Kid Icarus: Uprising新・光神話 パルテナの鏡 Release Dates: Japan: March 22, 2012; NA/Europe: March 23, 2012 Platform: Nintendo 3DS Developer: Project Sora (Publisher: Nintendo) Genre: Third-person shooter E3 2011 TrailerNintendo is finally giving Kid Icarus fans the game they've been hoping for since Pit's overhauled reappearance in SSB: Brawl. Nineteen years have passed since the last installment (Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters - 1991/92) and after seeing the new trailers and screenshots, I am personally very excited to finally lay my hands on a KI game. An interesting thing to note about the central protagonist, Pit, is that his character design actually draws from three other major Nintendo protagonists: he can jump like Mario, utilize shooter weapons like Samus, and make use of a plethora of ability-enhancing items like Link!
Unlike Link, though, Pit and the other KI: Uprising characters have been confirmed in the latest trailers to have spoken dialogue. This creates an interesting contrast to how Nintendo has handled most of its central protagonists over the years, most especially Link as his "silence" is one of his most infamous characteristics.
What do you guys think? Post your gaming experiences and comments below!! Wikipedia.

Having been obsessively playing this game for the past two days, I can honestly say it's really awesome. The major drawback, unfortunately, are the controls; one has to hold the 3DS system in one hand, moving Pit and pressing the action button, whilst using the other hand to aim with the stylus. It makes for awkward movement, especially while trying to maneuver Pit on land, and sometimes sloppy aiming (unless you really become a whiz with the stylus; homing arrows help a lot), not to mention hand cramps. I did ultimately find myself getting used to the controls, but with the lightning-fast gameplay pace that's set from practically the first mission onwards, there isn't much forgiveness in that regard. You can tinker with the control settings in the options but it doesn't make them flow much better. As the battles have tendencies to throw everything and anything at you at once you have to be focused and seriously in gear with the controls just to stay on top of things. It's both thrilling and irritating at times. This control system makes me appreciate Zelda's wonderful L/Z-target system all the more.
The general flow of the story and mission sequence is nice. Most chapters/missions I've played through so far have taken no more than around fifteen minutes to clear. The story progression is completely dependent upon the completion of missions, and you can set the difficulty level before heading out (every time you die during a mission, you can opt to respawn with full health and a lowered difficulty level - and the nice thing is you don't have to automatically start over on everything at that point). You can replay missions for higher scores, to collect more "hearts" (confusingly enough, hearts are this game's currency), or to try a new difficulty level. There aren't many side quests, mini games, or anything that I've found that you can do out in all the different areas, because you essentially go in and do what you need to do then get the hell out. As you raise the difficulty level in a particular level you can sometimes find new areas that are unlocked, though I haven't really explored this yet. There is a multiplayer mode which I've heard is great, but haven't looked into myself. The variety of weapons in this game is great, though I find myself favoring bows and shooter blades as they seem to respond to the chaotic battle sequences the best (at least for me). You can even fuse weapons to create rarer and more powerful ones.
The graphics are gorgeous, the music is superb, the story is pretty interesting, and the voice acting is good enough for what it is, lol. Pit and Palutena (Pit's leading lady and commander, the Goddess of Light) banter back and forth with each other rather informally during missions, oftentimes breaking the fourth wall or spewing terrible puns (though they seem to know this xDD). It's charming in a stupidly cute way usually, but it can also get annoying when you're trying to concentrate and the characters won't shut up (enemies and other characters will often join in on the conversation during battle - talk about sensory overload sometimes). Being a Zelda fan who's used to the text-oriented, quiet style of speech in the LoZ series (especially silent with our dear protagonist xD), this was something quite different. On the whole, though, I think KI:U's voice acting style generally works for how this game flows, and keeps everything in a whimsical sort of place, which is fun. What makes it even more fun is that Pit and Palutena have made several indirect references to the fact that this is the first KI installment in over 20 years, and sometimes they even present screenshots from the two older games as references mid-conversation! Uprising makes great plays to its predecessors' previously fading legacy in general (from what I know) and to Nintendo's stellar history.
Although I've only completed about half the game, I can say that KI: Uprising is definitely a fun, yet wild ride, and while most people would probably agree that it has its flaws, it's still a great game and a fantastic re-introduction to the Kid Icarus franchise. I really hope that Nintendo will continue the series after this with even more installments. If I have anything else to add later or after I finish it I will here!! I'd recommend anyone who has a 3DS to get or borrow a copy to try it out ;D

I can't find my purse right now, which basically contains my entire life (except for my cellphone). So right now I have no money, identification or bus tickets until I find the damn thing, haha. BUT HOPEFULLY SOON!

And then get a new health card and driver's license on top of it all (thankfully, I'm not expected to be in my new apartment until pretty much September, haha. x___x Oh lordy.
