Foster wasn't in the best of moods when he woke up this morning, but he decided to go visit Iksu anyways. It had been awhile since he had gone to see her. Her daughter Riley was out for the day, and she invited him for a visit.

Iksu was a long time friend of Foster. In fact, Foster had served as a donor for Iksu and her mate Zusa's litter of 7. Iksu had been having a tough time dealing with the long absence of her mate, Zusa. And now that all of the pups were grown, most of them were out doing their own thing which left her all alone. Only Riley remained, though her outings were becoming more frequent as well. It wouldn't be too long before she left too. Last time he visited she had told him about Chloe leaving. Apparently Chloe had ended up leaving the den as a teen and ran off with someone her mother hadn't approved of.

Foster being as caring and selfless as he was, always was there for Iksu. Seeing her like this saddened him, but also reminded him just how alone he was himself. He stayed and just listened to her. It was getting late however, and could feel a storm was coming. He said goodbye to Iksu, then headed back towards his den.

The wind had already picked up and was howling through the trees. Snow had lightly begun to fall, and a shiver ran through him. He was hoping he would make it back to his den before the storm got too bad.

"Well Crap!" Blanche swore out loud. Her mama would not have liked this kind of attitude but then again she did not remember her mama, so no harm done. Blanche's hind leg was hurting badly and was already becoming swollen with each passing second. She tried putting pressure on it only to crumple down on the muddy ground next to the river.

She was usually so dexterous and nimble, she could jump with the most splendid ease. "Guess the sudden lightning must have distracted me." She cursed herself for getting distracted so easily while crossing the river. Her den was still far but she would have made it before the coming storm hit, if only she could run.

Well luck was not with her this time, in fact, it was the closest she had been to death ever in her life. If she did not make it out of this storm she most surely would catch something bad. Without counting the fact that she was wide open for any predator attack right now, with not even the possibility of defending herself.

Blanche tried getting up again, but to no use. She let out a loud yelp as blinding pain shot up her leg and she crumpled to the ground once again. This was surely the end. Low whimpers escaped her as she laid there, helpless.

The snow was coming down harder now as Foster made his way back home. His green fur was slowly becoming less visible as it became more covered in the snow. He was following the river upstream back towards his den. He was nearly home. He picked up his pace so he would beat the storm.

As he began his trot, he heard a loud yelp nearby, followed by whimpering. Someone was in trouble! He knew with this storm coming, he had to help. He tried his best to follow the sounds, but had trouble spotting the source of the sounds. He heard the sound getting closer and closer and he began picking up his pace as the snow came down harder and harder. Finally he came upon the source of the whimpering, a female wolf. "It was no wonder I had trouble finding her!", he thought to himself. The other wolf lay there. She was white and tan blending in perfectly with the ground, which was now completely blanketed in snow, as was she. She appeared to be in a lot of pain.

Foster walked close enough to her to speak to her. "Is there anything I can do to help you?", he asked her. "I heard you on my way home. I found you as quickly as I could."

The snow was making the conditions near white-out and the wind was creating a blizzard effect, and he knew they should get out of there as soon as possible.

Blanche had nearly lost all hope. Her fur was all muddy, and not only that, she was quickly becoming chilled all the way down to her bones. The snow was really coming down now, and pretty soon she would be completely covered in it. She laid her head down, closing her eyes for what seemed like an eternity.

She did not even realize she had been whimpering when she saw a dark shadow coming out of the woods and standing right on top of her looking her down. She grew scared suddenly, "What difference does it make? At least this would be quicker" She whimpered. She looked up at her predator and she was stunned...

He was a handsome, green wolf. Huge! Towering over her. She always thought she was very tiny, that might have been why he seemed so big. She felt her insides getting warmer and the pain subsided for a fraction of a second. When she focused back on him she realized he had said something. He had asked her if he could help her? Ok, that was not what a predator would have said. She had trouble focusing."I uh... think i sprained my ankle crossing the river.I... can't really move." She tried getting up again, but just the slightest pressure brought her down to the ground. "It is no use, I don't know how you can possibly help me. You need to go, it is getting bad out here. You're going to be in danger too soon enough if you don't go." With that she gave up all hope and hung her head down ready to accept her fate.

He could tell he had frightened her, but there wasn't much time right now to be worrying about that. She was shivering, and if left alone, he was sure she would be dead by morning.

"No, I'm afraid I can't leave you like this. My den isn't far from here. I'll help you get there for shelter."

Normally he wouldn't be so assertive and bold, but with the snow coming down on them like it was, there was no time for introductions and being a polite and proper gentleman. He wasn't being rude by any means, but he gave her no time to argue with him.

"I'm sorry to do this to you Miss, but I'll be as careful as possible. I'm going to carry you." He gently put his head under her belly and had her drape herself over his neck and shoulders. It wasn't exactly an easy task, but her being so much smaller than him probably made things a bit easier.

They both were silent as he fought his way through the forest nearly blinded by the snow coming down so fast and the wind blowing it every which way. Lucky for them, they really were not far at all from his den when he found her. They finally reached his den, and he gently laid her down on the ground.

