Hachijō-kojima (八丈小島?) is a small volcanic deserted island in the Philippine Sea approximately 287 kilometres (178 mi) south of Tokyo and 7.5 kilometres (4.7 mi) west of Hachijō-jima, in the northern Izu archipelago, Japan. Administratively the island is within Hachijō, Tokyo, Japan. Orientated in the same northwest to southeast direction as Hachijō-jima, the 1.3 x 3 km Hachijōkojima is surrounded by high cliffs. The summit of the island is the mountain Taihei-zan (太平山?) with a height of 616.8 metres (2,024 ft). Located in the Kuroshio Current, the area has abundant sea life, and is popular with sports fishermen and scuba divers.

The island has been uninhabited by civilization since 1969. All kinds of things could go on here without anyone noticing.

The ship had launched off from Mahora, and as the woman fainted, he sighed. Not what he'd wanted. And he was running on ambient mana. And of all annoyances, he'd let that amateur actually hit him. Ah well, the shot was off because of where he'd been, but it was still an annoyance. He'd pull it out later. There was no time to do it now. He didn't feel any poison working through him, so he was fortunate. He sighed. What was this strange place? From above, everything looked so different. This wasn't the magic world. The landmass was all wrong. Yet, it couldn't be his own world, could it? If that was the case, what odd country was he in? He knew that language he heard, he'd heard it once or twice in his lifetime, but there were differences. Another region, perhaps? Ugh, it was bugging him. He let himself get hit, and he knew it. Shaking off the dust was a problem. And his body hadn't recovered.

There was an island not too far from where he was flying, he saw. Good, good. And from what he could see, it didn't look inhabited. There was a chance that the ship would be identified by sight, so he'd deal with that. Asgeirr landed on the island, and immediately the ship would reduce itself to a smaller size. From there, he placed it back in his vault. Again, despite teh pain in his back and shoulder, he lifted Ayaka and headed into the wilderness. He should have some time. The blonde man headed into the woods, after summoning a pair of pants from his vault.

Asgeirr looked up to the sky, thinking on this new place he was in. Where had he ended up? This world was so strange. But at least here there was natural beauty. When he'd flown over, he didn't recognize the landmarks. And there were so many buildings. When had the world gotten so populous? What world was he even on? Ah well, he'd figure out with the girl's help. He sighed and yanked the blade out of his body. A small throwing knife. Problematic. He incanted a simple spell and destroyed it. He wasn't sure if the user could use magic, and if he could, it might be used to track his location. He'd come up against similar techniques. That done, he lifted Ayaka and took her further into the mountainous area. He searched for a cave he could hole up in. Imagine his delight when he found that the mountain was an old, dead volcano. Excellent. This would work according to plan.

He first began by covering his trail. He summoned his spear, and used the wind tunneling form. by doing this, he created a large wind from the central point. By charging the wind, he blew all manner of twigs and grass and leaves about, covering his tracks on the ground. He wasn't sure what kind of trackers they had, but he made sure to circle the area thoroughly with the wind bursts, to make it seem as if a natural storm had passed through. Since the valley was sort of a basin, surrounded by mountains in all but a few areas, there were only a few points of entry. At his point, at the very back of the mountain itself, and inside, he would be unapproachable.

He might have days to memorize the area, but he also might not. He took Ayaka as far into the mountain as he could. Naturally this would take him a few hours. If she woke up, he'd carry her anyway, but with the shock, it may take time. He hoped he had that time. As he walked, he began to mentally map his areas. As he walked down passageways, he would take from his vault a bit of marking dye, and mark passages with simple runes. he had various runes he would use that would mean dead ends, or connecting passages. Since he was picking them randomly, and not depending on their meaning, only he would know the pattern he was specifically using. That way if anyone could read his writing, it would make no sense.

On the way to the island, Ayaka had stayed out, a partly peaceful expression on her face as she slumped over her seat. As they landed though, Ayaka hadn't budged. But as Asgeirr picked her up, and carried her into the cave, she stirred a bit. Opening her eyes partway, her eyes adjusted to the fairly dim environment she was in, her ears ringing as she tried to remember what happened.

Naked man. Well now, an image of that could clog anyone's mind. From a hangover, to a kidnapping, sure! Remembering a naked man always did the trick. And for Ayaka, it sure did, shown by a deep red that came over her face. But it was only as she remembered the mysterious man, that she wondered why she was...not on her own two feet. Oh. Right. Naked man led to big ship, and woosh! Now here she was in a dark cave that wasn't exactly the most welcoming of places.

