[Combat]

The first thing you should do is familiarize yourself with your character's journal, it has all the battle information you're going to need.

Welcome to the thread! This is a detailed how-to when it comes to the battle system here at Eternal Nights. Its fairly simple, with very little math and easy numbers to keep up with. It is meant to be user friendly, especially with it being on an internet forum, so don't expect any crazy rules or intricate combat devices. Please continue below and our guide will begin.

Note: All battle RPs, either practice or serious, are to be done in this sub-forum!

[Step 1: Initiative]

To determine who goes first - who has initiative - both combatants will need to roll 1d20 in the post actions drop down window. The character with the highest roll gets to go first, and in the case of a tie another roll will need to be made.

For Example: I roll a 12 on my initiative. Its not a bad roll, but unfortunately for me, my opponent rolls a 17. This means they'll get to make the first attack.

[Step 2: Battle Begins]

After determining who gets to go first, that player writes up their combat post - leaving it open ended so the other player can react to it - and rolls their combat dice. Your combat dice are located in the first post of your journal, so nothing too complicated there.

If your attack hits (your journal tells you what is a miss) then the other character takes that much damage. If the defending character has a shield or guards, they'll get to subtract that much from the damage they take. Again, this information is in the character's journal.

Example: My warrior character rolls 1d8 for damage... and gets a 3! Its journal says I add +2 to damage rolled, so that means the enemy takes a total of 5 damage that it subtracts from its HP. Unfortunately for them, they don't have guards or a shield, so they have to take the full amount.

[Step 3: Process]

After the first character makes their attack, it's the second one's turn to do the same. They write the combat post, responding to what written before as well leaving an open attack for the other player to respond to as well. They also roll their battle dice. This process repeats itself in the same order, one at a time.

[Step 4: Winner!]

The first character to lose all of its HP loses the fight. Battle immediately comes to a halt and RP may continue normally after that. The character that still has HP left is considered the winner and has bested the other character in combat.

Both characters then receive a permanent increase to their HP. The winner adds +5 to their total amount, and the loser gets an increase of +2. This is because even though they lost, they can still gain some experience from the fight that they can use to better themselves for next time. When the RP is completed, make sure to add FIN to the title so a staff member knows to update your character's HP in their journal.
