XXA Guide to Magic
XXXXXXX
This guide was written by PuddleInk. Tip your hat of to him, not to me. He worked his butt off for this. I'm just the coder.

As with anything of power, one must accept the consequences of one actions in humility and understanding. The use of the Magics of this land is not for the faint of heart, nor the weak of stomach. Every ounce of Will you put towards a specific goal, there Will be an equal will pushing back to resist.

After all, everything must remain in balance. It is the way of the world. It is the will of the Gods.

It is the way of the Arcane.

XXXXThe Elements

xxx Everything is composed of the basic four elements. Absolutely everything. They are the basis of what makes us and binds us to this realm. How they are arranged determines what we are, how we act, and how we think... it is our ‘soul’. Remember not to abuse these four basics in your quest to gain rank. Remember always to respect them, and they will in turn treat you with the same.

XXXXPyros

xxx Commonly called Fire Skill.
xxxUsually a manifesting element in the younger Novices, it is one of the first elements taught in detail in the Arcane college. Because of common manifestation at a young age and continued use through the life of those with the Skill, it is one of the last Skills to leave the body when a person’s time is up in this Realm. The ferocity and passion that is oftentimes associated with Pyros leads to some very explosive revelations if the person has potential for Skill. Common side effects include: sensation of burning flesh, randomly erupting flames of infernos from friendly campfires, spontaneously smouldering wooding buildings, and of course really, really strong emotional trauma be it pleasurable, overwhelming, unwanted and the ilk.

XXXXAquas

xxxCommonly called Water Skill
xxxWinding and unpredictable, wild and changing, the ebb and flow of Aquas can bring forth reflective insight on a smooth clear day, or turmoil and despair on the stormy waves of ignorance. As one of the second elements taught in depth in Arcane college, those close that draw affinity with Aquas are able to call up mist and fog on a clear and sunny day, sense and summon up the waves of cold, powerful, aquifers that run through the Isle and lands below, and even still the roaring waves of troubled lakes during the most ferocious tantrum storms. With enough practice, one can filter the water to breathe for a certain amount of time, though this does have limited use on a floating island. Not to mention the want to go swimming in a lake infested with dangerous sea serpents is seriously questioned on a good day.

XXXXTerras

xxx Commonly called Earth Skill
xxx Sold, stable, a grounding center though not without its dangers. It can stand the test of time, only to be destroyed in a moment of sudden rage. Fragile yet strong, it can support a kaleidoscope of life; yet with an unskilled hand, desolate that delicate oasis to a wasteland none has yet to survive. As a Skill taught, it is one of the most unyielding and stubborn elements to attempt to harness. Requiring a great deal of patience and acceptance of failure, those that grow to master this Skill are by far a few of the greatest Healers that walk this land. That isn’t to say that all that have great use in this skill are healers. The mining industry makes use of those with great Terras Skill when searching for the minerals under the ground like silver or gold, Morticians ask aide when they seek new land for a graveyard to avoid any dangerous energies that run rampant below the earth, and those seeking a quick heal ask the aid of those with the power of Terras to create small healing stones, or other stones that have a one-time-use-only deal.

XXXXAeros

xxx Commonly called Wind Skill
xxxAeros are of the weather, sky, and wind. Requiring extreme patience, self-control and knowledge of the world, it is one of the last and most dangerous of the elements to attempt to harness. Because of the power of change inbedded in the very core of Aeros, it is required to take great care, else there is a chance to suck the breath right out of anyone nearby. Aeros influences and shapes change in everything it touches to the point of possible corruption. Yet, despite the imbalance it can cause in an unskilled hand, it has many great uses that Tradesmen value that make the risks worth it ; being able to aid in lifting heavy object that would take five men to move two inches, dust seeds in a large field in a matter of moments instead of days, retrieving objects far away on a high and distant shelf... summoning up a warm summer’s breeze on a stifling day...
Oh, and of course blowing your opponents off their feet and possibly ripping them limb from limb in a hurricane gale.

XXThe Daft Principle:

Over Five hundred years ago, a curious alchemist by the name of Rodger Daft stumbled across new elements never seen before when an explosion happened during a routine elemental break down experiment. The fire elemental broke down into light and shadow. Curious, he continued experiments and wrote the basis of the tombs we study to this day.

The observance of The Daft Principle separates Alchemists from Magus. Magus do not believe that there are supplemental elements to the already established four, whereas Alchemists embrace this balance and try to use them to their fullest extent to some explosive results. Thankfully no brawls have been started because of this principle that we know of.

XXXXLight and Shadow

xxx Light enhances shadow, just as shadow enhances light. It is this duality that is the make up of the elements we hold dear and use every day. It is in this duality that we create and destroy balance for our own purposes. And it is in Light and Shadow one finds chaotic peace.
xxx Neither is ‘good’. Neither is ‘bad’. They simply just ‘Are’. It is the will of those harnessing and tapping into these primal elements that determine through will if they are used for ‘good’ or ‘evil.’ But be warned, it is a subjective concept one must not dwell on too long else one became paranoid or utterly mad.
xxx It is the will of the person and their intent that determines whether a thing is good or evil.
Sanity also holds some merit to Light and Shadow. The more one delves into the depths of this duality, the likely hood of one losing ones mind increases exponentially. One mustn’t abuse the power that these separate Particles hold.

xxx
However, Master Daft went mad when writing everything down. Many have tried to continue his research into this fundamental realm of Light and Shadow, and they too have gone utterly mad. One must not think too hard about this and instead just do what the gut says. After all...The elements speak to Alchemists, we just need to listen and obey the will.
