Long story short, I'm pissed. Livid.

I got a pm, a warning for on-site advertising. Yes from an actual moderator. They even deleted all of my recent posts. All because I had a link and picture in my post format adversiting my entry, which they consider "on-site advertising" and apparently that turned all my replies that were contributing to the conversation // on topic to spam. Though most people have them in their signatures, and yet that is not seen as on-site advertising? Nor the mini shops or services or other things they mentioned in their pm?

It said to check TOS, and R&G to "learn more about appropriate behavior"

Now I've read up and down both of those (along with the Avatar Arena rules and the AA Forum rules), but have not found anything even MENTIONING on-site advertising.

I'm one more read away from posting something about this in Site Feedback, because I think it is complete and utter bullshit. But I'd like to have my facts straight before I go there.

It's a tricky one. I don't think on site advertising is explicitly stated anywhere, but what I've always been told is that you can only use your signature or the chatterbox for vote solicitation.

I'm going to link the tiny bit of rule I found that would support the mod action, but I had to hunt pretty hard for it.

From the Read Me: AvA Subforum - What belongs here! thread.
Quote:
The Avatar Arena subforum is was not created to solicit votes. Thus, all Solicitation threads will be removed from the forum and placed in the chatterbox/recycle bin because they are essentially spam, like advertisements. This includes threads/posts that have links to entries to the Avatar Arena.

Users with regular discussion threads containing vote solicitation should remove it from the thread, or we will move it.

Creating "vote for me" threads outside of the cb is the obvious side of the rule, but I'm guessing were pulled up for having a post style with a vote link? Were you given the option to edit out your links before they deleted the whole content?

An unwritten rule? emotion_awesome

No, the mod just deleted all of them, and gave me a list of every post that no longer exists.

Well that could be interpreted as "only for the avatar arena subforum". Especially since it isn't listed in the obvious places like it should be, and what the mod suggested I take a look at.

I just don't see how this is different from signatures.

All the cool rulez are unwritten. Probably comes under the general TOS bit about not doing anything that Gaia says you shouldn't do. 4.17 Yay for vagueness.

It does seem a little heavy handed of the mod. But I think any kind of link in a post style is frowned upon.

Vague =/= Do whatever the hell you want without a legitimate reason

Oh wait...it's Gaia so I guess it does mean that.

Fantastic.

I can understand a bit... '~'
A while back, at least a year and a half - two years, I got an avatar art and began using it in my post style. At the bottom right corner of the post style, I had "Art made by So-and-so" and the user's name was a link to their shop.
I ended up getting a PM within a week or two telling me to remove the link from my post, as it was on-site advertising.
I'm sorry that the mod who dealt with your case deleted tons of your posts. cry They really should take it a bit easier if it looks like the advertising is a part of a post style. Just a warning PM stating that you should probably edit and remove the link should be fine.

I'm sorry to hear about your run of bad luck. It's kind of silly the way you can advertise in your signature but not your post format. confused I never realized that was the case until I read this thread.
