  Fifty years may not seem so long in the great scheme of things, but in the Shinigami World, fifty years can seem like an eternity, especially if there's nothing to do.
Five decades have passed since the demise of the great saint the world knew as Yagami Light. It seems as though everything has returned to normal; although the crime rates have increased all over Japan once it was made public that the great Kira was no longer to be feared, it seems as though all traces of oppression within the minds of the Japanese civilians have vanished, and people are able to breathe easy once more, knowing that they allowed to be human without having to fear for their lives. The remaining Death Note that was in the possession of the FBI at the time of Kira's downfall has been destroyed, and it seems like nothing in the world could possibly disturb this natural balance of good intent, bad intent, and those who suffer under both.
In other words, the Death Gods that watch the earth from the Shinigami Realm are bored beyond belief, to a point where they could die from it if they weren't infected with the lifespans of the humans they kill out of cowardice. One particular shinigami, the Shinigami King, to be precise, is more bored than the rest, having to sit upon his throne all day without being allowed to partake in the daily activities of those he governs. It was exactly fifty years after Light that the King decided to take matters into his own skeletal hands. The shinigami were put to work, roaming and exploring and cleaning and laboring and suffering... a change, to say the least, and it was a change that none of them appreciated one bit. So, as a last minute resort, they turned to the humans to seek salvation.
Three shinigami in the possession of three Death Notes have been selected to find three humans who would help them to attain the necessary lifespan needed to overthrown the malicious king. They could, of course, just start sacrificing the humans in masses in order to gain the lifespan they needed, but what fun would that be? Watching the humans play each other out is much more entertaining, and besides, if they started doing that, then the King would immediately suspect them, and would cut off all ties to the human world, effectively eliminating any chance they had of relief.
In this game, the shinigami must sneak in and out of the shinigami realm in order to check on their humans, all the while not being caught, and having to deal with the wrath of the King. The three chosen humans must attempt to find and eliminate each other without the help of their elusive otherworldly companions, in order to achieve the ultimate prize of becoming a near immortal Death Demigod. And the police, headed by one of Near's successors, must all the while try to figure out what on earth is going on, being that all information regarding the mysterious case of Yagami Light had been lost many, many years ago...

No flaming, godmodding (be it information modding or otherwise) killing without permission (now, now...), super long OOC conversations (PM us if there's an issue, and make sure you PM one of us before we PM you...ಠ_ಠ), no cybering, auto-hitting, over the top battle scenes that take up a gazillion pages and make people feel lost... prolonged, unregistered absences, usage of racial epithets or otherwise hurtful language, excessive cursing, or anything that may violate the Gaia ToS. PG-16 is in play here, so please let's keep this appropriate for young, curious eyes. We don't want to scar anyone here, so please, people.
三 Be literate! We're not asking for a novel but I hope I'm making myself clear that I DON'T WANT ANY ONE-LINERS!!!!! Writer's block happens, I get it, but give the others something to work with. There's nothing more irritating than taking the time to do a post and them having someone respond with a single sentence (okay, so maybe there is, but bear with me).
四 Please make pretty posts! They don't have to be gorgeous, but put a color, a picture, a heading... and more, if you want! But no font smaller than 9 and in hard to read colors like this or this... please, it makes Mita-chan's brain hurt @.@
五 Feel free to jump in even after this RP has started! This is an adventure-type RP, so characters can appear and join whichever group they please whenever they want to.

「 α ϲℓoseʀ ℓooκ 」 Here's what you should know... Ari is your stereotypical spoiled rich kid whose parents never cared enough to get to know her. She was born to make the family look good, and that was the only reason. Her older brother (now passed) was famous in the nanotechnology field, and her mother and father were both ruthless business people who, over time, had accumulated a hefty sum of money through crooked deals and faulty investments. Ari was a genius, too, and wuold have followed in her brother's footsteps had she not been cursed with incredible laziness. She hated private school from the moment she started attending... so she stopped attending. Her attendance record proves she only showed up once or twice a month. But her parents didn't really care, seeing as they were too busy trying to keep up their shady career than to deal with their delinquent failure of a daughter. She doesn't quite know what to do with herself now that she has the Death Note, but she figures it would be fun to draw some attention to herself by screwing with the police. So Ari basically does whatever she pleases, and she's still doing whatever she pleases. The end :3
Maybe we'll get along...Ari was always a slacker. She's a genius, but she's lazy. Everything is an effort to her. Waking up is an effort. Making breakfast is an effort. Going to class is an effort. Get the picture? She'd easily score the top spot in her class if she stayed awake more often... or, for that matter, attended more often. She'd much rather splurge her vast fortune on new clothes and accessories than on notebooks and paper. She's spoiled as hell and hates not getting what she wants. The only time when she actually puts her brain to use is when there's something in the way of what she wants. Then, she'll use every ounce of her mental strength to achieve her goal. She's an incredibly sore loser and has the tendency to throw temper tantrums when things don't go her way. But when she's in a good mood, Ari is usually cheerful, peppy, sweet to her friends, and even sweeter to her enemies. ;3
