who would be the first to engage in combat within the circle, wondered of the two, who would be going home with the honor that day. Malice knew it could not be, but it did not stop him from yearning for the right in silence. All he could do was wait, 4 Mandalorian warriors standing nearby...their stances relaxed, but Malice could tell they felt the yearning too. They too served as the Circle's Guardians, standing a silent vigil with Malice...all of them poised...waiting for the circle to be truly opened...only then could they use it.

[I hope I'm reading it right in this is the thread the action takes place in, and the Drawing the Line thread is where the rules for this thread are posted sweatdrop if I am wrong, let me know and I'll correct it XD]

Zeraxul, intrigued by the makings of this challenge set and having heard the rules, figured this would be a good way to test his combat skills. Even if he couldn't use the Force or his preferred weapon, it would be an interesting challenge of skill. Smirking a bit, he stepped forward towards the circle, speaking in a low tone to Malice.

"I would like to make an attempt at this variety of combat...it intrigues me, and I would much enjoy the challenge that is presented. I would be pleased to be among the first to attempt this..."

He then waited to see what Malice's response was, as well as to see who his opponent might end up being...

Thanatos watched the process take place, he found that Mandalorians as a race were...simple. He had no other word for it, but brutally effective. In some cases this was a optimized way of viewing things in terms of strength, but in others it lacked sublety when compared to the Echani. Thanatos regarded both as among the top races on his very small list.

So he sort of understood the politics of this circle, for it was politics. What better way to gain dominion over your nemesis than just straight combat. The right to lead for example could be wagered in such a match. This was something that made everyone equal. The only trouble is that you had to earn the right to fight an enemy who was above you and rank. Yes this race was simple and they believed everything outside of war was luxury.

Thanatos was content to just watch a ways off, he did not feel like entering into a state of barbarism at this point but seeing this he was deeply torn to fight. He had fought Zeraxul before and of course his confidence was not shattered by the challenge. If no one else were to get up there in a moment he would jump up and try out his skill.

Malice gazed at Zeraxul, the intensity in his eyes lighting a fire in his own heart. Smiling menacingly, Malice extended his hand to him.

"The Battle Circle would be honored to be opened by one such as yourself. Do you have a challenge in mind apprentice, or are you wasting our time? Name the individual whom you are requesting to duel this day, and we shall see if you are worthy."

Malice crossed his arms upon his chest once more, waiting for Zeraxul to respond, his gaze penetrating. Leaning to glance behind the apprentice before him, Malice regarded Thanatos with mild disdain. Sensing the direction of his thoughts, Malice's voice took on a colder edge as he spoke to him.

"Mandalorians are not simple apprentice. Come, join The Battle Circle so that we might share our culture with you. You will come to find that our people may be warriors first and foremost, but there are many aspects to a Mandalorian that outsiders rarely get a chance to discover...normally because the blaster bolts hit them first."

Malice grinned before returning his gaze back to Zeraxul. "Well? Have you come to a decision?"

Thanatos was more than a little mildly surprised that someone would venture into his mind. He from then on would not tolerate such brazenness.

He replied to Malice scornfully as he walked to the circle, "The next time you venture into my mind, tread carefully Mandolorian, for I will fight you with everything I have. I promise you will not like it. Also while it is true that I do not understand all the aspects of your race, if it can be called a race noticing the many species calling themselves such, you only prove my point. At the mere mention of an insult which by the way was not, you automatically take offense. While in fact I applaud there simple tendencies.

And the blasters... well that would depend on circumstance, now would it?"

Thanatos was watching this Sith, for he had the familiar red aura that only a Sith could have. He did not know who he was, but he would not be trifled with.

