Kyoto, set in the time period of 1578 A.D., the Sengoku Period was still in its prime. Fighting was everywhere, the capital in chaos. Oda Nobunaga had not yet set foot in Kyoto, at least hasn’t taken control of it just yet. Kyoto was still full of life, seemingly untouched by the war. The city remained the capital city of Japan and was a main revenue street for anyone with a shop. However, with a place in which seemed untouched, there was still internal strife. People were still fighting, just not on the same scale as outside the walls.
Inside were your merchants, peasant, royalty and ronin. Most of the ronin were only ronin because they either ran from battle, did not find a leader suitable to their liking, or they simply were either not killers, but most were there working for the local gangs. The local gangs were funded from the merchants, led by the royalty, reinforced by the ronin and no friend of the peasant. They took what they wanted, when they wanted.
There were three main gangs in Kyoto, the Suto-Mu, the Tora, and the Nyu-Seken. Each one held a third of the Kyoto. However, none of the three held the palace, for that was off limits from all but the leaders.
The Suto-Mu was led by Takya Shomoni, a mean man. A man from a merchant family, money was no inconvenience for the Suto-Mu. However, Shomoni used his ronin until he found no further use for them. Meaning, of course, when he no longer needed their services, he had them killed. The lucky ones that got away, often times than not, did not make it out of the city before the other gangs caught them and killed them.
The Tora was led by a valiant man, one of true royalty. His name was Nobujikata Ashikaga. He was one of the last members of the Ashikaga blood line and was the only one that held true sway in Kyoto. However, he did not have the funds in which the Suto-Mu had, and thus resorted to more of a Mafia mentality. Make the businesses in his district pay him money for protection. If they failed, the Ronin were always ready to send a personal message to all the other businesses.
The Nyu-Seken were nothing but a bunch of ruffians. They had their own methods of gaining money. These men were not kind to anyone, not even their own. They took everything from the people in their district, food, money, and women. Whatever they wanted was theirs. And to make matters worse, the men they employed held no problem with letting blood flow freely on the streets. This group was led by a man who was known as Kayleon Dalaei. He was simple, he wanted to eat, fight, and well, he liked his women. All he cared for was himself, and what others could do for him.
And this, this is where you come in. Pick your side, pick your fight and pick your new beginning.
