Toradora!'s story begins with the male protagonist Ryūji Takasu who is frustrated at trying to look his best as he enters his second year of high school. Despite his gentle personality, his eyes make him look like an intimidating delinquent, so he feels utterly hopeless about his chances of getting a girlfriend anytime soon, and does not have many close friends either. After being greeted by his hungover mother in the morning, Ryūji goes to school and is happy to find that he gets to be in the same class with his best friend Yūsaku Kitamura and a girl he has a crush on, Minori Kushieda. However, it is then that he unexpectedly knocks into "the school's most dangerous animal of the highest risk level"—Taiga Aisaka—who just happens to also be in his class, and is a good friend of Minori. To sum up another long paragraph, Ryūji realizes Taiga is crushing on his best friend Yūsaku and she realizes he's crushing on her best friend, Minori. Ryūji suggests that they cooperate to win the objects of their affections. Instead, Taiga exploits the fact that Ryūji will do anything to get closer Minori and makes him her personal servant. Because of this, the two end up spending quite a lot of time together and Ryūji sees a side of her that most people never knew existed. They try and help each other improve the way people view them, and... Well, c'mon! You have to see them ending up together! It's anime law.

I was really impressed by this show. A lot of aspects of the show are things that I don't really care for in anime, but the show made it all work somehow. I don't find a lot of anime comedies to be funny, but Toradora made me laugh quite a bit. I cannot stand tsunderes, but I liked Taiga. A lot of anime protagonists end up being really bland, but Ryuji had an actual personality and I liked him a lot. A lot of anime romance seems kind of forced, but I enjoyed watching their relationship grow and change over the course of the series and at the end I was happy to see them get together.
It was just a really great series overall. I'm glad it got a release so I could give it a look (and one of NISA's really lovely releases at that heart ), and I'm enjoying rewatching it with a friend. I don't think she was very happy about stopping at the Christmas episode, though. sweatdrop

I dug up the manga on every site I know and I can only read to chapter 35. T3T It's really cheesing me off, Ryuuji's admitted to himself that he likes Taiga and I KNOW she likes him. She just won't say it, and he's to dense to pick up the hints.
Honestly, she wanted to win the swim race for him. He's hers, no one else can touch him.
How many more hints does he NEED?!
So I can't wait for more chapters to come out. I think I'll start the anime in the meantime.

Toradora's up on Hulu now if anyone's interested. I'm pretty happy about this; now I can recommend the show without making people spend a bunch of money on the DVDs or having to loan out my discs. cat_xd

Toradora is one of my favourite anime. I enjoyed the relationship development between Ryuji and Taiga(the palm top tiger). One thing is I have I big soft spot in my heart for Tsunderes so Taiga stole my heart instantly.
"Since ancient times, the dragon has been the only beast to equal the tiger. Even if you're not by my side right now, I will leap through space and time and always be by your side. These feelings will never change" My absolute favourite quote in the anime.
Another place you can find this anime and plenty others is anilinkz.com, if you prefer the Japanese sub that is.

NISA released it sub-only, at least. It doesn't really affect me, but I know a few people who were disappointed by the choice. (Rahna, did you ever get a chance to finish the show? What did you think of it?)

Revisiting this thread makes me want to watch though, so I'd better start now before I get distracted again. xD

I eventually will, but I keep getting distracted or forgetting! (Oh nooo, instead I had to get completely hooked on another series and finish that instead.) I'm so psyched for the dubs though, what a great cast! XD
