I know this is a tad early, but I love giving gifts to people. For that reason, I love Christmas time. It's an excuse to make people happy by giving them something they've wanted for quite a while.
So, what do you plan on giving to your anime geek friends / family?
Personally, I only have one friend that likes anime. Even then, this is more of a joke gift if anything else. In my nerd club (nickname for my group of friends) we do D&D on Tuesday nights. Whenever someone does something silly, like jump on a building in the story and begin monologuing, then he starts humming the Sailor Moon opening song. It gave me the idea to get him the sound track to Sailor Moon, even though I'm not sure if he even likes the series.

I'm buying my boyfriend an official poster of some of the females from To Aru Majutsu no Index in sexy maid outfits. And I'm also replacing a Touhou figure of his that I accidentally broke. D; Also throwing around the idea of maybe buying (preordering?) that Touma (Index again) figma for him, too.
None of my other friends really like anime enough to warrant me buying them specifically anime presents, I'm afraid. xD;;;

I guess I could give some anime-themed gifts to my friends down at UD, they're as big of geeks as you could wish for.
Until a few months ago, I didn't have any friends (or family) who loved anime as much as I did.

To my friend across the street I'd give her Naruto cards because she started collecting them after me.
To the friend I had recently introduced to anime, I might send her a link to my favorite site that I watch anime off of. and show her the animes I like (Bleach).
To my friend who draws with references, I might just go to a store called Hastings (I don't know if it's anywhere else out in the U.S.) and by her something anime. Maybe a plushie, action figure, game, anime dvd, or manga.
To my friend who's trying to get me to watch Angel Beats, I'll probably make him an AMV once I'm done with it smile
I know this may partially be off topic, but does anyone know where I can find good cosplay costumes? Somewhere better than Ebay and Amazon, or are those my only choices?

Heh, you should post your AMV on the forums so we can see it when you're done =) Mmm you might go to www.cosplay.com, they're a kraig's list type place where people see their homemade cosplay outfits. You can get a nice cosplay outfit for significantly cheaper than retail price. Only problem is that you need to pay attention to measurements, because they're usually made for a certain size of person.

I've been recently seriously checking out Hello Cosplay for especially cosplay shoes. I haven't really heard anything about them from anyone-- good or bad. So if you're interested in their merchandise, I would ask around the internet a little before buying.
Also, the /cgl/ board on 4chan and the Cosplay subforum here on Gaia can be pretty helpful if you have specific questions. ;3

Since most of my close friends are OD anime fnas, I decided I would just splurge all my life savings before college and get them some super awesome stuff.
- For my best friend Emily who's a total Death Note fanatic, and who's 17th birthday happens to be in four days, I got something that actually wasn't that expensive. I got one of my best friends (whom she has the hots for) to dress up as L (as a personal favor to me), and to go over to her house and just sit in her livingroom eating Christmas cake and staring at the television. Afterwards, I got all the cosplayers I know to dress up as masquerade people, and I took her to my friend's dance studio (which we had spent HOURS decorating to look like a ballroom), where we had a masquerade ball. The most expensive part of the whole thing was just the dress I got her, but my other best friend Izzy and I split the cost, so in the end I just had to pay $90 for the whole affair ^,^ Yay for cheap people!!!
- For Izzy (the one who helped me pay for Emily's dress), Emily and I got her (and us) all-inclusive passes to this Soul Eater convention in some town in Canada. It's in April, and she wanted to go last year except her parents were being dickheads and didn't let her go :/
- For the rest of my friends I just got them DVDs and games and plushies, although the most memorable thing that happened was today when I gave my neighbor a Vocaloid CD and she kissed me mrgreen I think it was an accident, though... xP

I don't know what that means, and it's KILLING me!!!!!!! gonk

Her parents weren't being **** by not letting her go, they were being sensible. Hardly any people would let their kid go off without them to some town in another country.
It took my parents a while just to let me go to Columbus with some friends without them, and that's only a few hours away. (Not to mention I'm over 20 years old.)
Your neighbor kissed you? Ewww...
The gift you gave your friend was really neat, I bet she loved it.

Well, I mean, me and Izzy and Emily all live in NYC, and we've been on road trips by ourselves loads of times, so it actually surprised me that they didn't let her go since the four of us have driven all the way down to Florida before (I mean, I had to get my sister to drive since I didn't have a liscense, but... still xP) And yeah, I mean... the kiss was kind of random and it took me by surprise but I didn't really care since she's straight as a rod and it was probably an accident lmao...
... and yeah. Emily started crying. xP

Still...-grumbles- Her parents probably had good reasons for not letting their daughter go.
I sure hope it was an accident! Maybe she was just so happy that she wasn't thinking properly.
Haha, awww. xd

If you consider having to babysit her little brothers a good reason, then sure, their reason was excellent! (Please note the sarcasm) But whatever, point benig they're letting her go this time, so yay...!
Haha, I'm sure it was. We've been pretty close for a while so I guess she just overreacted a little when she got the CD 4laugh but it's all good, since neither of us really minded and it wasn't meant to be sexual in any way.
And yeah, it was cute yum_puddi

The sarcasm is tangible. xD -pulls out a knife to cut it-
I'm surprised you can just shrug it off like this, I'd be avoiding the neighbor for weeks.
