Speak n' Spell Main Thread
Welcome!
This will be the thread to conduct more objective business such as deciding themes or electing someone to take over for a week or so to run the project. Essentially this thread is to get a lot of the main questions or general conversation about the overall arching of this project rather than the specific examples.
The Purpose:
The purpose of this project is to help develop the techniques as well as the skills for how people create, think of, and spend their time dealing with spells. Most of this project is focused on the aspect of writing or creating new spells based on an older spell. However, some of this project will focus on the use of these new adaptions in order to see a variety of things like how well the new version worked for you or how you had to change what you were doing in the spell to make it more practical or usable than what you had original written down, and other items.

Participation and Structure of the Project
Quick Look:
1. Participation is not mandatory in any sense [you do not need to participate, you do not need to participate each week, etc]
2. In order to participate, you should post new spells/readaptions on the current week's thread and theme.
3. In order to ask questions about older weeks material, post in the older threads.
4. In order to participate you will need to post four different adaptions per week.
5. Majority of the time, spells will need to be found in published works.
Participation Explanation at Length
Each week you should be posting at least four new spells that are based upon another spell that you have found in source material. These four new spells can be changed in any manner or form that you want, just as long as it is obvious that you have been at least inspired by the original spell. Note: If you do less than four spells a week, that's fine. However, sometimes I will host a "post your own spells" which will be based on how many weeks that you did post four readaptions for those weeks.
I do not want to see any newer spells being posted in older weeks. If you want a repeat theme, then I can do that or a catch all theme I can do that too. But please wait for the new week, do not post in older threads new spells.
However, I do not mind and (sort of) want people to discuss material posted in older weeks - such as clarifications about the spells, whether or not people found them to be hard to work with, and other things like that which would promote discussion at length. That is one of the purposes for separating each week out because then you can focus on that week and why it was hard or what needed to be clarified.
The theme for the week is solely for the finding of the spell, not the four new spells.
Please do not use a website as a source. I want people to have the ability to pick up a book in a library or a book store and see that original spell that you have chosen there. Furthermore, sometimes authors include more material (like explanations) or their thought processes around their spells in their books, and it might be useful to others.
Please source your material. This may differ between theme weeks [such as a Theme may be associated with a song or a work of art, rather than a formal spell], but there is a form in each week which lists what should be sourced.
A Note About Spells
As a rule, I want no spells which call forth a deity, spirit, or any other supernatural being. I do not wish to have an entire week sabotaged by arguments over the ethics of that spell.
Other than that, any and all spells are allowed.
I personally consider almost anything a spell, so I am not going to allow discussion in my project over whether or not someone's spell is a real spell.
Schedule
Mondays
_______________Try to post your spell based on last week's theme [notice the original spell]
Wednesday
_______________Try to post all four of your interpretations and begin discussing.
Fridays
_______________Theme announcements (so no conflicts with schools/work to find a spell over the weekend).

Question and answer
1) What if I can't buy the book?
That's simple. Don't buy the book. Attempt to write the spell down in a notepad or on a piece of paper with the title, author, and page number or whatever you are using to source. Just please have it coming from a source.
2) Does it have to be a “spell book?”
No. Some of our themes may even be about fiction novels (oh hoho using the force, I see). Some of our themes may be using folklore or myths. You can use any material you would like to source, be it spell book, fiction novel, song, poetry, play, etc – however, if it's a theme week and I say “get a spell from country music ...” then it needs to come from a country music song.
3) What about curses, I don't do them.
Curses are spells, like all spells, they can be changed and modified to be whatever you want them to be. I am personally of the camp that believe that you can not 'help' a situation if you don't know how people will attack you. Learning curses should be part of your deal, and you should be able to recognize when your spell could potentially become a curse. But this is a digression. Yes. There will be curses during this project. Yes there may be themes for specific curses [like death curses]. But remember this isn't mandatory participation. If you are uncomfortable, don't participate.

_________ Try to post them when you can for that week. But allow yourself enough time to research for the next week's theme if you are participating weekly.
_________4.2) What if I can't post on Monday?
_________Similar thing here. Try to post as close to Monday as possible so you have time for the readaptions.
5) What if I want to participate in an older week?
Unfortunately, I want each week to be active at the time that they are brought forth. You can still ask questions about what others have posted (and ask for the theme again in this thread) but please don't post new material on that week.
6) What themes can I expect?
Any you can think of.
7) What if I really hated that theme from last week?
Then say so. That's what this thread is for! biggrin