"W-Where...where am I?" Ayaka began, her voice echoing off the cave walls. As she blinked a few more times, the ringing disappearing from her ears, she was now aware that she was being carried. By her kidnapper. But now he had pants, which of course, was a relief to Ayaka. "L-Let me down! I say, didn't you hear me before?! I said, let me down! I don't care who you are, or what you want, but let go of me this instant! I refuse to be handled this way!" And now the shouting began again. Wasn't life easier when she was just quiet? But of course, Ayaka could never be quiet for too long. Never.

["I don't understand a word you're saying. I really wish you could understand me, though."]

So he did speak! But it was in a language she most likely didn't understand, even if she could potentially place the accent. That might be part of the problem. If he couldn't understand her, that might be why he'd grabbed her. He was in a strange place all of a sudden, and he couldn't understand or speak the local language. He sure didn't look like he was from around here, that was for sure. The odd thing was, if one were to look at them, they almost had the look of cousins. There were similarities here and there, but nowhere near strong enough to mark them as something closer in relation. As he neared one of the long passageways, where there was a dead end, he finally set her down. He didn't throw her, he actually set her down. But in a position where her back was to a wall, and he was between her and the exit.

He took several steps back. He seemed to be keeping himself at a distance. And he was constantly looking at her legs, and her arms. Not her breasts, or her face. It was like he was assessing her reach. It was common in combat situations to gauge the enemy's reach. So he knew how to do more than carry girls off; he could fight. Then again, considering all of his scars, it was obvious he'd been in fights before. He wasn't scarred to the point he was ugly; but he had enough marks to prove he'd been on the business end of some nasty things. There was also blood on the left side of his pants, seeming to come from the back. Maybe he'd been wounded taking her away?

He rubbed his temples for a moment and sighed. The look on his face was one of genuine frustration. He couldn't talk to her, and nothing she said made sense. What now? He wasn't just going to throw her down and violate her. He was a warrior, not a raider. He liked to win his women with his violence, not use it against them. Oh, the enemy's women, that was different. They were fair game. But she wasn't an enemy. Actually, he felt a sort of odd attraction to her that had nothing to do with her body, or even her inner fire. He mused. How would he communicate with her?

Ayaka was genuinely surprised as she heard the man speak. Well, it was good to know that they could possibly communicate. Problem was...what the hell was he speaking? It sounded nothing like anything she'd heard, and her family had entertained quite the variety of guests at her residence. But even his accent, she couldn't place. It sounded old though, ancient. But one thing was certain: they couldn't talk. At least, for now. So all Ayaka could do, was give him a confused stare. But at least it shut her up, for now.

Sitting on the ground now, Ayaka was thankful to back on the ground and on her own two feet, although her quizzical look soon turned into a full glare at the man. Even if he couldn't speak the same language, it still didn't pardon him. Whatever the society he came from, it was universal common sense not to grab a girl and run off with her. Except when you were eloping.

Still, her anger at Asgeirr couldn't prevent her from examining her surroundings, and him. From what she could see, she was pretty much trapped in this place. The only way out was through him, and as stubborn as Ayaka was, something about his battle-torn body signaled it wouldn't be easy. As her eyes locked back onto his again, the vivid blood on his pants caught her attention.

Ayaka reached forward a bit, reaching for his pants, like some curious child. Is he...wounded? "Your leg," She started, but sighed. Wait. Wouldn't it be easier to take advantage of his wound? After all, if he died, Ayaka would be free, and...then what? What could she do in a place she didn't know? Even if she somehow escaped, she'd be lost on the island, with no way to get back to Mahora. "Uh, your leg," Ayaka began again, and this time, pointed to his appendage. "Has blood on it. Are you," Another point to Asgeirr. "Okay?" Best to keep him alive and healthy. For now.

It wasn't a ploy. Her eyes were honest. He flicked his eyes down to his leg. Ah. he'd bled down onto his pants. He took a moment to turn around and show her the knife wound on his back that the thrown blade had made. It wasn't excessively deep, but it could get infected if he didn't treat it properly. Still, he didn't seem to care. To him, it was an annoyance. It had bled here and there down his back, which had run off on to his pants. To anyone in today's age, a wound like that would probably be debilitating. At least, to a student or a normal person. A martial arts master or someone who fought a lot could probably take the pain. He sighed. Again, he couldn't place her language..at all. He knew he'd heard a similar tongue off an exotic girl they'd captured a long time ago. But this tongue had variances.

He sat down finally, lowering himself to a non threatening position. He still had plenty of room to grab her leg if she tried to run past him, so he wasn't worried about that. His accent had sounded similar to older Scandinavian accents. Being a learned woman, Ayaka might have heard it from guests of her family, or even maybe on a multi-cultural TV channel. But the dialect was..archaic. He mused then. So the girl didn't know his native language. But if it was the magic world, what about Ostian? He tried that next.