Blanche was barely conscious when she felt him hoist her up on top of him. Chilled to the bone, all she could do was sigh at the warmth emanating from this stranger. Shooting pain readily followed, and she gritted her teeth as hard as she could to keep from yelping.

He was surprisingly gentle with her. Despite the fact that the trip to his den was all kinds of hell to her. She could see that he was trying as hard as he could to ease her pain. Fortunately it was not a long trip and they made it safe and sound to his den.

Once again she gritted her teeth when he set her down. What exactly is going on with her leg!?! She was hoping that it was only a strain. She never felt such pain, but then again she never sprained anything before in her life.

She watched him close the den opening. Her guess was that this storm is going to last a while and that they would probably be snowed in. Looking around, she was hoping he'd have food around to last a little while. She looked back at him, she never met anyone so kind as to help a stranger at the cost of their own life. And she was deeply grateful for it.

"So uh... Thank you so much for saving me back there uh.... " she flushed, suddenly remembering they had not yet exchanged pleasantries "whats your name again? My name is Blanche"

Foster walked to the cave opening and pulled some brush and a large piece of bark over the cave entrance to keep out as much cold and snow as possible. He grabbed some extra snow that had found its way in and walked over to the female.

"I never told you my name. It's Foster though. Nice to meet you, Blanche. A shame the circumstances weren't better." He took the extra snow he had and placed it on her leg.
"Here, I hope this will help numb it, even if only for a lil while. Are you hungry? I have a couple rabbits I caught this morning if you would like."

"Thank you" she flushed accepting the cold ice. The ice felt nice on her hind leg, and the pain was fading slowly. Still, she was still in a bit of pain. Maybe all her leg needed was some rest. She definitely did not help her injury with all the strain she put on it.Hopefully she would heal soon, now that she was not in any danger of dying.

"I have to admit I am a bit hungry" she said, remembering she had not eaten for a little while now. She was not the greatest of hunters, nobody taught her. She lived her life alone pretty much, and made do with what she could. She was pretty good at fishing, that was about it. Fish helped her survive although the river almost took her life. She was still a bit shaken. She tried to shrug it off so that Foster would not notice, "I hope I am not imposing on anything, I hate to give you extra work, after all you have done for me."

Foster walked over and grabbed her a rabbit. He had already eaten before he had gone out earlier, so he did not need to worry about eating for awhile. He set the rabbit in front of her. "Here ya go, help yourself." He smiled at her.

"And don't worry, you're not imposing in the least bit. I live alone here, and there are very few wolves that live anywhere near here. Lucky I found you when I did." His thoughts trailed off. It really was luck that he found her. He didn't even want to think about what could have become of her had he not been on his way back from Iksu's den.

He sighed quietly. "It'd be a nice change to have the company, to be honest. You are free to stay here as long as you'd like while your leg gets better."

The snow from that storm melted and another storm came along and that snow melted away as well. The pain Blanche had felt in the beginning had all but gone and her leg had healed well. She was getting stronger and stronger with each passing day.

If it were not for Foster, she did not even know what would become of her. Not only did he rescue her he took care of her all along. He actually made her go outside the day before for a walk. It was like he knew she was going crazy all holed up inside his den. She walked a bit and even ran through the trees for a few seconds before she was winded. She looked back and realized he was watching her. She felt safe with him around. Safer than with any wolf she ever met.

She found herself stealing glances at him when he was not looking. And the times he went out to hunt for food she would look at the den entrance until he came back. He had become a normal fixture in her life. Truth of the matter is, she did not want to leave his den. However, she was running out of reasons to stay...

Foster was out of the den at the moment, hunting for dinner. He started thinking about Blanche. He had spent a couple months now tending to her. He hadn't left her side very long at all, nor did he really want to. The longest he had left her side was to go out to catch food for the both of them. Luckily the weather seemed to be on Foster's side. It was one of the worst winters in ages, and normally he would have hated being cooped up, but it had kept her with him longer. The weather was starting to let up however, and he was afraid that she would leave him the first chance she got.

He couldn't stop thinking about her. He slipped into a daydream for a few moments. Realizing he was back at the den, he snapped himself out of it. He walked in and placed a squirrel down for Blanche, and one for him. He didn't much feel like eating though, and stashed his in the back corned or his den where he kept his extra catches. To be honest, all he could think about lately was Blanche and worrying when she would leave. Then again, maybe he was wrong. She appeared in no hurry to leave, and even started smiling again once her leg started feeling better. Her smile...he hadn't really noticed just how beautiful Blanche was until he saw her first smile. He decided he would have to deal with it sooner or later, so he decided to suck it up and bring it up.

"So, Blanche...", he started casually. He was surprised he had managed to bring himself together so calmly, even though there was a sense of dread within him on the matter. He really didn't want to be alone again. "I've been wondering if you would like me to take you home. Don't you have family or friends that would be wondering where you are, or are worried about you by now?" He hesitated. "Of course, you are more than welcome to stay, I just...", he stammered slightly over the words. He didn't want her to think he was trying to get rid of her. He wasn't at all! He just was trying to be polite and figured there's probably someone out there worrying about her by now. "..I know I'd miss you if you had been away from home this long."