Yom Nole just finished assigning bunks to the Supercommandos. and was on his way to see about the status of other potential recruits for the outcasts when a framilliar sight caught his attention. a small group of mandalorians standing at ready around a etched circle. recognizing it for what it was, Yom smiled beneath his helm and stepped inside to watch the proceedings of the Battle Circle. moving over to a nearby pillar and leaning against it.senses and body alert, focused and ready for action dispite his relaxed posture.

as he stood there he listened to the exchange near the arena eyes narrowing when the one made the crack about the mandalorian way letting in so many different species. Yom began to make his way to the arena for a closer look thinking of words he heard long ago. the mandalorian way is as much a mindset as it is a philosophy. Though many of its followers might be human from mandalor, we are not about to turn awaythose with skill and honor who wish to join us in the great battle.

Zeraxul appeared thoughtful...he hadn't though about picking an opponent. Though he quickly turned his attention to the crowd behind him, where he had come from. He was sure he'd quickly figure someone out....though he was surprised to hear Malice address someone. It didn't take long for this person to address himself...not to mention make himself stand out like a sore thumb. A sly grin crossed Zeraxul's face as his prey made himself more available. Though, he decided to wait for a moment to allow Malice a response...more out of Zeraxul's own curiosity to see what response h might have to Thanatos than out of politeness...before clearing his throat and nodding, speaking clearly.

"Well...since he already walked up here and made himself quite available for such, I would like to challenge Thanatos."

Zeraxul surpressed a slight chuckle. He seriously doubted that this was what Thanatos had in mind when he walked up here, but Zeraxul was not about to let an opportunity go to waste. Their last match ended up being kind of a stalemate of sorts...he intended to rectify this here and now.

((Best I could do right now.))
Naku walked up behind the crowd, content to watch the happenings from afar. He had spent his years in the Battle Circle. It would be of no surprise that Malice would be the one in charge, especially since he is the strongest and most honorable warrior in the Battle Circle. Naku had earned himself the second Highest Rank in the Battle Circle. Naku's desire to compete in the circle would flare at the chance to face off against Malice again, but he would not join the Battle Circle for now. He would wait, for a worthy opponent to face him. So he would wait, and watch as the others would enter the circle and fight.

Malice grinned, not in the least bit affronted by this apprentice's brazen and foolish attitude. Taking a step just past Zeraxul in order to close the distance between himself and Thanatos, Malice spoke, low and frightening.

"Do not presume to understand me apprentice, I did not take offense because of some trivial thought of no real import. As for entering your mind, I did not need to...you broadcast your thoughts loudly to anyone keen enough to be listening. Besides...be aware that no guardian of The Circle will be kind when addressing potential combatants. One must earn their place to speak here, and given the fact that you have yet to fight a duel of honor, I have no need to address you in this sacred space with any respect. Duel in the circle, attain honor and reputation and that will change. As far as meaning it as a compliment, I was aware of that fact. I was simply enlightening you to the falsity of that thought. We Mandalorians are far from simple, as you may soon discover. And threats have no place here, if you can not, or will not issue a challenge, take your idle threats and **taab'echaj'la, **Cyar'ika."

Turning back toward Zeraxul, Malice grinned wide. Pleased that the upstart apprentice was so soon being called to The Circle, Malice regarded Zeraxul with mild interest. "I will allow this challenge." When Malice turned back toward Thanatos, his demeaner had changed. He now addressed Thanatos with the utmost respect, all diffrences forgotten in the face of the challenge for The Battle Circle.

"As you are the **Verda who was challenged, what are the terms of this confrontation? They can be anything you desire, any weapon, armor, or force power, combination of these, or none at all. How will you face **Verda Zeraxul, **Verda Thanatos?"

Waiting for Thanatos to respond to his query, Malice addressed his brother, who was watching from the rear of the room. "The line has been drawn, The Circle cast, **Vode." His gaze flickered between the faces of all in attendance before he addressed them all. "**Aliit ori'shya tl'din, Vode. **Jorso'ran kando a tome.

