OMG!!! You guys! You have to vote! Nickelodeon’s “Invader Zim” ran for a mere 2 seasons between 2001 and 2006 with a total of forty-six episodes, yet continues to have one of the strongest fanbases that refuses to see its favorite show end before its time. Over the last ten years, the show easily gained a cult following, finding all episodes released on DVD, getting tons of products, and inspiring Nickelodeon to air the never-before-seen pilot episode just last month on Nicktoons.
And with the second “Invader Zim” convention InvadercCON II: Doomcon coming to Los Angeles in July (and featuring a rare appearance from show creator Jhonen Vasquez), the hope to bring the show back into production has not faded.
Some devoted fans have made strong impressions on Nickelodeon and the crew of the show with their efforts. One notable group “Operation Head Pigeons” is helping with “Project Massive,” a plan to have thousands of fans send messages to Nickelodeon all at once to overwhelm them and prove the show has a large enough support base to get it back on its feet. OHP was inspired by a blog post by Vasquez detailing the show’s near return in 2010, will be a part of InvaderCON II: Doomcon, and has been recognized by Nickelodeon’s official Twitter account.
And with the fact that at least sixteen episodes were abandoned when the show was canceled, two groups called “Soapy Waffles” and “IZFAS” have made it their goal to take sound files and storyboards from the unproduced episodes and animate them themselves! Check out some of their videos below.
