The Article

So here's the story. Companies have a legal right to ban guns. Most states allow open carry which means you can carry a gun out in the open in a holster. Conceal carry is allowed too. That's where you can legally carry a gun and have it hidden if you have a permit. Stores can ban guns though so while your city may allow you to carry guns stores can ban them so you are not allowed to carry weapons inside with you.

Starbucks does not do this though. If your state/city allows you to carry guns so do their shops. The National Gun Victims Action Council is rallying up a boycott on Valentines Day so if you want them to ban guns feel free to participate.

Now here's my views on the matter.
I don't like Starbucks, but I am considering going as a pro gun anti protest. If you ban guns from starbucks then law abiding citizens will not carry guns. Will this really do anything to stop criminals? If you're going to rob a starbucks are you going to leave your gun at home because guns are illegal?

You know starbucks gets worse and worse. I mean now they are even serving alcohol in several locations and now this with guns. I agree with you that a criminal would ignore the rule they made. I mean really. And people carry guns for several reasons. like protection.

Didn't know about the booze. The gun thing isn't really a new feature. As far as I understand it they've always allowed guns.At a quick glance the oldest news article I found was from 2 years ago so at the very latest that's when it's been allowed though I suspect it's probably been this way since they first opened their doors.

I can really feel for the NGVAC because losing a loved one who was shot is a painful thing, but seriously the only way I can see this gun thing going bad is if some idiot takes out their gun and starts playing with it. Most people who carry are smarter than that. Open carry may or may not have a little less sense. Concealed carry definitely knows better because those permits aren't very easy to obtain.

I live in Alaska where guns are just the norm. And especially up North you expect every one to have a gun, I agree that anyone with a permit would not have a gun out waving it around. I have friends that carry guns in there purses and in the car and except for the fact that I was told about it they do not go around telling anyone. In fact we have been to starbucks together in the past. And since it was a night they could have been carrying a gun with them.

Apparently some other butthurt group declared a starbucks boycott a month ago because they support gay rights or something retarded like that. Seriously you shouldn't give two shits what a company thinks about what people have what rights especially if those opinions don't affect your life.

And so here I am a year and a half later. Mothers Demand Action and other anti gun organizations joined the boycott to pressure Starbucks to ban guns on the premises. Since the boycott began gun owners have given additional support to Starbucks for allowing them to carry their weapons. Today Starbucks released an open letter requesting gun owners no longer carry their weapons in the stores or in their outside seating areas. The anti gunners are going to tote this around as a big victory.

Several of my pro gun friends are angry over this because they gave their support since their rights were welcomed.

I personally am a little annoyed but otherwise don't care. As a "counter" protest I ordered one drink from them. I never really became a regular customer and didn't really have any intention of becoming one. The open letter said it is not a ban, but rather a "request" to give the gun owners the opportunity to politely comply. Either way it's their store and they can do what they want. They've lost a lot of customers today as pro gunners will boycott them now. Time will tell if the new influx of anti gunners will balance out the pro gunner protest.

Right. Where I live, you see signs posted everywhere, "No Guns Permitted Here" ..even where the bus stops are at. It's like..wow, "this sign posted here is going to save my life".

It gives people the illusion of safety. With open carry allowed if you see someone carrying a gun you're not sure if they're a threat or not. Ban it and if someone has a gun it's likely they mean you harm.