((Authors Note: Phrases or words starting with ** are mandalorian phrases and will be found at the bottom of each post I write that contains Mando'a))

**taab'echaj'la- To be deceased, to pass on, death, to die
**Cyar'ika- Sweetheart
**Verda- Warrior, warriors
**Vode- Brother, Brothers
**Aliit ori'shya tl'din, Vode- Family is more then bloodlines, brothers
**Jorso'ran kando a tome- We shall bear it's weight together.

It was true he did not understand all of the Mandolorian traditions or culture. However him broadcasting his thoughts could be argued. He never intentionally or subconsciously did so. His master made sure to that. So again Thanatos stuck to his initial idea. Watch Malice, and make sure he did not read his mind. It could mean life and death. As for what he said, he let it roll of his shoulders. An argument would hold no ground here, he understood that much.

He looked at Zeraxul, remembering the challenge. He said, "So be it, I choose unarmed combat with the use of the force, no armor and no other weapons."

As if to emphasize his point he took off his garments. Letting Parthenon simply float off his torso and fold neatly into a pile. His torso was covered in scars from fighting the beasts of the wilds. Thanatos took off the rest of his clothing, including his boots. He would utilize the earth.

When done he bared his canines unconsciously, showing his aura of threat as if he was fighting another wild animal. His vision focused on his enemy, waiting on the time to start.

Zeraxul's grin faded quickly, his face turning more serious as he listened to Malice speak, as well as the terms Thanatos chose. He'd need to be a bit more cautious, what with the Force being involved in this match. Of course, at the same time, this meant he could use any number of tricks to win himself. So long, of course, as the blows are nonlethal. He nodded his agreement to the terms, removing the outer layer of his cloak...and though he left his own undershirt on for the time being, he did go ahead and remove his shoes and gloves. His saber, he placed with his removed garments. He took note of the scars on Thanatos' body...he must have had some harsh training. He wasn't phased by Thanatos' signs of aggression, either. He did not fully know what tactics Thanatos would use...but he would have to see how to counter them as he came. He nodded to Malice once he had prepared himself to signal that he was ready. Even if Thanatos had gotten to set the terms, Zeraxul had no intention of losing.

Smiling Malice regarded the two combatants. "Step forward and enter The Circle." Turning to address all in attendance Malice followed customs to the letter, telling them the full conditions of the match.

"This challenge of honorable combat has been issued by Verda Zeraxul toward his equal, Verda Thanatos. The conditions are simple. Both combatants will face each other without the use of any weapons that are not natural. Each can use the Force as they see fit. Neither opponent will have the advantage of personal shielding or armor. A fine choice with that, but remember, **Verd ori'shya beskar'gam."

Waiting for the two to take their place, Malice stepped back from the edge of the circle. "Remember, The Battle Circle is not a place of death, but honor. Fight as you would in war, but spare your trench-mate a killing blow." Kneeling, Malice bowed to the circle, as his forehead touched it's edge he whispered to it. **"Mhi ba'juri verde," he told The circle, a tradition of Clan Ordo.

Malice stood facing the two fighters in the center of the circle. His next words were echoed by the other Mandalorians who stood close by

**"Mando'ade, Mhi solus tome.Mhi solus dhar'tome. Bal kote, darasuum kote. Mhi solus dhar'tome. Sa kyr'am Nau tracyn kad, Vode an! "

With these words, The Circle was opened!

**Verd ori'shya beskar'gam- A warrior is more than his armor.
**Mhi ba'juri verde- We will raise warriors.
**Mando'ade, Mhi solus tome.Mhi solus dhar'tome. Bal kote, darasuum kote. Mhi solus dhar'tome. Sa kyr'am Nau tracyn kad, Vode an! - Children of Mandalore, We are one together. We are one when parted. And glory, eternal glory. We share all. Forged like the saber in the fires of death, brothers all!

Thanatos rushed at Zeraxul as soon as Malice looked to be finished speaking. As he ran forward he scooped up some earth and threw it at Zeraxul's eyes. At such close range it would be very difficult to avoid, so Zeraxul would have to block it.

