Tomorrow is my boyfriends birthday. I wanted to make him dinner but my kitchen is out of commission for a while and I would do it at his place but... I'm pretty sure his mother still isn't too fond of me confused

Anyway I'll most likely be postponing it but... I need ideas. Something quick, easy, and filling. Main dish and maybe a dessert?

I normally make bentos for the both of us but I haven't since the kitchen has been off limits and he told me he misses it. Especially since the Board of Health closed our college's cafeteria... for the second semester in a row. gonk

So, I want to try something new. He likes pretty much all types of foods and loves trying new things.

Help please?

Are you able to use an oven/stove? What do you have access to?

I would try making sour-cream chicken enchiladas. Sorry for a random suggestion, but I always think they're quick. I have my own little recipe but I don't think I should get it out since I don't measure anything ever when i make my own food and experiment. xD;

Your best suggestion might be going out to eat for dinner.

What you could do is get some Chinese take-out and pack it into the bento. Just an idea. sweatdrop

Right now, its Get in - Get to the fridge - Get your stuff - Get out.

Those enchiladas sound like an awesome idea though. And I eyeball all of my measurements myself, so I completely understand.

We go out to eat a lot. Maybe though. We haven't been to ... quite a few places in a while. We usually hang around Applebees and Ihop. The waiters and waitresses know us by now.

We have chinese a minimum of once a week. I might do that for next weeks lunch though.

Hmm without your usual kitchen things around this might be tough, but I think the ambiance of the situation you create might be more important than the food in this case! Why not make regular picnic food; you can have shaped sandwiches with cookie cutters (or just shape them with knives) or make pocket sandwiches if you have that pocket, sandwich thingie (which I can't get to work stressed ) some fruit, cheeses and veggies. Maybe some wine if you can, or some nice, upscale bottled soda or something nifty that you both like. Take a walk, pick a spot, play some music and have fun eating, maybe feeding each other blaugh heart Its sweet, simple, and more about quality time than foods.

That's the best I can think of without access to a kitchen!

This is... kinda brilliant actually. And the weather is nice today - if only I'd thought of it earlier. And didn't have plans.

We're planning on going to the movies Friday - I can do this for lunch after he gets out of class.

Only thing now is what to put in it. I do have a pocket sandwich thingy and I adore it. :3 It gives them a heart imprint. <3

So. Sandwiches. Suggestions? Recipe links? Please?

Ahh I'm glad you think so mrgreen I'm sure it will go over well when you make time 3nodding I really like just going rustic European and having a baguette, some cheese (maybe cheddar and provolone? whatever your favorite is), I think apples and grapes are perfect for going with cheese, and I love a little honey too blaugh

For the sandwiches, completely depends on what kind of cold cuts you prefer. If you're looking for something a little more fancy than just a ham n cheese sandwich, here are some links to luncheon and tea sandwiches:

arrow About.com - Tea Sandwiches
arrow Southern Living - Finger Sandwiches
arrow Great Recipes - Tea Sandwiches

There are some great recipes listed at those links, so you can pick one of those or use them to inspire your own creation! Perfect date food heart Let us know what you end up doing!

Also, I'm jealous you can get yours to work! This is the one I have and the sandwiches never stay together gonk Like... it cuts the crust off fine, but I thought the point of it was for it to be like a little sealed pocket! Maybe I need a different kind of bread :[

I have this one. And it works fine for me, even if there's a little filling where I'm pressing. I don't know, I naturally press really hard on the insert after it cuts the crust off and I just use wonderbread or whatever store brought bread is lying around.

Hope you get yours to work <3

This... this isn't gonna happen for a while. emo

Drago [my bf] got robbed on his way home from my house on his birthday stressed

Its been a bad week all around. I did take him to dinner on tuesday though.

Hmm, maybe the picnic could be a joint birthday celebration... By the time I do it, it'll be about time for my birthday. His is 10/10 and mine is 11/10. stare
