The year is 2164, several situations have begun to arise. One is that Earth is running out of Natural Resources, including fresh water, fertile soil, edible fruits, animals and vegetables. The Sun is ready to go out, and when it does, it's taking Earth with it.
So the only Government that existed on Earth, that has managed to unite all nations, countries, and continents using tyranny, blackmail, and extortion, has issued that a new world must be found.
Five years later a probe sent back a message saying it had found a planet suitable for life. Instantly the Government sprang into action, people began to colonize this new planet, so far, no life has been found, but 'shadows' have been seen several times, these Shadows don't seem to be connected to anyone or anything.
Well, several years later, the colony falls under attack by an invisible race, accurately named: The Shadows, for all they are, are shadows, who can affect the physical plane and kill. The colonists were completely taken off guard by this race and quickly lost many colonies on the planet, which was named Terra Firma.
The planet itself was mainly a massive ocean with two continents. One took up 35% of the planet while the second took up 10%.
Most of the largest of the two continents was mainly desert with a line of forest about 10 kilometers of length that edged the sides of the continent. While in the center was nothing but mountains and desert. This continent was named Terra Sauram.
The second continent is mainly mountains and volcanoes. It hasn't been explored by the colonists and has remained unmapped. Satellites cannot pierce the massive black clouds of soot that the largest volcano ever recorded is constantly spewing out. The colonists have named this continent Terra Noram, and is believed to be where 'The Shadows' main homeland could be.
Our story starts at one of the colonies that was attacked. The name was Chaon, and it was one of the first to be attacked.
It happened on the third day that the colony was finished being constructed. Everything was going well, that was until the sun began to set, a scream was heard as an entire family was murdered seemingly out of nowhere. The husband and wife were so ripped apart, they were presumed dead, one thing stuck out however... They had a young boy, who couldn't be found anywhere in the house... A few minutes later the doctors and officers who were examining the bodies were murdered as well, just like the husband and wife, the officers and doctors were so cut up, it was a miracle they had a corpse left. Soon everyone began to get murdered the same way, and after five hours the entire colony was nothing but blood and corpses, not a person had survived the massacre, and the killers never left a sign, other then the dead bodies.
When the bodies were recovered and checked off from a 'Manifest' or a list with every person in that colony, several bodies weren't found, but their names were on the list. They were of people who ranged from age 10 to 18. These people were not seen two days before the massacre and a search was sent out to find the missing people.
But they could not be found...
What really happened to these missing colonists? They were kidnapped by another race that had lived on the planet just like the Shadows, they were able to transform and therefore took on the appearance of Humans to get to know these 'aliens' or the Humans better. They were also there to protect the Humans from the Shadows the best they could. They could not fight, nor knew how to, but they knew how to hide. Which was their greatest ability.
The kidnapped colonists were brought to this race's main base, which was hidden deep in the mountains of Terra Firma. No one knows where they could be hidden, and the kidnapped colonists? With their memories wiped, they have no knowledge of a world outside the facility, no memories of friends or family. The only thing they know, is to obey 'The Voice' which is basically an intercom hidden somewhere in the examination room, and that there are ten people, living together in this facility.