However when Zeraxul dealt with the dirt was when Thanatos would bring one of his "tricks" into play. He seemed to shimmer for a fraction of a second then ran at Zeraxul fists flying looking for an opportunity to attack the extremities.
PostPosted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:46 am

Zeraxul smirked as he saw what Thanatos was preparing, and made no move to dodge the dirt headed. Instead, he positioned himself in the basic stance that his master had taught him of for in case he was ever disarmed. He had been taught of an ancient martial art, focused on projections, disarms, and incapacitation from inability to attack. Though, it had a more malicious twist to it than the actual founder intended with the Sith. He moved his left foot forward, and kept his right foot back at a forty five degree angle, the feet shoulder width apart. At the same time, he very quickly thrust a palm forward towards the dust cloud...and behind it, Thanatos....as he unleashed a Force strike, both to deflect the dirt from his eyes and to attempt at throwing Thanatos off balance.

Should this attempt fail, Zeraxul would allow Thanatos to get close and make the first strike...seeing that it was a punch of some kind, he would take a step back with his left foot...using the back of his left hand to push the blow down and towards his waiting right hand at a rather surprising speed. He'd quickly grab Thanatos' wrist with this hand, and at the same time, step out to the side while using his now free left hand to push against the meat of his bicep, just above the bend of the elbow. If this worked, it would easily put Thanatos in a more off balance position, and unable to attack Zeraxul with his other hand. Zeraxul from here would quickly pivot under both his own arms, which would result in Thanatos being in a chicken winged position, with the elbow pointed striaght towards the ceiling, and his balance way too off to be able to avoid being projected...which Zeraxul would do towards the edge of the arena by simply pushing with both his hands, which would easily cause him to fall in that direction....though while Thanatos was falling, he'd unleash a second Force strike at him to attempt to increase the distance he went. Possibly even knocking him out of the ring already if he was sufficiently unprepared. This whole thing happened fast enough, it was possible a good segment of the technique was missed if one were to blink.

However, if the Force strike did manage to make Thanatos stumble, Zeraxul would go on the offensive, counter rushing Thanatos before he could catch his balance. He placed several well aimed strikes to key areas of the torso, all designed to both keep him off balance and to push him back further if they connected. Once Zeraxul felt he had gained enough ground, he would move forward, using his left hand to push the back of Thanatos' neck towards the crook of his right elbow if he was able. The end result wwasn't quite a closeline, but it looked it. However, if this worked, Zeraxul would pivot on his outermost foot, forcing Thanatos to move with extra momentum. Suddenly, Zeraxul would then stop moving, facing towards the edge of the ring as he waited for Thanatos to pass him before he simultaneously stepped forward and raised his right elbow to the ceiling, easily throwing Thanatos to the ground. Though the instant Thanatos began falling, he would pivot and aim an axe kick at Thanatos' stomach...a blow that was decidedly not lethal, but could incapacitate fairly easily. This would also add some force to the impact he would make on the ground it it worked, possibly knocking some wind out of Thanatos.

Either way, he'd simply re-enter his stance, making sure he had a slight distance between Thanatos and him, waiting to see how he reacted to his sudden, and hopefully unexpected, attacks.

When Zeraxul, used his force strike it hit Thanatos square on. At least that's what it looked like it did. It actually hit an illusion copy of Thanatos. Were Thanatos actually was to Zeraxul's left launching a force strike of his own towards Zeraxul which would completely blind-side him, it would at least score a hit. Shimmering again as soon as he let the Force launch out of his hand.

Thanatos would at this point cloak himself from both the Force and the light spectrum. As soon as Zeraxul would hit the other illusion of Thanatos he would create 3 more. At which point giving him time to set up other little nasties to throw Zeraxul off his game.

Thanatos was dead set on making this a battle of attrition. Zeraxul had stamina for sure, but not as much as Thanatos. What Thanatos had to watch out for would be Zeraxul using his deadly proficiency with martial techniques, if his lightsaber combat was anything to judge by.
