– Isaiah 61:1 (NIV)
Today’s commentary
by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org
Isaiah is addressing the people of God at a time when Judah had rebelled against God and had been conquered by Babylon. Yet God brings words of comfort in the midst of incredible hardship, for even though Judah had lost faith in the God of Abraham, God had not lost love for His people. We tend to hear more clearly when we are out of resources, miserable and feel in bondage. Isaiah reminds us that God’s love trumps our rebellion. His mercy brings freedom to our captivities.
