Well Halloween is fast approaching and I was kind of curious what your favorite movies were that befit this holiday. They could be science fiction or classic horror or slasher flicks, anything!

Most of my closest friends know that I hate gore in movies. To me, too many movies sacrifice a good story for blood and guts. The best "horror" movies are the old classic Universal pictures from the 30's thru the 50's.

So here is my top 10;

1) King Kong (1933)
2) The Thing From Another World
3) Creature From the Black Lagoon
4) Dracula
5) Frankenstein
6) Bride of Frankenstein
7) The Wolfman
cool The Mummy
9) The Invisible Man
10) Godzilla

But if I had to go a bit more modern, I'd include these movies;

1) Alien
2) Aliens
3) Terminator
4) Halloween (the original)
5) Predators
6) Aliens vs Predator
7) Halloween II (original)
cool Predator
9) Nightmare Before Christmas
10) The Village

So how about y'all?

With njo attention to priority.

1. Night of the Living Dead.
2. An American Werewolf in London.
3. Fight Night.
4. Return of the Living Dead.
5. Friday the 13th. Really, any will do, but I do like the Kane Hodder ones best.
6. The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
7. The Exorcist.
8. Evil Dead 2
9. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (the Disney one)
10. A Nightmare on Elm Street.

In no particular order...

Nightmare Before Christmas
28 Days Later
It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
30 Days of Night
Aliens
Resident Evil
Shaun of the Dead
Halloween
Tales from the Crypt ( both the movie and the TV series)
Friday the 13th (the first one)

In an effort not to include too many sequels or remakes, and trying to keep to one film per director (Sorry Alfred), these are just the first ten that popped into my head:

Alien
The Birds
Ginger Snaps
The Exorcist
Night of the Living Dead
John Carpenter's The Thing
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?
Rosemary's Baby
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Psycho (who am I kidding? Alfie always gets at least two spots)

I was hard pressed to put anything modern on the list since most modern horror/thriller films aren't "scary" so much as "startling" and "gross." Aliens didn't make the cut because it's at heart a suspenseful action movie, whereas the original was a ******** thriller. Several David Cronenberg films almost made the cut but I couldn't peek through my fingers long enough to type the titles.

I'm taking out American Werewolf and sticking in Lost Boys. There are really just too many good movies that could be on this list. Oh, I wish to give The Walking Dead an honorary mention for TV series. It's awesome.

There's not a lot of good vampire movies out there. I'm not really a fan of Lost Boys except for the tone and style. Let the Right One In was great, and Interview with a Vampire, but it's a short list. It's even shorter for werewolves.

If you haven't yet, check out Dog Soldiers for werewolves. Good flick.

I will add that to my list! I am always looking for good horror movies, and I have faith that somewhere out there are a few good werewolf and vampire movies waiting to be discovered.

*adds*

I was so disapointed in Blood & Chocolate. How could they turn such a great book that basically the perfect script for a werewolf movie into such dreck....

Hollywood loves to tinker. They always know better than the author and the source material. Sometimes it actually works. I loved the movie Patriot Game so much more than the book.

I agree with Dog Soldiers, it's a good werewolf movie.

I liked Lost Boys mostly for sentimental value, it was my first childhood horror flick. I could honestly watch all of the movies mentioned in one long marathon quite happily.

The Birds is one of my most scariest movies just because I get freaked out by birds, especially sea gulls so this movie was the one I can't watch alone.

Daybreakers is a good modern vampire movie and one that's done right. I really recommend that. Not really scary though.

For fun I would say Vampire Girl V's Frankenstein girl... it's just on something. It's Japanese, that's all you need to know.

I liked Daybreakers except towards the end. It lost me there somewhere towards the end. I'm not sure how...

I must say that I did love the first Underworld movie. And not just because Kate Beckinsale hotness. But it didn't hurt. ninja

Anyone who's read the book knows that Blood & Chocolate is thinly veiled pron for girls. Take Olivier Martinez and make him topless most of the movie. It's sex! You'd thnk Hollywood would love that but nooo.
It's all "self-hating wolf-girls and their loser a*****e normie crushes that make them kill their whole family."

I'm going to recommend a couple more classic horror/thriller films

The Stunt Man - It tells the story of a young fugitive who hides as a stunt double on the set of an anti-war movie whose charismatic director will do seemingly anything for the sake of his art. The lead is Peter O'Toole!

Les Diaboliques - a woman and her husband's mistress who conspire to murder the man; after the crime is committed, however, his body disappears, and a number of strange occurrences ensue.

The Stepford Wives - the original 1975 film, which is so atmospheric and builds the creeping sense of dead very nicely.

In fact, I recommend everyone go read the book. And everything else Ira Levin ever wrote, the man is a genius of the genre.
