Hi. Hope it's okay for me to make new topics even if I haven't been accepted yet. sweatdrop
I need some advice, and didn't see a thread about this already. I'm on Abilify, or supposed to be on it. I stopped taking it three days ago. At first I forgot, then I just didn't care. I don't like the meds and what they do to my head.
Thing is, now I'm really manic. I can control it, and I've always been more on the manic side of bipolar. I don't know anyone else who's bipolar, so I don't know who to ask.
Here's my view on all this: I know I might go crazy off the meds, and from what I read checking through the guild a few minutes ago, I probably will. I think I'd rather be crazy than take meds that mess with my head.
So am I just ******** myself over?

You just have to think about the pro and cons on taking the drug.

Amens You just have to think about the pro and cons on taking the drug. I have. I just don't trust my judgement as much. I've made some bad decisions before, especially when I'm manic.

Then go back on the drug and deside if you want to quit or continue with them when you feel you can think straight.

Keep taking the pills, call the psych, change the meds. Thats what I would do. I take abilify too, and I like it, it really helps me. Maybe they just need to raise the dose.
Fun fact: Abilify was first indicated for schizophrenia, and is relatively new for use with Bipolar. So just talk to the psych, and see what he/she says.

I know what you mean about wishing you could just get off the meds and take your chances. I wish that a lot too.
I'd talk to your doctor before going off meds. You never know if you could have massive side effects from going off. Some meds, such as Zyprexa, can have bad effects if you stop them cold-turkey.
I'm on Abilify right now. I hate the stoned effect from it, but I'm hoping it'll start working soon. I've been off meds, and it can get scary. You should really talk to your doctor about this.

I know you guys are saying call the psych. I'm kind of scared to tell him. He might tell my parents. I'm 18, yes, but I live at home (I haven't even graduated high school yet), and my parents are responsible for my health care still. They might make me start taking them again.
I hate the feeling the meds give me. I can't change the meds again. I've been on meds since I was a little kid, and been on so many different meds that I've forgotten the names of a lot of them. I'm literally running out of medications to take.

I'm taking Abilify and Zyprexa, and trust me, stopping taking them is almost worse than the side effects. And trust me, I hate the side effects of both. As for me, I'd take them. That or, as has been said, talk to your psyciatrist and as him to change it.

I suggest that you call your pysch, I know that it would have to involve your folks, but it would probably be in your best interest. I would also suggest that stay on your meds until you check with your doc. It takes about 6 weeks before you feel the full effects of the meds, so don't stop suddenly. I'm greatful to be on meds that work for me.

This is slightly unrelated but... My mom has skitzophrenia. She takes stelozine and respiradol (sp). When I was 11 she stopped takeing her meds and she went completely NUTZ. (She thought she didn't need them, they made her gain a bit of weight..) She took off into the woods in January (our coldest month).. (January 16th, 2001, if I remember right).. It was twenty below celcius that day. She was just wearing her thin PJs. Here's the worst part, she wasn't only endangering herself but also my unborn brother. (she thought that demons were in the house and my stepdad was the devil and all this other worst possible senario stuff) Anyway I followed her running. (myself sock-footed wearing thin pants and a longsleeve shirt [that was the last day I wore pink actually, heh]) Anyway I managed to define in what direction the rod was and to convince her that god wanted her to go in that direction and we hit the road and were picked up by the police and taken to the hospital. Her feet almost had to be amputated and they almost had to abort my brother. We were over a mile into the woods and... Well... let's just say I'll never forget that day. Thank god I'm reasonably intelligent or I would be dead along with my family. ANYWAY! The point in all this is take your meds for now. You could kill someone or youself or something bad possibly will happen. Sorry if that sounded too harsh, Ash

Amens:
I'm still cycling like crazy. I stopped the meds again for a few days, then the cycles got out of hand. Went back on them two days ago. It didn't seem to help, but then I figured out that I'm PMSing anyway, which amplifies the cycles.
I hope they work.
