It's about a girl named Misaki Ayuzawa (Misa) who at school is the student counsel president and she is very strict hates the boys pretty much but since her family is poor because her dad left her, her little sister, and her mom with a debt, she has a part-time job as a maid where she basically calls boys master and all that. So a cute boy who is really laid back Usui Takumi see's her in her maid outfit and Misa doesn't want him to tell anyone at school. Usui starts visiting the Maid Cafe everyday and Misa and Usui start getting close. It's a romantic comedy. It's so funny!

It's also a parody of shoujo manga. Notice how every single thing is exaggerated. The main male character is perfect in every single way - incredibly athletic, wealthy beyond words, a gift for being at the right place at the right time with a genius mind all wrapped inside of the ideal male body. Yet he goes to a low-class public high school and has a fetish for maids.

The main female character is masculine while being forced to be feminine against her natural traits. She is gorgeous, yet hides it with her bland clothes. She is aspiring, but lacks all resources to gain what she wants. She can do anything beyond normal human abilities, until the critical moments happen and suddenly she is powerless - relying on the male character to protect her.

aren't most shoujo mangas like this? i mean story-wise it would be something like perfect boy meets not so perfect girl and they fall in love. the only difference is that the authors tend to put something interesting in between that could make or break the series.

Yep. Like I said, Maid-Sama is a parody of shoujo manga. Parody means that it teases or makes fun of tropes within a particular subject by exaggerating its key features.