["You there, girl. Can you understand me now?"]

He wasn't sure if that would make any difference. He really wished he'd gotten that device he was offered when he was younger that let him understand other languages. But no, he'd said the only thing he needed to hear from foreigners was their screams of surrender. Or pleasure. It was one of the few things in hindsight he regretted. He'd been such a kid then. He chuckled to himself and smiled as he remembered. Good times. Good times.

Oh, no. Of course it wasn't his leg, it was his...back? And somehow, he didn't see to give a damn. Just who is this man?! For Ayaka, if she got a papercut, that was enough to excuse herself from all and any manual labor. But this man, he seemed to have a high tolerance for pain. Or was just being a macho man, and shrugging it off. His scars and his overall oddities suggested that he could take more than a little dagger to the back. Perhaps an arrow in the knee?

As he lowered himself down, Ayaka instinctively tensed up, scooting back slightly. It was only natural, of course. He was her kidnapper, and who knew what his agenda was? So far, she was safe. But they could only keep up the civility for so long. One plan would have to be executed eventually. As he spoke, Ayaka only gave him the same confused look again. That was no help. Where was Google translate when you needed it? Not that the internet would help her in this case. His accent was vaguely familiar though. But Ayaka couldn't put her finger on it; it was only once her family had entertained an ambitious entrepreneur from Finland. But even then, Ayaka had resorted to a translator to converse with the guest.

And now, here in this musky cave, there was no interpreter. As he smiled though, Ayaka felt a little more at ease, although still cautious. At least the man seemed to be able of some human emotions and actions, other than kissing. But back to this language barrier. "Japanese? Do you speak Japanese? We're in...Japan." Ayaka was no artist, but she tried her best to outline the shape of her country in the air.

Hm. He watched her hands. The word she said. He recognized that one. Yeah, that was the name of the country they'd only tentatively explored, not that long ago. She said it with a stranger accent than that girl they'd captured, but they'd managed to make out it was her homeland. So he was still on his own world. Good, that was a start. But what had happened? Had some foreign power conquered it? All those odd buildings. Had the magic world invaded, then? Had they taken over the Old World? How long had he been out? It would take at least thirty to fourty years, maybe even fifty to mass that kind of conquest.

It kind of hit him then. The seal. The seal needed an opener. But if something had happened to his home, the stone might have been plundered by raiders. Ugh, if that was the case, it meant that he could have been out for any length of time. Though he doubted it was terribly long. A thirty or fourty year span was a long time, but he'd adjust. He nodded once to the girl to show at the least, he had a vague idea what she was speaking of. And he began to listen. Maybe he could pick out words if he was around her long enough. Still, he thumbed at himself.

"Ásgeirr".

Oh? He nodded! Or that was some abnormal head twitch of the olden days that looked like a head nod. Either way, Ayaka took it as a head nod. Good. At least he could understand some things. That was a start. Maybe he understood that she wanted to leave? That was unlikely.

She stood up then, still backed into the corner though, and dusted her skirt off. From her standing position now, she got a better idea of where they were exactly. From the lack of light, it appeared they were in the cave fairly deep. Ayaka winced. That would mean if she called for help, it was likely no one would hear her, unless some crazy cave hobo was dwelling here. Even then, she'd probably prefer her silent kidnapper over a cave dweller. Since he was squatting down, Ayaka could see over his head; if she tried to make a run for it now, she was certain she wouldn't make it far. But what if...

Ayaka took a step to her right, moving forward slightly, as she feigned interest in some rock. Just how far would he let her move on her own? He spoke again though, and Ayaka looked back at him. As...what? Certainl, it was no Japanese name. Nor did it sound English, although the English did have some odd names. Some sort of word to say 'stop'? What did it mean?

"Asgeirr." Ayaka repeated, and then thought of something. Pointing to a rock, she repeated the word. Then to the ground. Everywhere she could point to, she repeated 'Asgeirr'. One of the things she pointed to had to be an 'Asgeirr'.

...........It took time, for her body to traverse the distance. Time for her to track and lock onto him. She didn't appear inside with the duo, either. When she appeared, it was inside one of the tunnels close to them.

She lowered the card slowly, and closed her eyes, her clothing shifting back into something more normal, out of her armor. She'd probably only scare him that way, or make him wonder why she was attacking.

What she wore was typical of the age, a blue garment that hung off her shoulders, a tunic with a princess waist, that flowed to her hips, and a pair of white jeans. She was wearing her eyepatch, an afterthought, and because she wanted to try and contain the energy that she had taken in just a bit longer. A little bat charm was dangling from beads on her neck, and she ran her hand across it briefly. Her feet weren't bare, covered with light sandals, but she was quiet as a mouse as she moved through the tunnels.

