I don't know about you but I tend to work at my best when there is some sort of background noise. Whether that is a film or music... mostly music since I don't tend to watch a lot of tv.

I'm curious if this is the same for you other crafters? Do you have a playlist that you have set up to craft to? Do certain musical genre's help you do certain crafts better or worse? Does it really just depend on your mood??

I did try to make a playlist expressly for crafting... unfortunately my moods and what I am doing, craft-wise, tend to overthrow my efforts at organizations (just look at my studio; it's a disaster!)

Anyhoo, I tend to listen to all different genres of music (some more than most) and a lot of the time, my mood dictates the genre. or, if I am feeling particularly neutral I will make a play list of such randomized b.s. that anyone listening would think I'm schizophrenic.

Tonight, when I sit down on my bed and work on my never-ending blanket, I will be humming along with 80's/New Wave hits like the following:
Kate Bush - Running Up that Hill: remix unknown(This is a link to YT)

I listen to NPR a lot because I'm a nerd and because I try not to have the TV on with the littles around. Other favorites include Last.fm stations of my favorite artists and just hitting shuffle in iTunes.

I just got some speakers and I'm saving up for a decent receiver, so I'm excited. My options for listening to music right now are my car, the laptop, or the tv, all of which have crappy speakers. sweatdrop

Yeah, I LOVE NPR! I always get a giggle at the effects and dramatic music they play in the background of their segments. They also have AWESOME and interesting shows. I like it when they sort of "theme" the day by having back to back segments that are somewhat related. It's like going on a tangent and seeing where you come out on the other end. biggrin

*high five* They really do have some awesome transitional music. It always cracks me up when the interlude to some serious topic is 50 Cent or Eminem or something equally trashy. I've learned more from NPR in the past couple of years than I think I did in most of high school.

But what is really cool is that the way the information is presented. If my classes had been lecture interspersed with music, witty commentary and guest speakers, I think it would have "stuck" better. razz

The witty commentary is my favorite. That's where my signatures generally come from, with Bill Maher as a close second choice. I agree also that I would have retained more information had it been presented in a more digestible manner.

I always feel a little guilty about not being able to donate. Someday when we have spare funds, perhaps. Hahaha.

Haha, that is what I say about ALL of the things I enjoy. I am hoping that once I get done with my degrees I can find stable work and set aside a regular stipend to divvy up between my favorite charities. razz

"some day...." wink

Today's playlist consists of:

The latest Gorillaz album, Plastic Beach (minus a couple annoying tracks) and some random Daft Punk.

Was looking for a way to stay upbeat enough to get motivated but not too involved since I had a bunch of other stuff to do to break up my day (hooray for cleaning and studying!)

/sarcasm wink
