Hi there you Crafty Craftersons!

I was pondering an idea that a friend of mine had planted in my brain some time ago (before I revamped/reopened this guild) and I was looking into getting some feedback from you guys, the members of this rather simple Gaia Guild.

I was looking at a Jo-Ann advertisement stating that members of official guilds qualify for a VIP discount of 10% off of purchases. This sounded pretty cool so I decided to look into what they considered an "official" guild.

According to Jo-Ann's website, The guild would have to enroll with Jo-ann. Once enrolled, members would have to initiate their discount cards by presenting the store manager with proof of membership and a legal ID. This seems pretty simple, right? After all, we crafters can use all of the discounts we can get!

I figure that, initially this could be something very simple. Set up a site outside of Gaia, forums, membership info, mission statement, etc.
But in the long run, with a decent supporting staff, perhaps we can provide a small zine and local chapters for craft meet ups?

Suggestions are always cool and I am curious as to whether or not something like this would be interesting to you Gaians. Also, what about irl membership fees? I hate fees and, if I restrict this to online zine and guild then that would take care of that issue.

I just found this post. I would be down for an "official" guild. I don't have any ideas on how to make it grow at this point, but I'm more than willing to be a participant.

Also, if you need web hosting for a website, forums, or whatever I have plenty of spare space. 3nodding

Thanks Mikan! I actually do have webspace available that I... well... have kind of neglected using (which is stupid because I am paying for it!) My goal is either getting some sort of game plan together by the new year, if I do so continue through with it. smile
I believe that my first obstacle would be to get some people to help me out with it. I have a couple of friends that would LOVE to do this but when it comes down for action they end up being MIA. So, that is what I would focus on first.

I'm going through old stuff and realizing I don't see a lot of this stuff posted. *sigh* I think this would be a great idea! I would love to help out any way I can. I think getting together and having crafting sessions and maybe even incorporate craft alongs would be a super fun idea.

Yeah, a lot of times I either know about a reply ONLY if I am quoted. Other than that, at least once/week I peak in and see if any new posts have been done.

Anyhoo, I was talking to Kelli since she works at JoAnn and says all we need to get a guild discount would be to bring in an "official" something, from business card to badge to contract... whatever.