And then she found the cavern just in time to hear him announce his name. The temperature in the air cooled as she shifted through the cavern entrance, a thin haze of mist swelling around her body and filtering around the floor.

She was facing Ayaka, with Asgeirr with his back to her. That was an interesting development. She hadn't expected him to have anyone with him, much less Ayaka. The two had spoken, briefly once, and she'd judged then that something about the woman drew her towards her. She wondered, with interest, if she'd been the one to unseal the man. That made things.. interesting.

"It's his name.", her voice was quiet, and her arms were folded across her stomach, head tipped as she watched the reaction of the girl.

"You.."

That got his attention for sure. He stood up quickly, and looked her over. What in the hell was she..wearing? Ugh. But it made sense. She'd adjust with the times. But things had sure changed in such a short time. He was speaking his own language again. He knew that woman understood him. But it was odd. Ah! The spear. That made sense. He'd made a bond with her before he'd died. Well, thought he'd died. So the card was active again, was it? Good. He loved that weapon. But she was still alive. So she hadn't been killed after all. That was good, in a way.

Still, how long had it been? Her being here was no help, because it was no indication on how much time had passed. She was an immortal blood-drinking marauder. He wouldn't learn much from looking at her body, pleasant a diversion as that was. That was the one downside about creatures like her. There was no indication of time on them other than fashion, and that was never a help. He shifted a bit, and looked over the golden haired girl and Ciara.

"I'm surprised you managed to stay alive. But hey, little fury. What age is this? How many shadows have passed on the sundial? I'm betting fourty or fifty years have passed. And when did Ostia invade? These settings are so strange."

...........She glanced downward, and there was a sad smile on her face as she listened to him talk. He really didn't know. How many years he'd 'slept', what had happened in the interim. She raised her head when he finished.

"Me. Staying alive wasn't easy, but you should know yourself how hard I am to slay," that sad smile was back again, and she stepped forward just slightly. "Asgeirr. Ostia never invaded. The year is 2012."

She lapsed into silence after that. She expected that whatever his reaction, it couldn't be good. Sleeping that long, the world passing you by, she knew how it felt first hand. But unlike him, she would live for eternity unless she was slain. He'd been deprived of his glorious heroes death. The chance to walk the halls of the Gods.

She rubbed one arm slightly, and in the clearer light he'd see that her blue eyes were hazy, dark.

"It's been over 1200 years since the last time I saw your face."

"Twelve hundred...years."

There wasn't any way that was possible. That many years. His sister was talented, but that kind of seal, for it to hold. She must have given her all when she made it, to make sure nothing went wrong. And yet, in doing so, something went very wrong. He felt he was right about one thing. Most likely he'd been stolen from his home. Had they been killed? Did they drive the enemy off, but didn't realize he'd been stolen until after the fact, when it was too late? But it had been so long. How many empires had risen and fallen? How many of his family line had lived and died? Did his mother ever have any more sons? Did the treaty happen as he'd hoped? What happened to the princess?

And who was this girl? Why was she there when he woke up? He really couldn't put it together. There were a thousand things going on in his head, and he couldn't get any clarity. Twelve centuries. Ha! It was insanity. He didn't know what to do. Where was his kingdom? Where were the gods? A man who dies a hero's death becomes a legend, and thus passes on into history. He never got his battle. Where was his family in the records now? Were they even recorded as more than a name in some dusty tome somewhere? There were no words. He didn't even have the strength to defy it. He just slumped to both knees and looked down at the ground.

"How many empires came and went, while I was lost in a dream? How many ages passed me by..how many battles did I miss? How many glorious wars, how many cultures of women and wine did I never see? And I never will. And here I am, in a kingdom that when I slept, was new to us. And now, it's gotten so far. Are my people even still alive?"

...........When he slumped, she crossed the floor, and knelt in front of him, moving to extend a hand, but hesitant to touch him. It was difficult for him, obviously, but it was also difficult for her. She never would have admitted it to anyone, but this was the first man she'd ever loved. Even what she felt for Ciardha, close as they were, seemed to pale in comparison from the pain she felt watching Asgeirr crumpled on the floor.

"So much has changed," she was still speaking in his language, but she was fluctuating between it, and the rich brogue that overtook her voice when she was emotional. "Your people have changed as well. The world has changed, the way people act has changed. Women are considered equal to men, wars are fought with weapons that could almost rival magic in their destructive capability. Fighting is considered criminal, and conquering is done with a stroke of a pen. Leaders don't fight with their soldiers any more, and the old ways are all but dead. Those who still practice them are considered archaic. And magic is hidden. Nothing is the same."
