Story found here. Yes, yes I know, I have several, several, several other stories to work on. My hard drive just kicked the bucket. I lost EVERYTHING crying Anyhoo, since I idiotically didn't keep any notes outside the computer, I started a new project. Because my muse said "HERE!" Alright, that being said, I will be returning to my other stuff. Eventually. Notes On Chapter One: A bit Gaara/Mira heavy. Sorry about that, it won't be quite as bad in later chapters as I introduce more people into the setting. Besides, I like Gaa/Mi xp And for more clarification on the bet Kurama lost we go back a few centuries to see a drunk kitsune and tanuki playing a card game. Kitsune has what he thinks is a good hand, but alas has nothing to bet. Tanuki: Didn't you just steal that pretty princess? Kitsune: I can't bet her! Too much work to get her. Uh... I know! I bet that I'll have a pretty granddaughter that looks like her. Want that? Tanuki: O_o How much sake did you have? Kitsune: Ah c'mon, what are you afraid of? Tanuki: Fine, I'll bite. Show the cards. Kitsune: Four Kings! Beat that! Tanuki: *lays out four aces* Kitsune: O_O Tanuki: Bring her by when she turns five. She's going to have to go through a lot of training with you as her grandfather. I want my future wife a little less stupid.

That's fine. And for the record, here is the closest I can get on tektek to the new character's look.  EDIT: It was really bothering me, so I took some more time and redid it. xd MUCH closer to what he looks like. Just uh... a lot younger looking. And considering how young the Gaia avies look already, that's saying something. Ears are still off though o_o *takes them off* And the funny thing is, he's actually pretty old. I'll get into that one later though. And here is kitsune Mira: Others to be done as I have time. 3nodding

There are probably going to be a few more ghosts here. I've got some plans here see... xp
It's not going to quite be on par with the normal storyline either. The order of encounters Naruto has is going to be the same, but the consequences are going to be vastly different, along with most of the outcomes.
A good example of this will be seen at the beginning of the next chapter with the characters that star in that section.
For instance, the Society is not part of any of the AU hidden villages, which here are simply the capitols of their respected countries, and I hinted at this a little already, but it's not accessible by normal means (i.e. You can't just walk in there).
EDIT: The order of encounters coincide with pre-Shippuden. Obviously I'm going for something a little different here. sweatdrop
There is going to be a masked man and something like the Akatsuki, but their goals are not going to be what is in the original manga.
Also, the Nine coming together isn't necessarily going to form the Juubi, but there is something else that is supposed to happen then.

Chapter Notes:
A little more explanation on the similarities and differences are in here, though I won't come right out and say everything on the subject.
For clarification, the house on the snowy plains is not part of the mortal realm, though there is a portway to a village there.
Obviously I'm using the loose term of "fairies" as in anything not of this realm or mortal. There are going to be allusions to all sorts of mythology in this one folks.
Yes, he's alive. And yes, Gaara thinks that he killed him. Note that I mention the "kitsune that dropped off that child" as well. Mira doesn't know that her brother is alive either.
The Harbinger doesn't sound as cool as I wanted...

I wish we had instant transportation, it would make traveling so much easier.
Aren't kitsune supposed to be tricksters and shape shifters? I read once how they were supposed to turn into beautiful woman and seduce people for some reason (I can't remember now).
I didn't know Mira had a brother. surprised

The insta-transportation isn't really completely instant. There are gates set up and a bit of magic involved, but there is one place (that I'm completely stealing from Mercedes Lackey) known as Grand Central Station that can get you anywhere.
And I mean anywhere...
Yup, that's exactly what they do. Obviously Mira doesn't shapeshift all that much, but if we go into how the kyubbi kidnapped the princess that was her grandmother, we see a very classic kitsune prank.
We will however see her go all fox at some point soon.
(Really, this is a little inspired by the one-shot that Naruto came from)
In this AU she does, and there is one or two more that she does, but it's never mentioned, because usually he dies either in that fire that orphans her or before she's born.
Normal quasi-canon timeline she doesn't.

Oh, I think I remembered that one shot, the story actually changed a lot compared to it. I hadn't read it in years.
Ooh, be cool to see her turn into a fox. I have a chibi book that had a fox girl wearing a kimono and she had orangish red hair. Kind of funny.
Ah, I see. Interesting how AU can give you more of a insight or allow you to use ideas that you may not have been able to use otherwise. There was a story I was working on where after Yuko gotten some information about past events, she wondered what life would been like if things played out differently. In that one, she actually had a younger brother (never named him yet but he had black hair like the dad and his mother's green eyes because it looked cool). Yuko was actually an only child, but she found some records years later after her parents death were her mom just found out that she was pregnant, but it was earlier in the pregnancy and she was killed soon after finding out.
The only reason Yuko lived, as no one knew she had an kekkei genkai as she was still too little and not even in training at the time and when she found out, she hid it for quite awhile. Her father was only killed as he was trying to protect his wife Hanako, she was the one with the the Terumi clans kekkei genkai.
The brother and the girl Kasumi were only in that AU.

That's pretty interesting, I would love to see it played out a bit more. Here is the wiki on kitsune, in case you wanted to read up on them. Note the coloring on them, that should give you some insight to their age (hint: Mira's brother is a LOT older than he looks- and uh... so are the tailed beasts for that matter). I'm also taking something from another source, and letting them earn tails for a great deed and such. As for dogs, Mira is scared of most of them because they don't happen to like her, with the exception of Akamaru... and there's a bit of a back story there that has to do with what happened during this AU's "chunnin exams" Mostly because she carried meat with her and gave him some as a puppy. Now that he's a big dog, there's no problem there. 3nodding Also, I'm not using any OC's until I get permission from their respective owners in this one, unlike my usual piggy-backing to keep the fan fiction a little coherent. I do kinda need to post this in the other guild too...

Yeah, I usually don't write stories with others OCs as it is kind of difficult and need permission to do so (that and I don't want to mess it up). I am more likely to draw as it is easier to capture everything that way and express what I want or tell a mini story behind it.
I really don't mind if people use mine, I have profiles and references already, I just need to think some stuff up, but waiting for some info from the series before I can. sweatdrop
Dogs can be scary. eek
Yuko's fear is being alone as everyone keeps dying on her. Probably why she has problems really getting close to people.
