"Bye, honey! We'll see you at the end of summer!" Saxon's parents called. "Be nice to Aunt Sally, alright? Love you!"
[Saxon merely narrowed here eyes and gave a small smile, raising her arm in parting before the car drove off. She let out a sigh, blowing some of the long brown hair out of her face. It was so like her parents just to drop her off at a random street and expect to find a house belonging to an aunt she had never met before. Luckily, she had at least a vague sense of direction and an address written down on a slip of paper. Staring at the slip of paper for a few moments, she suddenly jumped with movement as she remembered her phone. She quickly pulled it out, only to find the "No service" warning blinking madly.]
"Great," she mumbled frustratingly, throwing the phone in her backpack.
[That meant for the entire summer, she would be without her phone. It wasn't like she had people to talk to. The thing was just useful. She could check her email, college apps, various websites and information apps. And now, she was stuck in horse country without a clue where she was. Not even the GPS worked. She had to go on a wild goose chase that would surely lead her nowhere, in dirt that would ruin her favorite leather boots.]
I don't understand the point of sending me here... she thought fretfully, adjusting the pack on her back and taking the first steps forward. There's nothing, no one out here for miles. For the love of God, I am going to get eaten alive. If I don't burn to death in the hot sun first...fresh air my foot. I was doing just fine where I was...Christ, if you wanted me to make friends, don't send me to a place completely devoid of people...especially to some aunt who for all I know is a serial killer or something...
[But all the young girl could do was trudge onto some beaten dirt road, silently hoping this was the right direction.] ▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄ XXXXXXXProtest me...you will disappear... XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Charlie Young
The morning sun was slowly rising in the sky, the day still young, as Charlie led a young Quarter Horse colt into the large wooden barn. The colt pulled lightly as the lead but still followed after Charlie, nickering at the passing horses. The bay colt was soon placed in one of the empty stalls and examined its new surroundings. Charlie leaned against the stall door, watching the young horse. For the past few years, he had been working at the ranch and it had soon become his second home. His parents had been close friends with the owners and had been able to get Charlie a summer job a few years ago. Ever since then, he had been at the ranch, helping fix things up or train the horses. The teenager smiled to himself before turning away from the colt and walking out of the barn. He adjusted his cowboy hat on his head and let out a sigh.
"Charlie!" a voice called and Charlie turned to see Mrs. Wolf motioning for him to come over. Charlie stuck his hands in his pockets and headed over to the woman.
"Yes Ma'am?" he said, giving the woman, who was also his boss, a tip of his hat.
"Today, my niece, Saxon, is being dropped off by her parents. Now I don't want her to get lost so could you do me a favor and pick her up for me?" the woman asked and Charlie nodded, even though he wasn't all that thrilled with this task.
"Yes Ma'am," he replied before heading toward the ranch house to grab his keys.
He pushed open the door to the house and glanced into the living room, spotting the Wolf's two children watching TV. Charlie didn't stop to greet them, seeing as they were involved in whatever was on TV, and headed up the stairs. Ever since he had started to work at the ranch more often, Mrs. Wolf had provided him with a bedroom in the house's attic. It was small but it was a nice room and Charlie was grateful for it. He climbed up the last flight of stairs and entered his room. Pictures of the ranch's horses decorated the walls while is desk sat in one corner with his bed in another. He headed straight over to his desk and grabbed his keys from beside his cameras. With that, he turned around and once again headed downstairs and outside.
The boy made his way toward the back of the barn, where he had parked his truck last night after picking up hay for the horses. He climbed into the old, beat up pick-up truck and put the keys in the ignition and quickly started the truck up. The car had previously been his father's and he had passed it down to Charlie when he had gotten his driver's license. It was old, and probably on the verge of breaking down, but Charlie didn't see the purpose of spending money to buy a new one if this new one still worked fine. He slowly backed down the small dirt driveway and onto the dirt road. He then began to drive down the familiar dirt roads. He had barely been driving a few seconds when he realized that he had absolutely no idea where this girl was being dropped off. Well, she shouldn't be that hard to find, especially in a small town like this.
He continued down the quiet road, keeping his eyes open for any forms of life or another car. The countryside was empty around him and he could no longer see the ranch in his rearview mirror. Hopefully he'd come across the girl eventually and hopefully she hadn't gotten herself lost. In the distance, Charlie spotted a figure walking down the road. He drove closer, slowing down as he neared the figure. As he drove closer, he could tell that the figure was a girl, maybe this was Saxon. Charlie pulled to a stop beside her and rolled down the window.
"Hello, are you Saxon Wolf? My name's Charlie Young. Your aunt, Mrs. Wolf, sent me to pick you up. I work at her ranch," he greeted, smiling slightly at the girl.

[Saxon continued to walk silently along with a frustrated look across her face. She let out another sigh, looking up at the dirt road she was walking on when she picked up the all too familiar sound of a car. But this one sounded deep and rackety. Then she remembered where she was, and scowled dejectedly.]
[Sure enough, a beat up truck was coming towards her. She kept walking, knowing all to well the cautions she learned from walking in the city. Pay attention, but don't look the driver in the eye. When she saw the truck pull to a stop, she panicked a little inside. It was happening just like the self-defense class lady had said. But she followed protocol and kept walking, if not at a faster pace.]
Keep walking...keep walking... she thought. If you lay one hand on me, I have mace.
[She had walked completely past the truck when she heard her name being called. She froze on the spot, but turned around slowly with an incredulous look on her face. What she saw surprised her a little. It was a boy of about her age sitting in the driver's seat.]
Huh...it's not some old farmer... she thought with interest.
She took one step forward as she said roughly, but cautiously, "A random guy pulls up in an old truck, and I'm supposed to trust you?" ▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄ XXXXXXXProtest me...you will disappear... XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
