Atheism is not a religion! It is just the rejection of a belief in a god or in many gods. We disprove the existence of deities, there is nothing to promote or profess. Therefore, Atheism can't have a church. What would you do in an atheist church? Just talk about how much we don't believe in deities? Share a laugh, eat cookies, and drink coffee? What brings atheists together isn't faith, is the shared knowledge that there are no deities.

This this is what? This is what I was going to say. It's great to hang out with those who share your beliefs, but a religious building for a group whose definition is a lack of religion seems a bit...odd. Let's just have an atheist's social or something, I'd love to go to that.

Uuummm...not only is Atheism not a religion, but it's also not something to be worshiped. I don't like the idea of a church and it would probably be pretty bad. I may not speak for most the Atheists here but I'm pretty sure a lot of us don't like the idea of an organized religion which is pretty much what would happen.
Not only THAT, but what would be the point? Atheism in itself has no teachings really. It's too general. You can't really preach about Atheism in a churchly manner.

In the video description that she changed after she got so many negative comments calling her stupid, it sounds more like she was kidding.
After all, making a church just to make Atheists money? Bleh.

I think the only reason one would create a church of this kind (in the U.S.) is to receive the tax exempt right, to show religious groups that they are not the only ones with the right to such things.
I personally think, if this was the true reason, it would be better to simply petition that churches be taxed the same as a normal business, as it is just that, and not to change the core practices of Atheism. There is NO need to become like those we fully disagree with. If you need a sense of community, find a group of like minded individuals and set up a coffee house, or in home brunch, weekly meeting.

I agree with Attention. And if a church was made as a kinda in-your-face joke, I'd rather it be an official Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or Church of Nothing. Though a fairer tax system (not only for religions, but also for the government and very rich people) would be more ideal.
