This thread shall serve a temporary chatting haven throughout the month of November so as to avoid drawing unnecessary attention to the shop thread while I'm busy working on my story for this year's NaNoWriMo. This is also where I will be posting samples of my writing from time to time for those who are interested in seeing it. So, go ahead and make yourselves at home. Go ahead and explore the rest of the guild if you like. Otherwise, let's just keep all the crazy, zany, intellectual, and philosophical discussion coming!

What a sly and sneaky way to remind us about the guild. Nice work, Crystal. And I'll definitely be looking forward to hearing how your novel goes.

Well, I know in previous years Cat and I would have had a thread running in The State of Insanity, but it really wouldn't be the same without her so I feel like this is a little more comfortable for this year.

Yeah, that's a good point. I still hope she joins us again, it's just not the same without her. But even if it isn't the same, that doesn't mean we can't enjoy ourselves, so I'm going to stop saying such things now.

Anyway, what's been going on, Crystal?

Well, I watched The Raven and now I've switched over to The Shining to continue my marathon of season appropriate movies. Otherwise, I've mostly just been doing a bunch of crazy role-playing with Jared.

What about you? How was the trick-or-treating turnout?
PostPosted: Mon Oct 31, 2011 7:39 pm

The Raven, as in Edgar Allen Poe? Very nice. And The Shining was a great movie, even if it did seem a bit less cohesive than the book.

The turnout was pretty good, but it all came and went in about an hour. We don't usually get that many kids in such a short time.

The very same. I need to ask my mom to pick up the compendium of Edgar Allen Poe stories that we bought for the lake house so I can actually flip through it at some point because I'm sure there's a great deal in there that I've never actually read before.

Kids can move pretty fast when they're starving for candy. Of course, I haven't had to contend with any of that since I moved from California, but I do remember how dangerous it could be to run out of candy before the feeding frenzy was finished. One year some teenagers decided it would be fun to steal pumpkins from the houses and run them over in the middle of the street. o_o

The Dimensional Shift - The Dragon Tamer
She stopped dead in her tracks as, upon entering the kitchen, she was greeted with the sight of an anthropomorphic panda that had an unruly mop of thick brown hair on top of his head that might have, at one time, been an afro. The panda was dressed in a pair of heavy, arctic camouflage pants and what appeared to be a bacon weave vest made from real fresh, delicious smelling bacon. There were several of slices of bread on a plate on the counter and the panda was now rifling through the refrigerator for some deli meats so he could help himself to a sandwich.

“Blaze,” the girl started in a confused mixture of surprise and exasperation at the behavior of the freeloading panda. “What are you doing here? And why the hell are you a panda!”

Blaze looked up at her quite innocently with a package of sliced turkey in one hand and some roast beef in the other. “Oh, Crystal, hi, you’re just in time. I’m making sandwiches!” he answered completely unhelpfully.

“I can see that,” Crystal waved to the stack of bread slices resting on the plate on the counter. “But it still doesn’t explain what the heck you’re doing here.”

“Oh look, I found some ham!” Blaze declared, not at all paying her any attention.

Crystal sighed. She had a feeling she wouldn’t be getting a straight answer out of him until his brain could start taking precedence over his stomach.

And so it begins...~

Ooh, that ought to give you some fun reading. He has some great stories.

Yeah, they can. Or when they've just had candy, for that matter. Those teenagers sound like quite a handful. Your brother's crowd?

Not even waiting before making things start to go crazy, eh? Keep it up. ^__^

I know, and I'd really like to check out the ones I haven't read before. But, for now, I've got the sixth Haruhi Suzumiya book to keep me busy in the reading department, at least until I manage to finish reading it.

So far as I know, it wasn't anyone me or my brother knew who was running over the pumpkins in the road. We customarily went trick-or-treating elsewhere because there were other, better neighborhoods for getting lots of candy.

I've decided that this time around I'm going to stick to what I'm good at. I've got a basic plot that needs to be resolved, but pretty much anything can happen along the way to resolving it precisely because the circumstances are so ridiculous. Damn panda.

I've yet to get around to either reading or watching any of the Haruhi Suzumiya stuff, but they must be fascinating by how many people seem to love it.

You should give him a good talking-to. That was pretty rude of him to show up in your novel with hardly a how-do-you-do.

Oh, the whole Haruhi-verse is wonderfully entertaining. You never know what sort of zany mishaps will follow from the seemingly mundane activities Haruhi orders the SOS Brigade to participate in. Things never go normally for any of them.

The Dimensional Shift - The Dragon Tamer
It didn't take long for the hostile environment that Crystal had spoken of to fully manifest itself. As she and Blaze continued to travel further out into the desert, a saber tooth tiger suddenly appeared in front of them. Of course, like the other animals that Crystal had encountered earlier when she had been climbing the mountain landscape in pursuit of the Hydra, this prehistoric feline with its elongated fangs wasn't completely normal. It appeared as if the saber tooth tiger had been fitted with metal jaws and the long fangs had a spiral shape so that they looked like a couple of downward facing drills. As Crystal and Blaze continued to watch the beast, that was roughly the length of a school bus, it showed no interest in the girl and seemed to have locked its eyes onto the panda wearing the bacon weave vest.

Then the tiger pounced. It was all Blaze could do just to bash the humongous tiger's face with the frying pan he had been using to shield himself from the sun. The beast quickly drew back its head before chomping down on the frying pan, piercing through the solid metal with its twin fangs. Blaze immediately yelped, letting go of his frying pan, and took off running from the saber tooth tiger. The tiger spit out the frying pan and chased after him, completely ignoring the girl who had accompanied him thus far.

"I think," Crystal observed, "it wants your bacon."

Blaze finally got what was coming to him.
